      Thank you @nobodysrage !! Ya well.. there’s a whole lot going on at the same time.. I’m glad that computer processors run so fast nowadays to handle that kind of stuff… we think of 48000 Hz sampling rate as fast but with processors running at several gigahertz, it can run loops around the 48kHz… so doing all this together is still an easy job for the computer 😀

      Oh the CS-80 is fun too! And yes normalizing the audio would take an extra pass through a video editor as it will look at the entire recording to find the loudest part. Raising volumes in OBS has bitten me a few times, it can easily clip, so I rather do it after the fact.

    Time is very interesting, but going back and forth between presets to sync it is rather odd, sadly. Great ideas in here, and every time I see F_RFM I am thrilled as my initials are RFM :)

    • @hansholema4740

      Well, the point is, minutes and seconds have something sync to, according to the clock, but what would the milliseconds have to sync to exactly? not to a second unless you want that... What I switch the presets for is, that when a presets 'starts', all counters in there are reset and they all start at the same time... I might have a look and see if I can put some button in there to reset, don't know if I'll have enough space to put extra inputs in there... at some point it's a question of fighting with the amount of space everything takes... But so RFM in itself creates a connection huh ?? :-D

    • @rayderrich

      I would really expect a reset button on the Time module itself, yes.

    • @hansholema4740

      @@rayderrich still, if you would have 2 or 3 TIME modules running at the same time, then a button would not work.. then with one input on each you could hook up a cable and send a gate/trigger to all of them to then reset all together... so I'll see what I can do :-)

    • @rayderrich

VCO to the input of the filter and create a bass for instance. Then copy that part and go on to the next section, like a sequence running on top of the bassline... It's mostly a matter of thinking in the separate layers that will together create the 'background music' - then in the end a couple of modules that I can use as a lead line and all od the stuff goes through a panner into delay and reverb and that's it.. This is without any doubt one of the best and most complete tutorials on how a basic oscillator works. Nothing was new to me but still I kept on watching the entire video just to study and bewonder how well this all has been explained. Great work! Since I am only interested in trying out your modules that either give or manipulate sound it would be nice if you would release a second, smaller bundle with for instance only the oscillator, filter and FX and maybe with a few modules that actually can't be missed to get the entire characteristic feel of your "Formant Eco System" . Or just let us choose and sell each module individually. Maybe with some loyalty/discount plan? Whatever, I would certainly immediately purchase your oscillator and your filter. Have a great weekend and keep up the wonderful work!

      Hey Greg - great to hear!!! Thanks!!!! Ya I was hoping to be complete'ish'.. there might always be more to say but hoped indeed to have covered as much as I could think of 🙂 I will consider creating 'split' bundles, although at the moment I'm only focusing at the full bundle... And all of the extra modules were created because I needed them while creating patches, sound and music... I will actually start working on 2 synth percussion modules, because I need too many separate modules to create those sounds so I want one module with kick, snare and hihat and another one with toms and cymbals. I am also working on separate tutorial videos that will focus on each module (while still using the other modules of course) Thanks again!!!!!

      @@hansholema4740I downloaded the demo of your Formant bundle. I will study it all thoroughly. Great that you grant me 14 days to do so. After trying out the oscillator, filter and ADSR I already know that I will defintely purchase those 3 modules. ADSR is snappy and has no clicks like most envelopes do have. So that is great! I also like your reverb's sound. Like a plate but different, not great but very charming and at short settings it turns out to be a very charming chorus as well. However I am fronsing my eyebrows a bit when I try to understand the relation between the time setting (1 ms max?) and the reverb tail. There's no relation at all. So I reckon the time knob probably relates to size? Same goes for your offset knob in the delay module: there is no relation between what I hear and what I see although the knob is about the offset between left and right. Are you planning to make some changes to this? That would be nice. All in all my first impression on this bundle is very positive. It's great to have this poly module and the MIDI split thing. Haven't tried those out yet. I have similar modules already by CA, Andrew MC.... and Weevil but in the end it's also nice to have a rack with modules that come from the same family. Brings me into some virtual space where everything looks nice and organized. So yes! This could be a good reason to keep the bundle as it is. Compliments!

I saw the Formant live on stage during a concert of a school band (back in 1978) and I loved its sound so much. And the guy who played and built the synth was my hero. I was a brugpieper back then and the guy was in his last year at school. But his little brother was my classmate so I did get a chance to visit the guy and his Formant. A year later I got my first synth: MS-20 and I loved that one too but it didn't sound as gorgeous like the Formant did. Even the Mini Moog didn't come close to what I remembered from that evening. He played a solo in C minor, very pentatonic, so the rest of my younger years I only played in C Minor until I started playing in bands where everything was in A or E and sometimes D Minor. So if I wanted to play a solo I asked everyone if we could transpose to C Minor, hahahaha. Never really happened I am afraid until I got my own band.

      Hi, I'm afraid at the moment it is cosmetically and function-wise.. I do own a Formant myself but have not dared to power it on because it has been switched off for at least 20 years... The modules are not for sale yet but as soon as everything is up and running I will sell the complete bundle on the Cherry Audio website - the bundle is created to be used in their Voltage Modular.. although it is 'only cosmetically built as a Formant I find that the way of creating sounds works the same way so I tend to get at least comparable sounds... Apart from that, adjustments for my system could easily differ from yours which would affect sounds... Even two mini moogs don't sound the same 🙂

    It reminds me of Tomita. Lovin' it

      And I love Tomita so thanks!!! I'm thinking of making some mp3s with classic music in styles of Wendy Carlos and Tomita... I built my Formant in '77... so in the middle of that type of music - it's really suited for that... so will try if I can do something like that...

      Hi Damian - the idea of the movie was not to show HOW to make some sound, but as a 'proof of concept' to show that the Formant that I am trying to rebuild as a software synthesizer is indeed working... and to give some samples of its sound...

      When the series is ready and available for sale in the Cherry store, I will make tutorial movies... If at some point people need a movie to explain how to create a specific sound, I can always try to create such a movie that shows what sort of modules to use.. Some sounds can be 'predicted' in the sense of knowing what waveforms and effects etc to use...

    Longed for a Elektor Format for years and glad to see them for Voltage Modular. Are they already for sale on the store?

      hehe good to hear Temme, but normally I would be (at least ia bit) more structured in my music or soundscapes.... This felt quite messy 🙂

Gevleugelde woorden toch? 🤣🤣🤣

      Man man. 😮
