TRIP REPORT | Is Starlux Airlines still excellent? Taipei to Singapore on an Airbus A350-900
มุมมอง 2.5K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I flew Starlux Airlines (星宇航空) for the 4th time from Taipei to Singapore, after a stopover from North America. I've had rave reviews before and I found this flight a good experience, with excellent cabin crew and well-maintained equipment. Also, I got to fly the best jet that they could offer on this route: the Airbus A350-900. You may have seen the previous review where I flew to Taipei on an ...

First video of 2025 (with subs not burned into the video) Singapore Airlines and Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific are among some of the best airlines in the world today and they're brand names of their city-states. I was lucky to have the chance to try them on my recent trips and decided that I'd compare them to see which one was better... ...and for that answer, you'll have to tune in! I'm curious a...

Starlux is probably the best airline in the world right now. And even if it isn't, it's hard to argue that they aren't unique. Because they are. And then it hit me - they've probably had the time to do their research on fine tuning their product even when the world was hit with a global crisis. The result? A...

Would you choose BA if you were to fly that route again, personally I would choose SQ
SQ offers better service, but CX offers better biz seats and lounges.
Why stopped does lunch on that flight ✈️ for I think ba is a good plane
BA used to offer a lunch service at the end of the Singapore Flight, They stopped it as people complained it shouldn’t be lunchtime 😂
flown sin - hkg on both carriers. SQ has a lower crew to passenger ratio making them more attentive. there is also more drink runs on SQ and there is more proactiveness from SQ crew based on multiple flights on this sector that i have taken on both carriers. free wifi also makes SQ superior.
I've taken many flights to Spore from LAX and SFO on Singapore and United. Next month will take my 1st on Cathay Pacific but on 777-300ER. Flown on the 350 when Hong Kong Airlines flew to North America. Free Wifi was a plus on Singapore Air. Enjoyed the video.
Yeah being half Singaporean myself living in UK where i do go back to SG often (twice a year though my partner who is HK i have being flying to HK and SG via CX and I have to say that the overall service provided on CX is my preference over SQ. I actually once took a SQ long haul flight from London to SG where i arrived around 6pm (T3) where i went straight to my mates place at Marine Parade and had a makan (meal) and drinks at joo chiat where i later took a CX flight to HK that night (1.30am, T4 ) so instantly I could see how different the service. Ever since that I have just been flying straight to HK then SG
The newly refurbished cabin was nice and I like the IFE system especially the map.
I fly to the Philippines every November from Copenhagen..I always use Singapore Air,I love the company and wouldn’t dream of using anyone else..Last November I was going to use Qatar Air,but at the last minute chose Singapore Air because I have never had any problems..I love Changi Airport mainly because I know it so well ..I’m too old to start learning new routes to the Philippines .To me Singapore Air is the best in the buisness
recently flew CX and SQ long haul within a week, CX is clear winner but SQ is above average. The crew on Cathay is just more professional but SQ crew is more friendly. SQ food portion is bigger but CX food is nicer.
next summer i'm coming from europe and i'll stop in yul to go to lax, what does "preclearance equipped airport" mean? thanks!
It means that there is a US customs office at YUL, and you clear customs there. In LAX you skip customs (and in LAX US Customs is... a lot, on account of all of the international flights it receives) and arrive at a domestic terminal and go straight to baggage claim and leave. The downside is that after clearing US Customs in YUL (or any Canadian airport with US Customs pre clearance) you're stuck in this US departures area which is amenity poor compared to the rest of the airport.
It means the airport has a US Customs facility. In your case you clear US immigration in Montreal. Then you arrive in the US as if you're a domestic passenger. Faciltiies wise I agree with spartancanuck, it isn't great. But if your connection is 2 hours or less it doesn't matter too much. I suggest using the Mobile Passport Control app to expedite your entry
make the music louder next time, i almost heard a word or two from your voice over.
Will do!
Hello, may i know how long the immigration check in HCM airport? I also have a connecting flight domestic-international from Da Nang to Jakarta. Thank you!
Could be around 39 minutes to an hour so plan to get there ahead of time!
I fly alot and I mean alot on leisure ...last year alone I flew 52 flights ard the world from Singapore...I flew Starlux since it's started flying to Singapore post COVID and I flew all their classes from economy to premium economy and business class on both their a330 neo and a350s! I am not being bias as an avgeek I can say they are good BUT this is why after already I believe nearly eight flights on them I won't fly them anymore at least not in the foreseeable future! Why? Here are a few reasons! 1. Their return flights to sgp I esp freaking early and only one flight! 2. Their service and product whilst good is a little too robotic! Even in business class I nvr felt I was being taken care for ...3. I hate the fact that they even in business class has themes! Hello it's business class not economy! 4) their screen is so reflective and their movies cannot compare to SQ and their soft touches are not as well executed as SQ and 5) they are not with star alliance or any frequent programs so I already lost a lot...yes they are rumoured to join one world by next year but I can't keep losing my points and not enjoy my status...finally their airport and DON'T get me wrong I love Taiwan been there at least four times last year and have two awesome close pals there but even they as Taiwanese would say Ray don't even go there as far as their airport is concerned. It's terrible in it's layout and just one of the worst when compared to major asian cities...I am not biased we all know Changi is always right at the top in APAC if not the world...
So you'd say SQ is better than JX ?
@ishaanrevankar492 in a nut shell yes ..I get more value and service from SQ ...at least with EVA I get better becos EVA is part of star alliance
I agree with that reflective screen bit! Otherwise I do think they have the ability to give Singapore airlines a run for their money
@dexplorer_vids one thing they need to do quickly with frequent flyers is to get to board with one world since Eva is with star alliance and china airlines is with sky team...also unlike SQ both Eva and starlux don't have unique uniforms such as our brand by french designer the sarong kebaya is a world renowned branding...and in business class the unique satay for starters! Even our hot towels in economy are branding on her own...
Wow! This airline is really putting the top level higher. I can't barely wait to fly with them. Maybe from BKK to Taipei.👍👍👍
We flew to San Francisco 30nov24 and return 14dec24. United is the worst airlines. The food is miserable and it is too little for a 14 hours. The spare to serve should be reviewed. We will never fly United again. The airfares are not the lowest. No more
Yes agreed, the food is much to be desired!
Very useful chronology and overview of each of these airlines. I found the audio to be very poor quality and hard to understand at times.
Thanks!! As for the audio, that's my bad. I'll get around to fixing it for a future iteration
They should give you a really good Japanese food option.
Yeah they could have more Japanese options!
Cathay pacific economy class varies with the aircraft. Their old 777-300 is the worst economy product. Seats are so narrow and screen so small.
CX is out on the list since there are passengers from China. Now CX is one of them. Out!
i have a flight jan 12
Chi-town ? Really

