The Power of Bad: How the Negativity Effect Rules Us and How We Can Rule It
"The most important book at the borderland of psychology and politics that I have ever read."-Martin E. P. Seligman, Zellerbach Family Professor of Psychology at that University of Pennsylvania and author of Learned Optimism
Why are we devastated by a word of criticism even when it’s mixed with lavish praise? Because our brains are wired to focus on the bad. This negativity effect explains things great and small: why countries blunder into disastrous wars, why couples divorce, why people flub job interviews, how schools fail students, why football coaches stupidly punt on fourth down. All day long, the power of bad governs people’s moods, drives marketing campaigns, and dominates news and politics.
Eminent social scientist Roy F. Baumeister stumbled unexpectedly upon this fundamental aspect of human nature. To find out why financial losses mattered more to people than financial gains, Baumeister looked for situations in which good events made a bigger impact than bad ones. But his team couldn’t find any. Their research showed that bad is relentlessly stronger than good, and their paper has become one of the most-cited in the scientific literature.
Our brain’s negativity bias makes evolutionary sense because it kept our ancestors alert to fatal dangers, but it distorts our perspective in today’s media environment. The steady barrage of bad news and crisismongering makes us feel helpless and leaves us needlessly fearful and angry. We ignore our many blessings, preferring to heed-and vote for-the voices telling us the world is going to hell.
But once we recognize our negativity bias, the rational brain can overcome the power of bad when it’s harmful and employ that power when it’s beneficial. In fact, bad breaks and bad feelings create the most powerful incentives to become smarter and stronger. Properly understood, bad can be put to perfectly good use.
As noted science journalist John Tierney and Baumeister show in this wide-ranging book, we can adopt proven strategies to avoid the pitfalls that doom relationships, careers, businesses, and nations. Instead of despairing at what’s wrong in your life and in the world, you can see how much is going right-and how to make it still better.

Well you know those cactus shadows students can't leave brandonhughes's cell phone alone. They like to promote themselves and the weak faulty worthless songss. These songs are created in and unprepared room or airspace. They can't take a baggy when they deal dope on a fake ass rigged scale. The drugs probably aren't even real and once you purchase vehicles from them the parts disappear and it instantly turns into a price of shit. They don't even put prestone in their radiator just more cactus stearate. Cactus shadows you tube music isn't multi purpose it's basically garbage and they can't leave my brandons phone alone so know I'll just get rid of them right the 1st time.

Lee was just a fling and a stepping stone to her older sister for Aristotle Onassis. Jackie was the trophy he coveted, after all she had been First Lady of the U.S.A. widow of a beloved and slain President and therefore she was the bigger catch. Lee was just a bit of fun for Onassis but Jackie was the ultimate prize for him, especially because once she married him she gave him a veneer of legitimacy. He was never going to marry Lee. He always had his sights on Jackie, especially after JFK was killed.

Onassis did not love either Caroline Lee or Jackie. His true love later in life was Maria Callas; but he dumped her her to play with Lee, then to marry Jackie

@here_we_go_again2571 that's my point. Onassis saw Lee as a bit of fun and a means to get closer to and ultimately acquire her older sister like a possession. Perhaps the only he loved was Maria Callas

This is fake news. They burn the books then replace them with fake news, like being done today around us, and in everything Zioinsts & Nazis renamed Jews and sent to occupy Israel. Now telling us they are the Jews of the Bible, While Bible is about Middle-East. And being done renaming the millions of illegals & terrorists being imported into the US, "undocumented migrants,' and now "New Americans' while demanding Asylum=US citizenship for them. Then years from now tell us that these illegals were indeed always Americans bc they are American born. These people have mastered the art of renaming things, people, places, events so to lie to the masses, as they carry wars to loot the 3rd world.

It is so sad that people would rather listen to the lies of the "golden age" and the "peaceful coexistence " narratives than investigate for themselves! It is especially relevant today when europe and the US have become flooded with the mulims immigrants. Read their teachings. If you dont submit to allah, to them, you are worse than an animal. They have been taught this so as to not be sensitive and compassion when it comes to fighting the "infidels"..
