RV Damaged by Railroad | Hydraulic Lift Jack Torn Off | RV Tech DIY Repair (S3E58)
In this episode, we did major damage to our RV! We smashed the front lift jack on a railroad crossing and tore it almost completely off the camper. The worst feeling in the world. How did it happen? How did we fix it?
Join our large crazy family as we continue our epic RV adventures! Eager to explore this great American country of ours, we bought a camper and set out to have adventures and make memories with our family. With 9 people on board, we travel 5200 miles, 19 days, over 15 states to see the National Parks. Toddler, kids, teenagers, and adults - how did we survive?
The next year, we decided that our camper needed a makeover so we completely renovated and remodeled the camper. The camper build was so much fun, but by the end we were ready to get back on the road for more family adventures.
Camping, travel, family, campgrounds, hiking, cooking, nature, cities, sightseeing, touring, we did it all! But, we are not experts! We share the good and the bad of this adventure with you on our channel so you can start planning your own Adventures & Activities!

I enjoyed the video. I plan on going there soon, and you provided the exact information I was looking for. Just subscribed, I look forward to seeing more of your adventures!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Just subscribed to you too. Gonna catch you Lake Tahoe videos. That's on our future travel plans.
Add an electrolisys machine to increasy the gas mileage.
Thanks for watching! It's a good idea for anyone with the know how.
Sorry if you have discussed this already but I’m looking for a van now. I’m told longer wheelbase vans make it more difficult to maneuver the trailer when backing up. Have you noticed that?
Thanks for watching! Maybe some other folks here will chime in with their feedback. In our experience, the extended 15-passenger Chevy with the longer wheelbase did very well. But I never towed with the normal wheelbase van so I cannot compare.
hmmm did they offer additional tours?
Thanks for watching! Yes. They have lots of different tours, from pretty easy to more difficult.
What did you replace your carpet with? What is it called and where did you get it? Neat idea!
Thanks for watching! We got it from RecPro and they call it TPO Marine and RV flooring. It has held up very well!
Same exact van same exact problem I’m gonna try to do it my self wish me luck
Good luck. It's a pretty simple job. Hope it solves the problem
Well I took it apart and was filthy with debris got it together and I’ll know next time it rains ..thanks for making this video helped me a lot hope it works . Btw my 3 kids love this van room to spread out and tons of power to pull the boat❤❤
What fridge did you switch too?
We got the fridge from Home Depot. I think it was a Samsung. Just a normal fridge like you could put in your kitchen at home.
I love what you did! We have the same model and looking to be full timers soon while we save money. Question, are the closets you took out structural at all for the roof? I told my bf I wanted to do what you guys did and he mentioned the closets are probably adding structural support and the roof may eventually sag or crumble. Thoughts?
Thanks for watching! We are still loving the remodel a few years later. The closets were not structural at all.
I’m saving up to get my first travel trailer in a few years, I was worried that I was gonna go way over budget with a truck but now I’m excited to get a van instead!! Vans are cheaper and it’ll give me more space for taking family on vacations and luggage and space for my pets!! Thank you!
Best of luck! Happy travels!
Do you have a blue print or a diagram with the demensions?
Thanks for watching! I am afraid we did not have a blue print. We just worked up the measurements in a notebook.
Tom Hank's Brother recommends it then it's good for me.
Thanks for watching
Brilliant!
Thanks for watching
Beautiful place, so much fun, so much to explore. 😊
Thanks for watching! It is amazing! We hope to get back there some day.
Thank you
God be with us....we are Americans who love the USA 🇺🇸!

Hope everyone has/had a great Independence Day!!❤❤
Thank you
Thank each and every person that protects us all!!! GOD BLESS US "ALL" IN THE GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
I love my country
I'm old school. Still brings tears of great pride and gratefulness for being blessed to have been born in this great nation. 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇺🇸 ❤ 🙏 🙏 🙏
Glad I found your video as I just removed the queen bed from my camper and going to put in two twin beds. Do y ou have the measurements you used for the beds and if so can you share them please.
We knew that our queen mattress was 60 inches wide and so we built from that dimension.
Who cares who thinks it’s not cool that is a cool set up ❤😂
Thanks for watching!
what brand are your front steps? its a 2-3 step right?
Thanks for watching! Not sure of the brand. We like the Lippert steps and might get them in the future.
There is nothing safe on the road about pulling anything, you must be safe and never go over the speed limit while pulling tricycle or a 40ft trailer. Practice pulling it a few times tell you get the hang of it. I have a chevrolet express passenger van 3500 and it's going to work at the end of the year, pulling a 40ft trailer it is my Tiny house. Happy Trails 👣.
Thanks for watching! Happy travels!
I have a1994 G20 Chevy van.I pull a 25ft Starcraft camper with it. Sometimes I pull a 26ft Glasstron cuddy cabin.(When going fishing to the Florida's key).
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. One of the few Georgia State Parks we have yet to camp at. On our bucket list. Informative and entertaining. Blessings.
Thanks for watching! Happy camping!
I have the same van. I tow 3 ATVS with a 20 foot trailer. The transmission downshifting is weak got to ride the brakes going down the mountains highway here in Colorado. Trailer weighs 2400 2 ATVs weigh 750 each and other 850lbs. Total of 4750 lbs. Add the 5 teens and adults. We are still under the weight. It tows great on flat land but horrible on mountain passes. Great video thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! Safe travels!