How many times do you need to measure space between knees and what’s in front of
Personally as a Hong Konger, I truly love both SQ & CX, but if I can choose I would choose SQ, for how I served on my long haul route from SIN-CDG, for the service on board, the food & overall flight experience. But even as much as I love both, STARLUX really defines luxury in all classes, they are truly above & beyond.
Personally, I usually prefer SQ over CX as I drawn to the character and uniqueness of SQ’s sense of luxury and elegance even in Economy class. However, I do notice that post pandemic, SQ has changed towards a not-so-good direction i.e. losing its elegance and charm. For instance, the in-flight SQ meal presentation in Economy class for short distance did not look as elegant anymore with small takeaway cardboard box meal, cheap cutleries, poor-looking components, and tiny budget-designed meal tray. Previously, regardless of flight duration, the in-flight meal presentation looks premium and aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the on-board physical menu booklet in Economy class on every seat pocket have unfortunately gone missing or replaced too which is what I look forwards to whenever I took flight.
Yes sadly those have all gone.... makes the airline feel less premium
The cardboard containers were controversial but solid. Anyway aren't they already gone? I hadn't seen them on my flights last year.
Bad format of comparison, audio is really bad!
Thanks for feedback, I'll improve it for next one.
Based on your comment you don’t understand the difference between potatoes and tomatoes, so you need much more than “better audio”😂
I still prefer SQ although CX is still good...but other airlines such as starlux ana Jal EVA are just as good if not better than CX...I fly alot on leisure ..in 2024 I flew 52 flights including 16 business class 2 first class and 5 premium economy...I dare say I don't really care much for the middle east carriers primarily for two reasons ...it's always halal meals and unless I fly there as a final destination I hate the layover in weird hours of the night and it sure is rough for the body even in business class! And yes I am bias a little when comparing CX to SQ after all I am a star alliance member and not one world plus I love SQ though during COVID and just after COVID they were so bad until the CEO had to admit late 2023 that they need to improve...now they are back! ❤But overall asian carriers are def better than their western counterparts!
Yes agreed, I tried Starlux, ANA, JAL etc...all good. Singapore Airlines is also much better than a lot of their western counterparts...
Broken headrest and broken power outlet sounded sad because the plane wasn't very old. Hope to see the retrofitted version of BA's A380
I am Hong Kong local I like Singapore airline a bit more....I still like CX but Singapore 😍🤩
Singapore Airlines is a great way to fly at any time !
Cathay Pacific Airline's service is good. However, the quality of the passengers are the worst so far! I had the worst 15 hour flights with Cathay
I had that 11 hours from Hong Kong to Canada those were cheap and unbelievale passengers (2023 summer)
bro as hong konger, hong kongers are weird. I reclined my seat after reached cruising (it wasnt even meal service yet) and the people behind me started cussing in canto for being a spoilt brat who think hes in business
That is unfortunate, I guess I'm lucky I never experienced it on my flights!
SQ was once the best for IFE now I’d say it’s bang average. Cathay is way better with over 800 English languages movies compared with Singapore’s meagre 180 most of which are modern day utter Hollywood garbage
My two favorite airlines ❤❤
Very very honest take from a Singaporean, which is rare and really appreciated. I'm about the only other Singaporean that dont think SQ is the best is the world, they're still very good just not as good as CX, JL, NH, QR and EK.
SQ is just mediocre at best
True! Starlux now has taken over the mantle of luxury economy.

