Racing the clock on Scotland's best ridge - MAMORES ROUND
มุมมอง 4442 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Mamores round is a trail running challenge in Lochaber, Scotland where runners traverse an entire mountain range in as little time as possible. I spent the summer of 2024 covering every inch of the route in a series of reconnaissance runs before taking on the round in one huge hill day. I’ve climbed these mountains before - as a hiker. But running the Mamores in a single day would test to m...

Great if you could do more commentary over the run itselfmusic is a bit annoying just an idea ! Well done cool channel
Well done 👏certainly quite splodgy 🙈
Great video of a great race. I was one of the one or two places you made up in the road back down. I tend to make up alot of places on the open hill decent then fall away on the road. Decent shoes are a must I am using merrel skyfire 2 after going through sauconeys like no tomorrow. I find them great not so much cushion as on the hoca which I find better as I feel my feet are closer to the ground and responsive. Saying that I spend most of the way down rolling head over heels 😄
Shoe choice is so important! I got Inov-8 Mudtalons after this race - great in the boggy stuff.
Shame about the soup! 😅 Another great video though
🥲
Love the symmetrical drone shot above the gondola!
Looks like a great race
Awesome video. So interesting to see the level of preparation and planning involved. Well done Colin!
Thanks for watching Dario! Much appreciated
Well done mate. Look into the company from Finland, VJ shoes. I switched to them a couple years back and would never change now.
Thanks - I've heard good things! Got a pair of Inov8s for next time.
There is a good mixture of terrain, with a fast track and open hillside. Get yourself a pair of fell shoes that will give you grip on the steep downhills. Love those types of races with entry on the day and only £3. 'Ben' race next year?
Definitely need to look into some better footwear for the conditions! Ben race is a solid maybe...
Really loved the video, what another brilliant achievement! 🌈🥰
Thanks sis 🌈
Stunning drone footage! Really enjoyed that. New sub from us.
Thanks for the sub, and thanks for watching! It's not hard to take nice drone shots on the Mamores 😍
@ no problem! Oh I agree, in our last video I managed to take our new drone out and get some drone shots of a crashed aircraft on the Brecon Beacons😻 great tool aren’t they!
This is helpful. Thank you
Well done you did amazing 🎉l
Almost done week 2 same plan. Level 4 1/2 Marathon. Never actually trained and followed a plan. Very exciting. I have a great printer at work. So I just printed the PDF and put on a binder clip it is my Bible now. Each new week I’ll set my Garmin for any workouts with different paces to easily follow along like you did. Price you can’t beat.
Congratulations, very impressive!!! Great filming too
Thanks for watching!
Well done Colin, amazing acheivement! Thanks for sharing. I've liked and subscribed and look forward to seeing more.
Awesome, thanks for the sub! I'm aiming to post new videos every 2 weeks.
Colin, Well done and congratuations on completing. 👍 Cheers
Thanks Charlie!
Thank you for sharing such a personal story. It’s amazing how the mountains can provide so much healing and perspective during tough times. The drone shots and the nature you captured are absolutely stunning - truly beautiful scenery. Wishing you strength and peace on your journey.
Thanks for the kind words. All the best 👍
It was all going great until…. midgies…. But nice video. Well done on the circuit. The exposure on some monroes would be too much for me. Did my first one this year.
The midges at the end were dreadful! Congrats on your first Munro.
Another great vid! 🥹 Looking forward to following your next adventure! 🏃🏼💨
Thanks! Shame you couldn’t make it over from Oz but hopefully it gives a flavour of the day.
Well done Colin,great achievement.😃👏🏴
Thanks for watching!
I well done Colin. Amazing achievement. You must feel very proud. What’s next?
Thanks! It's a massive sense of accomplishment. I talk a bit about what's next at 07:49.
I remember you saying in your last video that you were getting into trail running. Well done again 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved your video.. Well done for having the courage and resilience to do something healthy for yourself. Completing the Munros isn’t a walk in the park!
It’s been tough, but so worth it! Thanks for watching.
Brilliant video mate. I started munro bagging back in 2020. Done 2 of the Glen Lyon loop. Then my next munro was Ben Lomond. I've only done 38 munros so far. But taking my time. As you say about money etc. Takes time and effort. I'll be looking out for your completion video. ATVB Alan
Fast or slow, it's all good! Completion video is coming very soon. Thanks for watching.
Well done m8 balls of steel to complete all the munroes
Why not just get to 281 then give yourself a 3 - 6 month window to get your final one. It's not a race.
Having got so far I was keen to do the final one, have the big celebration, and move on to something else.
Great video and congratulations on completing the round . . . what's next? Maybe just climbing and enjoying the spirituality of the hills without the pressure.
Thanks! I’m going to do some more hill running and set some shorter-term objectives. I always like having something to aim for.
