Koryu Budo (Traditional Japanese martial art)
Japan
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 มี.ค. 2024
The history of Koryu Budo (古流武道), or traditional Japanese martial arts, spans several centuries, evolving from combat techniques developed on the battlefield to refined practices focusing on self-improvement and spiritual discipline. Koryu Budo encompasses a wide range of martial disciplines, including Kenjutsu (剣術, swordsmanship), Sojutsu (槍術, spear fighting), Kyujutsu (弓術, archery), Iaijutsu (居合術, the art of drawing the sword), Jujutsu (柔術, grappling), Naginatajutsu (薙刀術, halberd fighting), and Bojutsu (棒術, staff fighting), among others.

Koryū budō, or traditional martial arts that originated before the Edo period, encompasses a wide range of classical Japanese martial disciplines such as kenjutsu (swordsmanship), sōjutsu (spear techniques), and jūjutsu (unarmed combat techniques). These arts are deeply rooted in the history of the samurai and are distinguished by their emphasis on both physical technique and spiritual development. While the practical, combat-based utility of these arts has faded in the modern era, their role as vehicles for personal growth, cultural preservation, and mental discipline remains vital. In contemporary Japan, koryū budō continues to influence not only martial artists but also broader aspects of Japanese life, particularly through its focus on spirituality and mental cultivation.
Koryū Budō in the Modern Era
In today’s world, koryū budō serves purposes beyond combat. Modern practitioners often view it as a method for self-discipline, mental fortitude, and cultural education. Many traditional dojos (training halls) maintain strict adherence to classical forms and rituals, which help preserve the original spirit of the martial art. These arts, unlike modern budō (such as judo or kendo), are often taught through "kata" (set forms), which serve as a medium for mastering techniques and achieving inner balance.
The modern practice of koryū budō places significant importance on cultivating personal growth. Through rigorous repetition of kata, students are not only training their bodies but also refining their minds, striving for harmony between their internal and external worlds. The deep commitment to mastering techniques fosters patience, humility, and resilience. Thus, koryū budō is seen as a lifelong path toward self-improvement rather than a means of gaining physical superiority alone.
Spiritual in Koryū Budō
A unique aspect of koryū budō is its strong connection to Japanese spirituality and philosophy, particularly the samurai code known as *bushidō*. Bushidō, which emphasizes loyalty, honor, courage, and respect, has significantly influenced the spiritual dimension of these traditional martial arts. Practitioners are expected to embody these virtues, not just in their practice but in their everyday lives.

古武道でも手裏剣やるんだ
I like whats said and clarified here. My entry into the study of Ninjutsu certainly came through necessity. It’s a lot of mental training with real world experiences sprinkled in. Not just techniques and conditioning although they also feed the mental part.

Okinawa is not a part of japan, okinawans identify as japanese only because its safer for them to avoid ethnic racisim/humiliation/beating/killings. Okinawa is a separate former kingdom island country that has been colonized and fucked back&forth for a long time, similair to hawaii or new zealand.

Oh look, another japanese "art" you need to learn 100000 years to master😂 pure bs
Most of the pictures show samurai wielding spears (yari). It's not bojutsu but sojutsu in that case. The Rokushakubo (six shaku long bo) was definitely not a battlefield weapon, by the way.

Yo, the audio is not working properly.
These are all amazing drops of knowledge, fascinating history facts👏
Sensei Nakayama and Sensei Nishiyama both started the JKA Instructor School , one in Tokyo Japan and one in Los Angeles called " L A Central Dojo " ( Los Angeles Central Dojo ). These were the only 2 Official JKA Inst. Schools in the world. Sensei Nishiyama passed away and there is only one now which is in Tokyo Japan.

Why.are.you.showing.people.doing.swords😮😮😮😮
What a croc of shit! You make a vid about the Kasurigama yet show nothing of it in action. Instead, you show random images of walls, gardens, some guy writing, and even a poorly dressed Hollywood ninja. Then you include some rather vague, pissweak AI generated dialogue. This vid is shit! Absolutely pathetic!
Kyudo is initially hard physical work. It was only years later that the meditative aspect became clear to me.
I doubt the origin bein traced to any Chindse martial art as it hardly uses any kick...
The origin of Okinawa karate was probably from the White Crane style of kung fu from nearby Fujian, China in the past. The Sanchin kata bears similarity to the San Chian routine the White Crane style. Even the names of the routine are the same.
You said basically nothing 👍
Excellent 👍🏿👍🏿
