If you are reading this we most definitely have a common passion.
Welcome to Hinemn’s Projects
I've created this channel for a multitude of reasons but the most important one is that I think it's important to give back. TH-cam (you guys) have helped me out countless times, taught me many things, saved me a ton of money and headaches plus gave me lots personal satisfaction. Thank you to all you TH-camrs for your hard work and dedication.
Another reason I created this channel is that I like to tinker, have a very technical and creative mind, spend numerous years in the automotive industry, have numerous other hobbies and I can't sit still and therefore have decided to share my experiences with you.
Like most people I have more that one interest so this channel will most likely cover more than one topic and I will see where it goes from there.
Thanks for watching, your feedback is much appreciated and please Subscribe.

Porsche Boxster 986 Unboxing New Part & IMS Bearing Tools Part 32 of Boxster Engine Swap Series
Unboxing some parts I ordered from Pelican Parts to keep this project on the rails and the box arrived torn open, here is hoping all the parts are actually there.
I am also showing off my newly acquired used LN IMS bearing removal and installation tools. Oh they are so nice.
Next I'll be performing IMS Bearing heart surgery, wish me luck.

Porsche Boxster 986 Some Rally Bad New & Engine Borescopeingl Part 33 of Boxster Engine Swap Series

Nothing is ever easy with these projects, one kick in the head after another. Will it be worth it in the end when I'm driving this baby down the sunny roads with the wind blowing or will I crying myself to sleep at night with being the owner of 2 scrap Porsches? Only time will tell, I gotta keep the foot on the gas pedal and get this thing done. I am borescoping the cylinders with a borrowed ch...
Porsche Boxster 986 Engine Mount Oil Cooler Flywheel Removal Part 32 of Boxster Engine Swap Series
It’s amazing how much easier this beast is to work on when it’s sitting on my floor instead of crammed in the car. In this episode, I’m stripping down the engine even more, yanking off all the external parts so I can get closer to the IMS bearing. While checking the valves, I hit a bit of a snag (spoiler: it wasn’t great news), but I’m optimistic it’ll all work out in the end. What’s coming off...

This heart surgery is no joke. With the engine already out, it’s tough enough-I don’t even want to imagine tackling this job with it still in the car. In this episode, I’m pulling the alternator, starter, and power steering pump from the flood engine. Let’s just say... it was a pain in the butt. If you’re not experienced, I wouldn’t recommend trying this with the engine still in. So sit back, r...
Porsche Boxster 986 Flood Engine Tear Down Part 30 of Porsche Boxster Engine Swap Series

Getting closer to swapping out this Boxster’s heart, but first, I need to tear down the flood-damaged engine. Pretty sure the electrical is totally shot, so I’m playing it safe and swapping over all the components from the old (but not flooded) engine. At least I know that stuff works. There’s no manual for this-no step-by-step guide, no how-to video. I’m figuring this out as I go, one bolt at ...

