Getting the Aquarium Ready for Power Outages.
มุมมอง 72หลายเดือนก่อน
Last week I reached out to Telegraham about helping me with a battery back up for my aquarium. He in turn introduced me to Kalamazoo Reefer. I watched some of his videos on TH-cam about the Eco Flow Batteries, then he answered many of my questions. I am happy to say I took his advice and this video, with more to come, will share that journey. If you want a more technical explanation and in dept...

How I get my coral to stay on the glass
Tank looks great!
Thank you. It’s been a rough year. I am not “out of the woods” yet but it’s close, I hope. I have been so discouraged as I lost some amazing corals this year and I have not wanted to try to replace any. I hope that I can start maybe January. I don’t want to go too fast.
I love all the Montis on the back glass. Looks good.
Thank you!
You’re welcome
Your yellow is not happy at all
They once in a while would jockey for pecking order. That has long been determined and no more aggression. Not even during feeding.
Hang in there mate my tank went through the same thing for about a year but now looks very good
Thank you. I have a way to go but it’s getting there
Such amazing little creatures 😊😊😊😊😊
They almost dance as they swim
I got a green goblin grows like knotweed😂😂😂 I do find tho any part that doesn't get light turns a pale brown colour
I constantly trim mine and give away frags. (I’ve been waiting until the dinos are completely gone to give away more) I have not run into to much brown as I drag it alot
Thanks ! Really like this series ! Frequent updates would be awesome . Maybe try adding a spotted female one day 😊
Thank you. I like sharing these too. I also love my Biota fish. (Just an FYI I am not sponsored by Bioto, or anyone else for that matter). I have thought about spotted mandarin many times but I like the green aka psychedelic mandarin too much. Also I won’t get other dragonets as I want my GM to have access to all the food source without competition.
Very Cool. I look forward to future updates & thanks for sharing . 😊
I will be doing part 2 today or tomorrow
Do you have any experience ordering from liveaquaria?
I ordered from them years ago before they were bought out. I don’t really know anything about them now that they are under new ownership. Sorry I can’t help.
@@mr.reefsafe9186thanks for your reply. Have you had any bad experiences with biota? Do you plan to quarantine the fish beyond the acclimation?
I personally have never had a problem with biota fish. I have also never quarantined a biota fish. IMIO (in my inflated opinion) they don’t need to be. Biota is not going to raise fish on a system that will have parasites or disease. IF IF IF I were to get a biota fish from a 3rd party I would definitely quarantine it.
I literally just got my box of 2 tangs and a regal angelfish from biota! Received at noon here in Houston, Acclimating them now! Good luck with your new fish!
Thank you. You too!!
I have been trying to figure out what I have in my sand bed It looks identical to what you have ..Now I know.I have white sand also so it's super visible. What exactly is a tell sign that it's Dinos? What made it obvious?I had the most difficult time figuring out what it was until I saw the color of yours ..
Is there any way you can calibrate this equipment if you’ve bought it secondhand?
As far as I know, and I have checked, no. There is no way to calibrate a Hanna checker or master checker yourself. Here is the number for Hanna: (401) 450-6051 They will help you to set up a servicing for your devices.
Glad to see your Cuban Basslet is alive!
Wish i knew someone who did this. I'm gonna try to make a mini culture of this.
One gallon cultures are great and easy to do. Also consider a 2 liter bottle. A bit smaller but also easy and super cheap to set up
I regret purchasing the Neptune Auto Feeder. The design is flawed, especially when it comes to removing the container. The lid is the part you have to pull on to remove the container, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Every time I try to refill or clean it, the entire container tilts or jerks, inevitably spilling food everywhere-right into my tank! This poor design causes more mess and stress than convenience. It’s incredibly frustrating and completely defeats the purpose of an auto feeder. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this product.
I agree with most of what you wrote. It definitely has flaws and issues galore. This needs to be one of the products the retool. That being said I still like it (I do understand it’s not for everyone). I use a big bowl under it when I am working on it or take it down. These steps make the mess…less but not completely without a little frustration. This is a “C-“ product for most reefers.
