I discovered Jojo by chance when looking at the Sonor website a few days ago and I stumbled upon his new drum pedal. Now I'm here listening to incredible drumming and great music.
i agree about it being visually better , but i think match grip makes things a lot easier. The point of traditional was to be able to hit the snare with ease do to the angle of its dangle ( been savin that one for the perfect occasion). once the snare was put on a flat stand i fell like traditional lost its point. maybe its cause i could never get the hang of it. it only works right for me when i play open handed.
this would take 42 to hours of hard ass work to program this into a computer, and he plays it away like its nothing. Thats why playing an instrument is essential to programming good music. You can do a lot of things with programming that you can't do with live instruments but the direct creative input from a live instrument is far more superior then that of a laptop or computer.
@morpheusdrummer1 I bought it. But the dvd is only about hand technique. And the most of it is allready on youtube but its a great dvd! it really helpt my handspeed a bit and my understanding of how importent the physics of every litle action in drumming is!.. Benny Grebs dvds on the otherhand where more helpfull too me about feeling/grooving and learning rudiments with his own litle very cool system that he made! I strongly recommend both dvds to all real seriously drummers out there.
@billo008 Faster by NO means is better. I'm a huge math rock fan, so I love Hella. But if you watch Jojo's DVD, you'll see shit Zach could never do, speed-wise. Jojo's heel-toe is way better than Zachs, as well as, like you said, his overall technique... It sometimes pains me to watch Zach, because he is so stiff and such a heavy hitter. Regardless, his style is still weird as hell.
@billo008 I am a drummer too, and yes i think that zack Hill has a more wierd style going on!!!, but not faster or more difficult to count than Jojo. Actually i think his rhythms are way easyer to figur out than Jojo.. But not easy at all. And i allsoo think that he is a very fast drummer!! if you havnt seen Jojo mayers dvd a will strongly recomend it. Sorry for my bad english.
That keyboard solo section at the end is sooooo alive
Whatever happened to Gabriel Ashford who made this snare drum?? Does anyone have her contact info?
This one sounds great...and the Sonor Set also....but it,s up to the Player....cool ;-)
is anyone else trying to transcribe this song perfectly
With ore without you, Headphones are overrated.. Version sounds so live here, so much energy

"I can't play like this, there is a delay in my headphones. Okay f#@k it, I'll play without them." - Champ.

Gut gespielt! Ich würde gerne die Snare und dein ganzes Set in einer besseren Audioqualität hören!
make it stop. best solo i ever heard him play on that outro..
Geez- this is so Tony williams Lifetime shit..
I have never had headphone when I play out live, I need to start.
Protect your hearing. Get in-ears if you're playing live a lot.
whoever disliked this needs to be executed.
what kind of person could dislike this video?
Yesterday I saw him live , NOBODY is allowed to say he's good , why ? BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN HIM LIVE U CAN'T TELL :)
would you look at this.. that's why I still remember about jojo mayer and nerve after all those years:p
Jojo should get together with Boards of Canada for a couple of tracks.

that foot work on the hi hats with the accents placed in the same places ..is what puts jojo in that top echelon of drummers
finally may i say Sir Mayer you don't need head monitors to play good :)
now this is a true musician, not stropping coz it not right, just getting on and enjoying it, and creating some great music!!!

does anyone else think that jojo sounds like niko bellic from gta 4?
I'm from Croatia. For this kind of attitude our people would say that he's "Baja". That's a superlative for awsome :)
@Nimaz99 O.o???????? you need open your ears alittle more man
@Thomlistentoslayer love jojo mucho but that accusation of buddy could be wrong.. its different time zone dude.. with all due respect..
Didn't know Howard Stern played drums... Excellent sticking (especially during traditional grip).
AWESOME timing! isn't this the same guy that sings manamana??
his technique is perfect...
@TheBenCube stage lights are super bright annoying. and the lights in my eyes used to make me sneeze haha

@TheBenCube I think you were never on the stage - thats why