Porsche Boxster Engine Swap - Part 27: Yanking Out the Beast Here we go-time to pull this engine out and show it who’s boss. After weeks of prep, it’s finally time to drop the Boxster’s heart like it owes us money. There’s no turning back now. when u finish restoration, enjoy the drive. My 75 914 has been gone since 1988. but what a little beast she was!!
wow, great video's , purchased a boxster 986 with a dead engine to under go a swap, after watch all the video , i think i might just sell this project
Rather than spend $400 on a pelican single row IMS bearing, and I’m guessing another $300 for those tools…. You could have bought the TuneRS direct oil feed kit and RENTED the tools you need for $800
That was definitely an awesome job you did👍
Thanks for your encouragement, I hope you get something out of these videos and tackle such a project yourself.
I do enjoy the content here. I have a 986 (03, "S") as well. I did have the IMS changed at 67k when I bought it. So, it has been good for four years and fun as well. Keep up the video's and your channel will grow. Here from AZ, so no winter to worry about.
Hey @RFRadMan. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, I'm working on getting the whole series on this Boxster out soon..ish. Doesn't that new IMS bearing give you such peace of mind when you're behind the wheel going through the gears? It's cold and snowing here right now, there is no Porsche in sight so could really go for some AZ weather right now. Thanks for watching, much appreciated.
Not for the faint of heart in a car or on a bike.
😎
Very good to know, good video
Thanks, I hope this helps for your next brake job.
Great looking car but that motor not so great thanks to the pollution laws of that time I'd like to know what they did to the engines in the movie cars
Still a pretty good looking car, big engine, lots of noise but probably not a lot of go. As you mentioned about the pollution laws back the. Thanks for the support.
Absolutely crazy how well the interior held up...
Too bad about the rest of the car, the interior was like a time capsule. I will get the video series up soon ish. I need to finish the Porsche Boxster Engine Swap series first. I'm almost sure it took me less time to do the actual work than editing the videos. Thanks for your support.
Nice finds
thanks, which one would you pick if you could pick just one?
Amazing engine tricky getting the spark plugs on the 911 turbo and rs america awesome work on your Porsche
Not the easiest of spark plug access for sure. 👍
Bring her back!
That easier said than done. I will get the video series up soon ish, I need to finish up the Posche Boxter Engine Swap Series first which is taking me longer than doing the actual work. It's all good, it will make it on YT soon. Thanks
The steering wheel is for 987.1 ?
Very good eye, I didn't notice. It came with the car, could be a leftover from the previous year, who knows. Have you checked out the Boster 986 Engine swap series yet? Cheers
I really missed the opportunity to watch this completely while at work! Great Job :) I had a few real good chuckles.
That's great, keep on watching and thanks for your support. I'm getting the videos out now. There is another series coming with the Porsche I found in a barn after 45 years......spoiler alert, it's not pretty.
Easy 986 engine swap, I must get up to speed with your channel!! Looks sweet!!
What a beauty, love the red color. My very first car ever at the age of 18 (finishing high school) was a 1986 VW Scirocco with grey color & black leather. I work for 3 summers with enough money save for a down payment for a 12 months finance plan. Not to mention, it was my very first time driving a stick car out from the dealership parking lot for a test drive. I stuck on three red lights with people honking/cussing from behind and than “BOOM” I’m off like a pro and never look back…🤣 I’d it for over 15 years and man do I love that little bugger. Great gas mileage & a quick accelerations, especially going up the mountains. Sad thing, I had to get rid of it due to an accident messing up the driver side sway bar mount chassis. Boy I sure still missed that little bugger…
Very Good and well explained…… I’ve always had issues with the trolley jack fouling the axle stands, what did you do to overcome this, I see you stands just might be a tad smaller, also did you know there are small circular points that a hockey puck can be used to protect the underside of the cells etc.
I’m speechless!!! ….I wouldn’t let this guy anywhere near my car, the way he just threw the parts on the ground and the lack of care with the interior parts would result in many scuffs and scratches all over the components, didn’t even have the correct socket to remove the engine access panel but went ahead without first checking the nut size. I would never (position at 8.20)place tools on top of the paintwork either, total lack of care, Good example what not to do when working on a car that deserves better.
Great video mate, its nice to see people taking a moment and sharing the lessons learned, I'm watching with interest!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I will do my best to get all the videos edited and published sooner than later. It’s a monster of a project, I’ll spend more time on the videos than I did on the car. Both are fun.
Thanks for watching all the way in Brazil 🇧🇷 , much appreciated. Fiat did a much better job with the Argo for sure.
Looks like they learned some lessons from the old Multipla of what no to do. Lol 😂
The Countach is my alltime favorite dream car
I’m a gen-x kid, at the time the Countach was the car for me as well.
Why spray down the cover before taking it off the car? I've never seen that before. But yes - like unwrapping a present!
Good point indeed, what doesn't show up in the video is all the dust that accumulated over the winter in my garage and I didn't want to put the cover away dirty so I decided to hose down the cover and to my surprise the water beat off it like it was ceramic coated. The unwrapping in the spring is always fun to see the summer car emerge from it's winter slumber. It's cold way too long in Canada.
@@hinemnsprojects9202 that was the only acceptable answer! 😘
What size is the oil filter wrench please for the 987.2?
Hey, I'm looking at my oil filter wrench and it does not have a size on it but as far as I can remember the oil filter size is 74.4 mm and is 14 point in 3/8' drive. I opted for an aftermarket filter wrench from Amazon I believe because I don't do that many oil changes and didn't see the point if purchasing and expensive wrench. That said, do get the proper wrench and don't rely on any other filter thing to get the housing off.