I learned my lesson when I touched that shit
I completely understand. I have touched too many over the years and accidentally touched one this week. When this happens I cover it in superglue. A good, thick amount. Once dried, as long as it’s fairly thick, it’s easy to peal it off bristles and all.
@@mr.reefsafe9186tbh i was just picking creatures but I try not to hurt them and the god-damned sea cucumber made the bristle worm's bristle made it deeper because of the sticky stuff
❤👏👌🤙❤
Great info. Thanks
Thank you
Love the scape. Dinos are the most frustrating thing in the hobby IMO.
In your opinion! In my opinion. In most everyone’s opinion that has what to deal with it. Thank you. I love the scape too
Glad to see the golden cuban basslet is alive and well!
Me too. I had a few fish die due to dinos so I am very happy it made it.
Did you ever do part 2 of the roticlean vs the basic filter floss kit from reef nutrition? The comments were disabled and I couldn't find it. Was wondering which you thought was best and if the roticlean filter is worth it vs the basic kit
I did more than a dozen videos on phytoplankton and rotofers. I did a few different filter mediums for rotofers but it was a couple years ago and not sure what ones I did. I don’t culture them anymore as the place I was renting the AC died and the landlord didn’t want to replace it. After the 4th repair and failure again I was done losing all my cultures, corals and live rock I was culturing
Hows your Cuban Basslet doing? Im thinking about ordering one
It’s doing awesome, despite my issue with dinoflagellates. They did kill a few of my fish as they released toxins into the water but the CB didn’t seem to even notice
Are they aggressive with fairy wrasses in a 55 gallon?
In my experience, no. I cannot say they will all be model citizens, but the ones I have had have been good
How fast do they grow ?
Mono’s grow fairly fast. Not an ideal candidate for smaller tanks.
That is a great color contrast with the green! Is that a green digitata as well?
Thank you. I do love the contrast. Great at Halloween for sure. The green one in the back is either Spongoties or anacropora depending on which “expert” you ask. Imio (in my inflated opinion) it is Anacropora
@@mr.reefsafe9186 😆 awesome!
Dude these fish are awesome, I can't wait to get one! 😊
I absolutely love mine!
Good luck!
Thank you
Amazing! I have 2 biota yellow tangs. Got them a month ago & doing great. I have them in a 50 gal AIO tank, with corals. Do you think they will be good in the tank for the next year or two?
Hi. I’m happy to give my opinion on this matter. First I’ll say it is a difficult issue as tangs in any aquarium is a “hot button” topic. IMIO (in my inflated opinion) a 50 gallon aio is too small. Keep in mind that 50 is the overall volume. You need to subtract the sand, rock, filtration area and a small amount for the top of the tank (where the water is under the lip). Also many tank manufacturers will say “50 gallons”, or __ gallons when it is really less. I’m my cast I have a 180 gallon waterbox, HOWEVER, the Maine display is only 130 gallons and I have to account for sand rock coral and an overflow box… it’s likely 115 gallons when all of that is calculated in… 🫤 1. How many hiding places they have. The more the better!!! 2. How much free swimming area is there? The next thing is how many fish you have and what kinds of other fish you have. 1. Having similar fish can cause more aggression. 2. Having only 2 tangs in a, let’s face it, small tank, will definitively cause more aggression as they grow!! 3. The sex of the tangs. 2 males. A LOT of aggression!! 1 male 1 female. A lot of aggression towards the female. 2 females, best case scenario but still aggression. As to how long you can safely, well cared for, keep them there. Less than 6 months. Yes they could be there for life BUT remember Sea World keeping Orcas for life… not good for anyone especially the orca. No matter what you choose I will not get on your case BUT I would urge you to consider giving them up if you cannot provide a much bigger habit for them.
