Short range comms with no license? The radio I chose over a Baofeng
Looks like the radio I purchased almost a year ago is no longer available.
I did find some similar radios that work on the MURS Frequencies and still have USB C charging.
The BTECH radio actually looks nicer than my current radios and I may decide to upgrade later.

    Love my fisher space pens, but i wish they teamed with Zebra to get the smoothness of Zebras somehow.

      True, for EDC I just carry a plain F-701 as it does write a bit nicer.

  • @LouisWinthorpe622
    @LouisWinthorpe622 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would strongly advise going for the fine point refill when buying a Fisher SP refill for any pen. Not for aesthetic reasons, either. In my personal experience, and according to lots of other testimonies on YT, etc. the medium and bold are skiddy, thick, gummy pens to write with. I find bald patches when you are writing, extremely irritating. A deal breaker, in fact. I was just going to completely retire my Fisher AG7 for this reason but at the recommendations of many YT video reviewers and pen afficianados, I ordered a black, fine nib, refill and it's the only Fisher refill I've had that can actually write properly, without skipping a beat. I get that you'd want Fisher in an EDC for it's 'write on anything at any angle' ability, etc, but for a completely, out of this world, writing experience (see what I did there?) on paper, under normal conditions, try a Pentel pen with their Energel ink. I think the Pentel Energel X 0.7 is one of their cheapest and a respectable, retractable, pen. Best writing experience I've ever had. Remember that anything other than a fine tip Fisher writes pretty skippy and skiddy, sticky and bad. It's like writing with a pen full of mud but the fine nibs are totally, er, fine.

    • @surprisecamping
      @surprisecamping 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is some great information, I mostly keep the pens with the space ink in my go bags but I carry a regular Z-701 in my EDC so I don't often get to write with the space ink.

    I love the stones! I ordered them right away. I would probably cut back on the ferro rods and strikers to one each and add tender of some sort. Maybe a coil of jute twine. Then you have both tender and a little cordage. Also a Mcarmy small necklace compass. They’re quality compasses for their size. Lastly a small signal whistle. Too many people skip over this one. A national parks S&R guy I met once said one of the most important items most people miss is a survival whistle. He said they have dogs trained to hear whistles miles away from a human ear picking it up.

I am busy watching these videos instead of making my own, But I want to make one and calling an “IGG” bag. “I gotta go!” And I’d have to add the handwipes and maybe the compressed towels in case I gotta go while I’m going. That empty water bottle is wasted space. You should fill a ziplock bag with more stuff and put it inside the bottle. When you need the bottle you can take out whatever in inside and stick it in the water bottle pocket and use a carabiner to clip the bottle to your pack or just carry it.

    • @surprisecamping

      I've thought about putting stuff on the inside of the bottle but I never like the idea of having a baggie or something else hanging outside of the pack rattling around. I've done some testing at home by aiming it straight up and waving it around and it's not visible from even a short distance away (1 mile) I've had lasers that can burn things and they honestly scare me. I'm more worried about going blind than anything. A lighter would be far safer for lighting a fire.

    I think the gun, ammo, multi-tool, lighter, notepad, pen, flashlight and some other odds and ends should be carried on the body in your pockets or on a belt. Unless you think you'll be surprised and chased by an angry bear while skinny dipping in a river in the woods, there's no reason for them to be separate. There are several brands of collapsable water bottles that can save you some space if you want to carry the bottle empty and fill it later. A lot of this stuff can also be carried in a jacket with a lot of pockets, which might be handier than an actual bag. I only recently replaced my phone after about 5 years and the battery in that phone died very quickly. I was constantly tethered to a battery. Yes, once both my phone and battery are dead then that's it for them, but if that portable battery gets me a full extra charge and that full extra charge last me several hours then it might just be enough to allow me to make an important phone call. Even if all it's good for is to allow me to use the flashlight on my phone and that would still be worth it. A phone can also be used to take pictures for memory and documentation, I can take notes on it, and a flashlight obviously. I agree on the Pancho, I've already found one that I like and I've used it several times in the heavy rain down here in the southeast US, that will be going in the next version of this pack.

    as a good start. but add in a extra pair of socks. wet feet suck. and can gets sores very very fast. dump that flashlight. get a mini mag , uses double A . is alu so very strong lasts a long time and the led unit is very bright, and used right can help in a fight. add in mole skins to the med bag. think multi us for as much as you can. for my my leather man and light have there own holster on my belt. ( tail of knives have a great line of these). my bag is based on a extreme Mt bike, water bladder pack. and a hunting fanny type bag hooked together. ( weight goes on my shoulders. chest strap, and gut strap). do not even know it is there. pistol/ knife. as needed (state of ca). but non lethal a good skier pole as a walking stick. or a very good walking stick stops dogs fast. but i am the type stray / bad dogs avoid. mental prep thought pattern dogs can smell your fear, or strengths. the two legged are the bad mix.

      Those are definitely some good thoughts. I think my next bag will be combined with a GHB to form something halfway in between this really small pack in a larger bag to get a nice blend of both worlds. Then I can add extra stuff like socks and maybe a walking stick. Thank you for the ideas.

    Super glue and needles and thread. If you have room a couple tounge depressors for a splint of dry kindling.

    Obviously not the same thing, but when I was in the Boy Scouts we always had to have the 10 Scout Essentials. I don't remember them all but it's basic survival stuff. Thanks for showing us a grown up version!

