I'm a McNeil of Barra decent. I cried watching this ... I long for "home". I wonder if any of the McNeil's are buried here at the castle?
I am a McNeil. - so excited to see this !!
merci
Watching the video you can feel the History and it touches my soul
How on earth is anyone able to read the anything on the walls at that speed😊
My husband is a Pennsylvania MacNeil. It is very nice to see this piece of his heritage.
It’s been restored beautifully, but I can only imagine how many skeletons are around that castle and beneath the cliffs.
I too am a direct descendant of Clan MacNeil of Barra and wish to visit someday too.
My relatives lived in Prince Edward Island And Nova Scotia. My grand father was in the military during WW1. I'm wondering if any one is related to William Grant Mac Neill. He and his family moved to Rhode Island New England. Where l was born son of Albert Mac Neill.
So happy I found this video since I have heard of this castle all my life. My Mother was a McNeil. Hello to any cousins who make their way here after me. My grandfather was Joe McNeil and he lived his younger years in Natchez Ms and moved to Brookhaven Ms where he raised his family. My youngest brother was given the name Neil.
Bet I got some McNiel blood, my sister did a geneology test and we had large percentage of heritage from the western Outer Hebrides and Aberdeen area, both parents families originated out of Scotland with a small bit of Scandinavian blood which I'm guessing came from Vikings who raided and settled Northern Scotland.

Wow. Kisimul Castle is Beautiful 💖💖
Thank you so much for a great show around
Good to see so many of my cousins here in the comments! Edit: hyphenated last name, it's Crockett-McNeil
I hope to visit someday!
I am a Macneil from Cape Breton Island Canada i wish i knew more about my family tree ,language and where we came from and as far as i can tell alot of our history wasn't written down. This castle draws me in someday i hope to see it, all i know is that they say all the Macneils here come from Barra .With out knowing who and where you come from leaves an emptiness in your soul and a loss of connection someday i hope to connect the dots.So was it being forced to leave by the english in the clearances the reason we migrated or was it a chance for prosperity our people left?
Our dna was tested and the long held thought that we were from Ireland, we stood and lived on it at a point, You come from Nordic roots ,ie vikings
My surname is Nelson. Is it likely I descend from this clan?
Beautiful video and music. I was reminded of out visit to the castle and the Island, what a wonderful time. Thank you.
The home of my ancestors
As a kid I always wanted to live in a castle. Now, they just look cold and damp! 🥶 Visiting is fun though!
Are those Mc Neill buried here? does someone live here sometime?
super perfect, also music <3
Great vid and tour of the Castle topped of with a bit Runrig 😃
In most castle video's the tourist's get tunnel vision and point the camera where their feet hit pavement, missing the stunning panoramic views. Missed several views of the courtyard while ascending the tower. Still, this is my very favorite castle, not too big, not too small.
I was there a few years ago as a mcneill it was good to see
Great video. Can somebody tell me, what a black and a white kitchen is?
A wonderful castle.
I'm from New Zealand, and my grandmas from the mcneil clan. Im also half Maori, i wonder if i'm the first Maori of the McNeil clan? haha
That's really cool!
yeah right
what I wouldn't give to spend a night out there by myself with a hunk of cheese, a loaf of oat bread and a bottle of Oban! I've been to Castlebay but not out to Kisimul. Next time I pledge!
Beautiful. Thanks
Nice video and music. Thank for sharing. I am due to start working for a company with a similar name, shortly. It seeks to provide a safe haven. 😊
I checked my ancestry records and the genealogy says I'm a descendant of the Clan McNiel/MacNiel/MacNeil (other spellings). Neil McNeill left Scotland for America in 1739. Great to see the Clan McNeill Kisimul Castle.
It can also be spell McNeal. I am also a MacNiel
Awesome video, never got the chance to visit Barra and the castle when I was on holiday in the outer Hebrides as it was a stormy day. Is the legend true about Ruari the Turbulent, all the gold that he looted he melted them and made horse shoes from them for his horse, I was searching more about him online and found the legend about him.
Thankyou for the great video and beautiful music.
Nice tour. I’ve always wanted to go, but it’s late in life now. As to the chieftainship... sorry Brevigs, looks like the Lord Lyon has already made his decision, and there is no recourse beyond that.
At this point, the Cheiftanship is a moot point, even when the Lord Lyron granted Robert Lister the Cheiftanship he said "there is no possible way you could be of the cheiftan line" but because there was no contesting at the time he was "illegally" given the title, Wally MacNeil of Prince Edward Island who was the rightful cheiftan was in fact contesting it, however, because it took so long for word to reach Scotland from Canada the allowed conteted time passed. I highly recommend reading the book "Reclaiming a Stolen Herritage" by William McGurk. Talked about the entire dispute and how deveous robert lister was in how he went about stealing the cheiftanship
@@dogwoodrawks Thanks for this. I've ordered the book!
I did live on the island but I moved and I'm a macneil I'm Eirinn macneil of barra
maiden name MacNeil. understand the klan was a bunch of murderous raping mad men. nice to know I come from such great stock
You mean Clan,? and yes the the “klan” from the US definitely was, but they were also English and Protestants
This could have been very enjoyable. Alas, the camera move through everything so fast it made me dizzy watching. Couldn't get past the 5 minute mark. Really a shame.
