Heavy Meta(l) - Why we evaluate evaluations: an introduction to Meta Evaluations
Evaluations are used to generate relevant, valid, reliable and objective findings for evidence-based political discussions and decisions. To this end, evaluations should follow methodological and practical quality standards which also apply in empirical research in general. But how can the quality of an evaluation be assessed? In this seminar we want to provide an answer to this question by outlining key evaluation quality criteria and discussing the typical steps according to which a meta-evaluation is implemented. Finally, some key findings from a recent review of meta-evaluations conducted at the CEval are presented to shed some light on the current state of evaluation quality in Development Cooperation.
Presenter details:
Dr. Stefan Silvestrini is the CEO of the CEval GmbH, the commercial spin-off of the Center for Evaluation at the Saarland University. He is a Sociologist with a particular focus on empirical methods and impact evaluation. In these fields, Stefan has led numerous evaluations for government and NGO sectors in the European Union, South and South-East Asia as well as Sub-Sahara Africa.
This event was organised & hosted by the New Zealand Regional Network of the AES.