Another brilliant video and lovely to see and hear your tributes to Dad. I know he would be so very proud of you, as we all are 💙 xx
Thanks sis 💜 x
Loads of respect to you Colin for a really honest and vulnerable video. I'm sorry that you went through aĺl that but so glad that you've found a passion that helped you through it and continues to give you joy.
Thanks Dario, and thanks again for watching! I'm in a much better place after all that.
Sad how the whole munro thing has turned into a list ticking exercise with folk doing them as quickly as they can , its all just a social media/ego thing now. This guy cant even pronounce the names of the hills he's rushed around. True hill folk take years to climb the munros , learning the history and folklore as they go.
To each their own, I say. There are many ways to enjoy the hills, all valid. I don’t speak Gaelic so you’re right that my pronunciation is off.
Having climbed my first Munro with my dad in 1952 (Ben Klibreck) and learned from him (and his library of mountaineering books) over succeeding years that the spirituality of the hills was what really counted, I too lament the fact that Munro-bagging seems to have become (for some) a box-ticking exercise . . . as has the climbing of Everest for that Instagram moment. I still get out on the hills at 77.5, both in my beloved Sutherland (where my dad was born) when I get over to the UK twice a year and here in Vancouver where I've lived for twenty years . . . where the mountains are higher but mostly tree covered!
@@rogerwatt8491 Well said and I fully agree.
True hill folk have the humility to realise that they are not the gatekeeper of how to experience mountains properly, that theirs is not the one true path, and that judging strangers motivations for enjoying the outdoors makes them sound like a tit.
Colin, I feel your pain. Covid destroyed my marriage and I no longer have my parents either. I got into hill walking for the same reason as you. Only heading towards 100 but have a focus now to get them all done. Time is behind me as I’m a year away from 50. Amazing job and huge respect 🙏🏻
Sorry for your losses. The hills are such a great outlet - glad you’ve found them too. Good luck with your round.
@@colinmeney agreed. Lost my dad to cancer too. Terrible disease. Hope the trail running is working for you 👍🏻 I’ll be at least another 2 years until I get them finished and am already wondering what will be next as it has been part of my life for several years now.
Great video and seems like some journey 🙂👍
It’s been a ride! Thanks for watching.
Great video!!! Love your TH-cam’s!!
Thanks Flora!
Was in at Loch Mullardoch doing the 4 on Saturday (3rd Aug)which I found pretty hard.🥵🥵 Not as young and fit as you Colin, lol. This leaves me 3 to finally compleat and have 2 weeks off work but the weather is going to beat me here.No way I am just ticking them off in crap weather so I will wait.Subcribed and hopefully see the end of ur journey Colin.😎👍🏴
It's a tough day at Mullardoch! Definitely worth waiting for better weather for your big day. Congrats and thanks for watching.
Another brilliant video, I’m so proud of you for everything you’ve achieved! 🥰
Thanks sis 💜
Awesome work to get so many ticked off and fantastic to hear you've nearly got them all done. When you started out on this challenge I was so in awe of what is undoubtedly a monumental undertaking. You should rightly be very proud! Looking forward to your upcoming munro bagging video as I'd love to hear more about how you plan them (or even how you keep track of them!) .
Thanks Dario - really appreciate the support!
A very good and clear video… also a kind thing to do for Ben.
It was a great training programme! Thanks for watching.
Late to the party with this one but wow … what incredible scenery at the top! Been a few years since I’ve been up a munro but this is making me want to give it a go again (walking though!). FYI - the vocal audio track seems to be only in the left speaker/ear (at least for me). Don’t think it’s been like that on other videos.
Definitely give it a go if you've got the urge! Thanks for the heads up about the audio - I'll look into that.
Good review Colin. Can't knock something like that for £7 - very reasonable!
It's a bargain!
So cool!! How many miles was the run altogether?!
16.5 miles all in!
Grear video, all the best with the race!
Thanks for watching - race went well! Race weekend vlog here: th-cam.com/video/ox0vWOibjEY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xpqxEqfMG4visq3l
Nice vid ! keep it up , you got this !
Good to see the work put in to get to the glory! Also what was that wee guitar tune starting at 13:55? That seems like exactly the kind of music you want in your ear when your getting a second wind!
That's from TH-cam's free music library! Thanks for watching Dario.
👏🏻💪
Awesome work Colin and well done for going for it (both the race and the channel). Loved the tips about mid way through - good tips for the race and life generally! Got my own (bike) race later this year so will be sure to keep those tips in mind.
Well done Col, love the vid! 🙌🏼
Congrats! Sub 1,30 is a goal of mine as well 😀😀
Great effort - and sticking it to the Garmin race predictor!
Well done pal! Proud of you 🥰