      Fortunately I've not had to use this in a real life scenario. The closest I came was one night about 2am the fire alarm went off in my hotel. This pack was ready for me to grab and run out the door if I needed, by the time I was able to get myself partly dressed and some flip-flops on, the alarm went off and it seemed to be a false alarm.

    Instead of the water filtration system, you might consider water purification tablets stored in a a miniscule cosmetic plastic container and be able to replace essentially all of the weight and volume of the water filtration system.

    • @surprisecamping
      @surprisecamping 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have some purification tablets that I can put in here. The filter is nice because it can filter a lot more water. I believe this particular filter is good for 1 million gallons. Each tablet is only good for 32 oz. They also have an expiration date, I'm not sure how hard of a rule that is but for something like water purification, I don't want to find out the hard way.

      I was going to mention the expiration date problem. Of course in a real emergency, id gamble on expired v nothing.

    Similar to my bag in many ways...I don't put fear in my life, but I may have a bad day, so I make sure to keep a FUD Bag...F√©k€d Up Day Bag.

      Fear is not necessarily a bad thing, how someone responds to fear is what determines the outcome. If anything this pack reduces fear in my life by giving me the confidence to know that I have some items in case I have one of those unforeseen bad days.

    • @BouncermanDotCom
      @BouncermanDotCom 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@surprisecamping I agree with your statement about the response to fear, but only when you are alone. My reason for saying that is because EVERYONE has a "tell". The tell being eyes opening wider, a gasp of breath, sudden jerky body movements, the shakes all of which happens due to the rush of the chemical in your body called adrenaline. And soon after the sweats if it lasts long enough. It is a very natural human response due to the response in the lower rear base of the brain during the fight or flight response. The reason it is so natural is because the body craves a chemical called dopamine, which if the fear was unnecessary or if you survive the fear, you naturally laugh it off, and the muscles in your body slack....that is the hit of dopamine. That "tell" (telltale) sign that your body created sends automatic signals to those around you who view you as a leader (whether or not you are THE leader). Fear breeds fear, and makes people chaotic or sometimes freeze up in bad situations. I don't know how many times you have been responsible for people in really bad situations, but fear response is the the one you want to stay away from.

    If I was limited to only one small pouch or bag for all types of emergencies here is what I would want to have in it: a current passport (to flee the country), a current driver's license (to rent a vehicle or get through routine security checks), one ATM card (to get cash), two credit cards (to reserve a hotel room, rent a car, buy clothing, etc.), $1000 cash in denominations of $20, $50 and $100 (for any time a credit card or ATM card will not work), one foldable N-95 face mask (to filter airborne dust, smoke and asbestos particles), one head lamp with fresh batteries (for night time power outages and night time hiking), a pair of clear goggles (to protect eyes from airborne particles or low hanging branches at night), one tiny AM/FM radio with fresh batteries and ear buds (for receiving emergency broadcasts and weather info), one empty quart size water bottle with filter, one sillcock key (to use with all outdoor water faucets), a set of adhesive bandages of various sizes, charging cord for my smartphone (phone for mapping, making travel reservations, emergency communication, doing online banking and bill paying), ACE bandage wrap, two little packets real honey (excellent alternative antibiotic ointment), one folded Mylar sheet, one small butane lighter, one small size underarm deodorant, disposable black ink pen, small vial of bear spray or pepper spray, a folding pocket knife and one spare pair of socks. Anything else, I would either do without or buy along the way. Some of most valuable items (cash, passport, credits cards...) I would immediately remove from the bag and distribute in various pockets, under shoe linings, under my hat, etc. rather than carrying in the pouch/bag just in case I was mugged. I would expect to have to ditch the bear spray, knife and lighter prior to going through airport security but could replace them at my destination. If I was traveling by air, I could buy a sleep mask and earplugs in an airport shop once past airport security. Ditto for basic toiletries, snacks, bottled water, and perhaps small amounts of OTC meds, if needed. I would try to buy a reusable shopping bag at the airport shop instead of relying upon a flimsy, disposable plastic bag for carrying extra stuff. The cash or credit cards would also be useful for buying an alcoholic beverage onboard or renting the onboard movie if I was not traveling first class. If I did have the flee the mainland U.S., I would try to book flights to take me right away to the U.S. Virgin Islands and reserve a stay in a resort hotel there -- might as well have a nice vacation while waiting for it to be safe enough to return home. Alternatively, I would fly to Miami and try to do a last minute cruise ship booking for an unsold state room onboard any ship leaving the next day for any port in Europe or South America. I could buy a change of casual clothing, underwear and a swimsuit in the ship's gift shop if I did not have time to buy a change of clothing elsewhere. If I was traveling by air and landing in a foreign country where English was not widely spoken, I would also want to buy a phrase book at the airport to help me communicate the basics with the locals. Probably would also buy some perfume and booze at the duty free shop as gifts for any foreigners who were of great help to me.

    having a pen-light with a pupil-scale on the side for checking pupil response might be interesting... though it wouldn't go as far as the torch you got. Hope you have a great day & Safe Travels!

      To reduce light on flashlights I often can cover the end with my fingers and only let a small amount slip through. Might be effective enough to work for a pupil check.

      Interesting, they've gone through this kit a few times and they seem to only focus on my multi-tool. ETA: Doing some quick reading to find out more information, it has to do with the glue being flammable. Not all super glues are prohibited but rather certain ones with a flashpoint at or below 140° f