Good video. Can you point me to the tow mirror extensions for chevy express? My plan is to pull the plastic panels and add thinsolate for sound and temp.
Thanks for watching! We got our tow mirror extensions from AMAZON. They work well and can be removed when not towing. But we mostly just leave them on.
Get your van lifted! Check out my van, doesn't look boring and you have more ground clearance for boon docking. You can rear locker it for more traction. TH-cam recommended your video to me. I'm a van content creator so I clicked for the algorithm and commenting to help your channel! I roll in a V10 Econoline van Got the V10 because Im a car guy. Was considering the GM 6.0 too. Did you know the Newer GM vans now have a 6.6 Gas Engine with 400 horsepower and 430 ft lbs of torque! Muscle car power numbers! When it's time for a new van I need that engine!
Omg where is this??? I must visit, bring my kids!! What an awesome playground! ❤ i wish i could repaint it, but no one will allow me! And the way its going eith all these silly safety laws, they might remove it soon! 😢😢
It was so much fun to find this park! It was in Alabama at a state park.
Hey...thanx y'all...been thinking about getting a 20-24 foot trailer and was wondering if my Ford E250 would tow it...your video gives me a bit more confidence in this idea...since ive never towed anything before im kinda chicken of the whole thing...lol... thanks for the great video and info and i pray God may bless your paths and flood your lovely family in His peace and safety...
Thanks for watching! God bless you and safe travels!
Hi, I have been driving Ford vans for over 25 years. All current model Econoline vans(150-350) are rated to pull right at 7500lbs . The exceptions are dually cutaways and standard length SRW E350's with the V10 or diesel option. They are rated for 10,000lbs. I would suggest using an anti-sway kit when towing near max. Ford standard length vans tow much nicer than the extended version due to rear overhang. It tends to be a little squirrelly at highway speeds because of it. Chevy extended vans push their rear axle further back which is inherently more stable hence the 9500lb rating. I hope this helps.
@xtv007 Aww...thanks my friend...that really helps a ton😁I truly appreciate the great info...may God bless your path I pray...
We are going there soon! That pier is amazing.
Thanks for watching. You will love this park! So much to do!
I tow a 33' Zinger with a 2011 F150, 5.0, and tow package. I get 7.5 towing and 20 highway; not all that far off the van. It's getting old, though, and newer trucks are crazy expensive. We are thinking about a van so we can use it to pull or just overnight in the van at times.
Thanks for watching! The van is a great option for tow vehicle, and you're right that it gives you the ability to overnight in it much more comfortably than in a truck!
Nice van. I like it. For your families situation its perfect.
We agree!
What happened to the van? Was thinking of towing with my ford transit awd f250
Thanks for watching! Let us know how the Transit does towing. Lot of folks love those vans.
The background music was almost louder than the person talking about the background.
Thanks for watching!
This place looks great. Thanks for the tour.
It was fantastic! Happy travels! Thanks for watching.
I’ve Tee needs his money
Thanks for watching
Needs front wheel alignment
Thanks for watching
Only reason they sell a uhaul is because it has a worn engine or somethings wrong, car trailers and other trailers uhaul sells are pretty tight tho
Thanks for watching
Good info and video thanks we head out Wednesday.. Question how is parking?
Thanks for watching! As I recall, there were a couple of public lots for parking. But you did have to walk maybe 5 minutes or so.
I can't drive but I've seen someone back all the way out my block soooo yea dont let this stop you
Thanks for watching
I have the same issue but different model of van (Mazda e2000) tonight I'll try to properly clean the condenser and hopefully no more water on my partner's feet! Thank you
Good luck. With a different van, the process might be a little different but you'll figure it out!
I always pay my bill and im sure most people do how ever the people who dont pay there bill probably wouldn't let this stop them plus this is probably considered holding people against there will or kidnapping dont matter if they didnt pay this is just a guess though
Good luck. With a different van, the process might be a little different but you'll figure it out!
Wife said “I’m tired of hearing about it, tell everyone else!” 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching!
Wife in the background is like get on with it already 😂 Good tip!! I found those hoses to be quite handy in my RV build! They fit the faucet threads under the sink 😊
Thanks for watching!
This is so cool 😎
It was so fun to make!
I tow a 32' Grand Design with a 2014 Chevy Express 2500 12-passenger van with the 6.0L engine. It's the standard length (just fits in the garage with inches to spare) so it's a little easier to drive and park than the long wheelbase model. I take out the two middle bench seats and keep the full-width rear benches in. There is enough room behind the bench for a tool bag, a 3kw propane generator and a 20lb propane bottle and some miscellaneous stuff. That opens up the middle so our two large German Shepherd Dogs have plenty of room, and whoever is not driving can lay down on the rear bench and nap. I'm really happy with the setup. With a pickup you're forced to sit in one spot for hours at a time, with a van whoever's not driving can get up and move around, get a drink or make a sandwich from the cooler, or even use the porta-potty. I've owned one pickup and four vans, so I'm definitely a van guy. The Chevy was the only one I found that had the payload and towing capacity for a good-sized trailer. I added a TrueTrac helical-gear limited slip for traction, and SumoSprings on both the van and trailer to smooth out the ride. With an Anderson WDHitch it tows like a dream. Also, it's dual-fuel so I can run E85 (I don't when I tow because of a small loss of hp) which is going for around $4/gal compared to $6/gal here in the SF Bay area.
Thanks for watching! Happy travels!
Thanks for recording this. I’m the Union soldier with the back pack.
How cool! It was great being out there with y'all.
