Spiny lobster fishing/hoop netting southern California. It started slow with many empty hoop net pulls, but ended up getting some lobsters for Thanksgiving dinner. Some were pretty big lobsters, and hoop netting is always enjoyable.

Thanks for sharing. Good to see you catch and release. I wanted to reach into my screen and simply move that rod in the holder to the other side of the boat for you, lol, but I get it, once the bite is on it's impossible to pause. My experience with barracuda when you're bouncing them like you is sometimes they will spit the iron right at the boat when you have a big bend in the rod. I've seen big heavy irons hook people on cattle boats. Always a sketchy situation but you handled yourself really well! :)

Barracuda bit daiwa zakana jig well last time I was there.

What rod did you pair it with?
I have it paired with DAIWA proteus 8' 10" Heavy for 20-50lb with 60 braid and 35 fluoro.
It's hard to get those 14" or above Calicos. Maybe SC island might yield some keepers. Nice video, getting me excited again.
Yeah, I probably only had 4 or 5 that day that was over 14. Kept one since it was gut hooked.

How much do a pound of live bait cost?
It's sold by scoop, 50 dollars for one scoop which is about 10 lbs. We usually get half, which is 40.

@@cowboysnation1594 I would get full scoop for four or even more if your bait tank can hold it. My bait tank can only handle half, that's why I get half. If bait tank was bigger, I would get full or more

did you buy anything?
Ended up buying some 1.50 sabikis and a rod blank to build a spinning rod that I like to use for catching bonitos at Catalina.
Was there any raffles there?
I didn't really pay attention to raffles, but I think there was some.
Use Mussels to catch Sargo. They are good to eat. Deep fry them and dip them into fish sauce and fresh chili peppers.
Will frozen work as well? It's kind of hard to catch mussels these days, it was easier when I was fishing piers or jetties on my younger days.🤣

Tried lobster fishing on the pier for the first time yesterday but didn't catch anything. Is there a good spot in Long Beach for it?
@@DTOC888 Pier wise not really. I heard some have caught them off of Belmont pier and Huntington pier after a very long soak.

You are correct. It wasn't even tied with proper knot. Haha. It is fastest way for me to convert from fly line single hook to sinker rig to fish the bottom. 😀

Looks like you got out there just before slack tide, better then an hour before. Nice haul you got once you found them. We went out Tuesday night, lots of shorts, no keepers, but we salvaged our night when we went to a rock crab spot and pulled up a few fat crabs. Waiting on the new moon for our next trip.
Yeah, little before slack tide and played waiting game and they started crawling couple hours before high tide. Good that you found crabs. I prefer crabs over lobster 😀

Hello I’m getting to jet ski fishing just got my lobster license. How far you go of the shore? Or can I tag along I’m a bit scared lol
I usually do inside the harbor. About 1 or 2 away from launch ramp.
Were you out last night? We were and had a good night as well. 6 keepers, could of had 9 but 3 were clickers. We also pulled a couple big boys as well. Not to give out spots, but were you at a corner? If so I think I was just down from you. Great hoop netting!🦞
I was out on Sunday night. I also had some big boys mixed in. Seems to be a good week overall.

104 bugs with 9 keepers and was able to run home by 9:30, that's a win! I'm sure you had some clickers out of those, but good on tossing them back. How was the run over there and back?
Yeah, many clickers but rather be safe than sorry. Running back wasn't much different than doing it during the day time except the fog that we ran into about 2 miles out from harbor. I wouldn't mind running back at night again, but I missed being able to relax with long soak and just watching Netflix on the phone inside harbor. Inside harbor is more of hanging out, with lobster fishing as extra, but there we were more focused on lobster fishing than ever.
@@naldodook Always safe to toss them back. Yeah I’ve been contemplating on making the run over there. DFW just did another sample this week, hope the report will be good when it comes out supposedly by Friday. You’re right, fishing in the harbor is relaxing, especially later in the season when there’s less people out.

Very nice, you're killing it season ! Was that this weekend? If so how was the fog? Yesterday morning I went out to get macs and it was so foggy it was like I was blind folded.
This Sat. Fog was thick with in 2 miles from harbor, but catalina was clear after 2 pm.

One tip I use is removable zip ties that release with a tab. Great for so many things that you take on and off like bait tube top. I liked an idea I saw a guy use regular zip ties to mark his rope every 35 ft or so.
I ll definitely consider that next season.
I got a 21' CC and I love to see content from private boaters like you, going to Catalina and such. I would like to go for some blue fin, have you done that yet? Your lobster video is excellent, especially your equipment and techniques. Im interested to see you go over your rigging, line management and organization techniques on video. Also did you make your bait tubes out of black pvc? I enjoy lobster fishing and want to do more, I have similar setup, maybe could share some ideas with you too. Thanks for good video
I have done bluefin on east end cat and behind catalina, but didn't get any, lol. I used blck 3inch pvc from home depot.

I launched from Alamitos Bay, I would say I was cruising around 25mph since I was solo.