I recently flew on them from Oslo to Hong Kong- The service was very good, the rest? Meh... Plus, the "best in the world" Doha airport is just terrible. Crowded, disorganized, slow, and what is with ther 20-minute bus rides from the terminal to the plane?
Yes, the airport is really a pain point in the whole journey!

Love your content sir. Will be flying with sq to San Francisco in may 2025 but will definitely try starlux for future flights.
Starlux Airlines is Taiwan's most marketing-savvy airline, leveraging influencers to overshadow negative issues like flight delays.
@@張子凌-o7r oh for sure! I’ll look forward to covering them in my next video
The normal food on this route is one of the best I've seen on UA so far; and the Kosher meals were fantastic but it's sad to see how they're packed. Meanwhile, the lavatories are never cleaned inflight, no matter how badly smell it is; base on my experience with them.
@@TripReportaviation oh dear I didn’t realise that they don’t bother cleaning the bathrooms. But yes normal meals are ok, kosher meals are like that because of the religious reasons I guess
It's awesome that United are still producing their inflight magazine, unlike other profit driven airlines who use covid as a lazy excuse for avoiding having to supply a inflight magazine., love your awesome flight reviews there Dexplorer🛫👍
any snacks in between or by the galley?
Ah no but these can be easily requested from the crew and they do distribute these regularly throughout the flight
Why Starlux doesn't fly to Europe, South Korea, Mainland China & Australia? I assume they don't fly to Europe because of the restriction on Russia & Middle East airspace.
@@NADIFPUTRA_787_9 possibly although I think they are trying to grow sustainably. If it’s the airspace they have a workaround through BKK like EVA Air, but then that’s not very convenient…
