Thank you for posting. I did a long retreat with Thich Nhatt Hanh in Vermont in 2000. I pointed out to one of the monks that wearing leather shoes and a down jacket did not match what they were teaching us. This monk accused me of being angry and told me I needed to look at my anger. He avoided my question and took no responsibility for how he and the other brothers and sisters were dressed. I stopped following Plum Village after that. I'm so glad to hear about the changes over the years.

Unfortunately, because of the way the agribusiness industry works, it's too expensive for poor people to eat properly on a vegan diet. We have to suffer either poor nutrition or getting enough protein and vitamins with a bunch of suffering.. Capitalism is evil, and the corporatism (merger of corporate and State power, aka Fascism)into which American capitalism has "evolved " is even more so: Utterly evil and against real life.

❤ compassion for animals is the utmost compassion because they will not say thank you or give us a reward. That's why it's the purest compassion

What an absolute legend. It's so weird to see Buddhists who don't think veganism is important. Being vegan is a massive step toward reducing the suffering we inflict on others.

This is how an authentic spiritual teacher imparts wisdom. Those who do not address the suffering of animals via our dinner plate are false prophets.

I'm vegan for justice for animals. You can call it compassion. I call it justice. For justice must exist even where love and compassion do not or no longer exist. Justice can be established as a principle, as a system, which is imposed on all others.

He is talking about those films about big industrial productions where animals are nothing but machines, to thise yougsters who come from countries (wether german, austria, suiss) where cows and people live together in mountains, are brought up to the green wild grass in summer and go back inside heated warm houses during winter (they could not survive outside) where they are fed mostly with dry grass and complements. Of course their life contain suffering like the separation of the families and being impregnated more than they would be otherwise. But they spend 99% of their life together in medium groups outside just eating and enjoying the landscape and in winter being heated and cures by man. This life seem even better than most human lifes. I dont drink milk but i recognise that without it all these famikies and countries would not have any cow as they dont survive in the cold winters, and these families would have to cultivate much more. They actually get most of their nutrients from cows milk and meat. I mean i see what he is referring to but these entire cultures are based on the cow human relationship. The cultural gap is big. These people have very few industrial farms and thousand of small family farms. You should see every year they bring the cows in the villages with special garnement to honour them. I heard that in india similary some cow live among family in the backyard where they are like a pet.

To those devotees who is serving monks meat. U causing monks to b slandered as eating impure. If u like meat. R u a demon? Stop looking at sentient beings and see them as food. Are you a demon? No? To that animal you love to eat them..you are a scary horrifying demon. It is bad karma to eat meat. Kill n eat you will have your own life force taken away too not nourished. Stop comparing animals to plants. Animals have central nervous system. Plants don't. The pain n awareness cannot be compared. Stop killing. Stop stealing their life force by forcing them from healthy state to death. Stop stealing their meat. It is their body not your food. Don't kill and thank them. They will thank u if u stop seeing them as meat. You demon. What's wrong with you? Stop causing sexual misconduct by forcing animals to be raped n reproduced. Stop lying to yourself that you are not a meat eating demon. You are sick psychopath. Imagine someone look at you n kill n cook u? Don't pray n say oh I am so grateful God. Stop doing this nonsense. Nobody is grateful for you causing so much violence n pain.