cord
You are correct, this thing was way ahead of its time and still looks sleek and sexy
The brit who showed the Americans how to race.
Sadly I don't know too much if anything about this story and even worse I'm getting my facts from Ford vs Ferrari. How true to the facts is the movie?
@@hinemnsprojects9202 not very, but it is really good at giving the general idea as to what happened. If you wanna see something more accurate, Grand Tour season 1 episode 6 is more accurate. Its on prime
This is cool. My accord has a v6
Your accord is a piece of shit!
So does the Ferrari 296, big difference from that and an Accord though
The Ford GT is definitely a cool car however I feel that Ford using their EcoBoost name on this car a bit strange. Not sure I'd compare your Honda V6 to this Exotic but Honda did put that V6 in their first generation Acura or Honda NSX depending which country you're in.
Even the new Ford Mustang's V6 has more power then the older V8s but for some reason most if not all V6s just doesn't get the acceptance it should. The one thing the Honda V6s is going for them is their reliability compared to any other car out there witch are not nearly as much fun to drive as the Ford GT or Ferrari 296.
80
You mean it’s a 1980?
Never liked em. Its got that 70s 80s poor fit and finish, i wanna build a north american ferrari, bricklinesque look to it. A 351 cleveland is hardly going to make anyones pulse race. I dont know why tim horton was driving one.
Most if not all cars of that era had poor fit, finish, and made of cheap materials but that’s what was cutting edge at the time. Even Ferrari and Porsche don’t look so good compared to today’s cars. When you do build your Bricklinesque car, make sure you post the progress on YT.
All other manufacturers simply under-engineered their wire clips.
Makes you wonder, doesn’t it. This clip is still working perfectly fine after all these years of service, kinda impressive I think.
@@hinemnsprojects9202agreed sir
sick
Yea that's it, one must be "SICK" in the head to be buying a non running Porsche Boxster in the middle of a Canadian winter.........
How’s the car looking rn?
That was just an old 1/4 panel I saw at somebody’s old shop they closing. The 914 in my other I ended up selling as it was too far gone.
How did you get the CV axle out without taking off the exhaust?
I did take the exhaust off, however there must be a way to take them off without taking off the exhaust
Mine only sat for 10 ish years so good luck with hell hole
These old cars had the rust come right from the factory, good thing they don't make em like they used to. Event though the car could have been restored I however don't like throwing good money after bad and I don't have the time to sink in a car that in the end is not worth that much money. I passed the torch and now somebody else gets the joy of restoring this 914.
awesome!! Yes please save this poor car!
It sure was an awesome find, a barn find find right in the city, who would have known? I will put the whole process on TH-cam at some future point. Somebody else will have to save this poor neglected thing as I had to bail out of the project.
Cool car! They all have rust at some point! Have fun with it!
Most cars of that era had the free rust option come right from the factory, thank goodness they don't build them like they used to. LOL
engine swaps are never boring!! keep it coming!
Thanks for your vote of confidence, I will do my best to get those videos out there in the hopes it will help others or at least entertain.
Just curious if you still have it? I would be interested if paperwork is ok: if car could be registered and legally used after restoration.
Sadly I decided to sell it earlier, I still have sellers remorse.
Wow I thought mine was bad sitting since for 36 years
It was bad but not as bad as one that’s gone through a few Canadian winters, still too much rust for me at this stage in my life.
I have one of those also and I will be restoring mine as well. it also has the fuel injection..
Keep it slide if you can, make sure you put the journey on TH-cam for all of us to see
@@hinemnsprojects9202 That is the plan but I might have to sell the car because I cannot keep it where it is right now.
u have bolt missing from header maybe? check before u check the oil filter cover in the video
Thanks for pointing it out, I’ve since replaced that bolt. Weird how it got missing. Thanks for watching, I hope the video helped.
Hi am intrested in the e9. How can i get hold of u
Hey, the E9 is now gone, thanks for checking in.
Am still intrested if you connect me with the buyer
Fiat multipla ! Lol that’s old and ugly, was ugly brand new
@@bricemazz I'm baffled the this thing made it through numerous stages of designs and many people agreed to manufacture it. This is what happens when non car people design cars
@@hinemnsprojects9202 agreed, in France we had the ugly Citroen C5 first generation. they pay millions dollars to make something ugly that barely anybody likes and buy
Loving your videos, TH-cam has only just recommended them despite me falling down the Boxster rabbit hole weeks ago!
Thanks Simon, I’m working on getting the rest of the videos edited and out there, however finding the free time to do so is not easy for me but I will get them done so stay tuned to the Boxster Rabbit Hole.
Am interested how to contact you
Sorry but the car is gone, it was in pretty bad shape
How much?
Sorry but the car is now gone to a new home, someone with much deeper pockets than me to get it back on the road.
You don't want to deal with this guy he is a goof. Think he Kwons about the 914, he just talks smack
Does she run? Do you have a link for sale anywhere
It does not run, it’s been sitting way too long. I’m selling that interior and probably part out the rest or sell the whole car. It’s on Kijij.ca here in Toronto Canada
Did you stall out on the project? I'm excited to see the latest progress.
I’m glad you like the project, I have the next video in progress and will hopefully post it soon, depending on how much spare time I’ll have coming up soon. Hang tight, I’ll get the videos of the Porsche Project out.
Fix it but i think it will be a high price
Took me some time to make the right decision for me whether to fix it or not and you’re correct it would be a high price…more than it’s worth. I have a saying…Don’t throw good money after bad. I’ll make more videos of the car at some point. Thanks for watching.