I just started culturing phytoplankton for the first time and I'm unsure what to look for if things go wrong. at the bottom of my tank it seems almost like "algae" growing so I'm unsure if this is correct? or do I need to increase the circulation with the bubbler?
It’s difficult to say for sure without seeing it but it SEEMS like it maybe phyto that has settled. Try increasing the bubbles/circulation. It should be like a steady boiling pot.
Do bullet Goby!
I’ll work on that one
Do you just top off after a harvest
Could you just top off?
In theory you “can” but you are very likely to crash the culture doing it that way
@@mr.reefsafe9186 thanks good to know hope to start one soon
Where did the "If detached from the filter, attach the filter leveling device to the bottom of the filter housing" go into the filter? It's not clear in this video and also on the company website...
Hi. I’m not following what you are asking. I want to help can you give more information on what you are wanting please
Thank you for sharing our store with others. We are always flattered when people enjoy the selection and setup of our corals and fish
I am sorry I only had a few minutes. I would like to do a more in depth interview and video sometime.
Does it work with guppies
I honestly couldn’t tell you
Great video! How often do you clean it?
Thank you. I clean it about once a year
what are you using for your waste line water holder? looks sharp.
It is a glass Voss water bottle. 900 ml.
My 3 do perfect in my 450 gallon mixed reef tank
I will agree to disagree with you. I would argue they are not doing perfect even in such a large tank. It is just not possible to provide them what they need in a home aquarium. “We” were able to keep Orca’s in captivity for decades. That doesn’t mean they had what they needed. Not even close. I am glad that yours are adaptable to their habit.
@@mr.reefsafe9186 what do I need to give them that I am not?
Sorry. I just saw this. When engineer “gobies” reach maturity they start to dig tunnels. These tunnels go 20’ deep in a 20-30 radius. This is not something most public aquariums could even mimic. On top of they the ones that could likely wouldn’t want to as the fish becomes reclusive at that point and hardly ventures out of its tunnel system
Love this❤
Fill me in some more pls
What do you want to know
Stirplate?
They can be gotten on Amazon
I’m gonna guess it don’t like were it’s at in the tank
Turns out it was low manganese and iron. One I upped the dosage it was “happy” again
Thank you
You’re welcome
Better off buying the testers individually. Takes way to long to do the tests on that unit
Well, you can only test one at a time, the amount of time takes the exact same. For me that is not a reason enough to get the other ones. However, if you only want to test a few of the parameters, then the other ones make more sense because you can spend less money to get them. I do recommend this because I really do it and the convenience of having it all together. It is personal preference and I’m good either way.
My point is, if you have the individual tests, you don't need to wait for one test to complete before you can start the next. We don't all have a spare day each week to test. Testing needs to be quick and easy
I see your point. I think the individual testers would be better as when it comes to Hanna I only use it for No3 Po4. No need to spend north of $450 for 2 tests.
GET ONE EVERYONE!!! My favorite fish I have atm super docile
What is the pump power?
The power source is AC. Just plug it into the wall outlet
I fitted marine sources, hang on overflow box its sealed and it gets full of vermited snails sponge all sorts un cleanable a change it over every year 99 dollors
I admit, I had to look this item up. Great option to make it easy to change out for sure. 👍🏻
They hard to find in California
I believe they are seasonal, however you can get captive breed ones from Biota
How could you replicate waves to produce oxygen in your house with that?
Good question, I think you could but it would be in such a small scale it wouldn’t really make a difference. It would also probably be messy BUT it’s an interesting idea.
@@mr.reefsafe9186 good point. I wonder how big it'd have to be elon might buy it 🤣
🤣
STOPPING you from a a nice weekend a week for me as 👇😓👍✔️
I am not sure what you mean. Sorry if I’m missing the obvious
Vast majority of people don't place these fish into appropriate environments. What a shame. Your temperature recommendations are wrong; on the high side. Mexican reef waters are cool; mid 60s to <low> 70s tops.
I had to do some deep digging on this. You are RIGHT! I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing that out. Like the Catilina Goby this fish is from cooler waters.
