Bach’s Prelude and Fugue No. 18 in G# Minor, BWV 887, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II
In this video, I’m revisiting one of my all-time favorite pieces by Bach: the Prelude and Fugue No. 18 in G# Minor, BWV 887, from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II. I've had this piece in my repertoire for over ten years, though I haven’t played it in at least five. It feels wonderful to dive back in and bring my own perspective to a work that’s been interpreted so beautifully by many others.
I'm not a specialist in historically informed performance-throughout my studies in Russia, I played a bit of harpsichord and organ, but I was never really drawn to them. Yet, I absolutely love Bach! He's one of my favorite composers, both to play and to listen to. By the way, do you also have a difference between composers you love to play and those you just love to listen to? 😅
So, while my interpretation might not be “correct” by historical standards, I feel confident that I’ve put my heart into it and given my best. I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it!

In this video, I share my journey with one of Alexander Scriabin’s hidden gems, the Fantasy in B minor, Op. 28. This piece is a relatively new addition to my repertoire, and I am currently diving deep into its rich layers to uncover the endless interpretative possibilities. The Fantasy is a true masterpiece-complex and intense-allowing for many unique interpretations that can bring out the extr...

A concert of six composers, several of whom almost literally fought each other in their lifetime. Well, the music itself doesn't show the animosity.
This is one of my favourite piano concertos! Great job!
Amazing
Absolutely amazing transcription ❤
i am happy if you liked it!
I like BWV 846, 881, 988 and Brandenburg concerto no 3 BWV 1048 is one of my favorites too.. have you played Harpsichord? , really.. It must have been very good to experiment with that instrument.I like the sound of harpsichord. Although I have never experienced with one... Well , Usually the music of the composers I like is the same music that I am interested in playing, although sometimes they are difficult pieces for me...Bach’s repertoire is very large and I don’t remember having paid much attention to this piece until now (887)... ✨ but it really is great, now I see, 🎹⭐your interpretation sounds amazing
thank you for such a deliberate answer! it was a pleasure to read it!
The theme is excellent, it evokes a lot of emotion. 🎬 nice interpretation,Daria!
i am happy if you liked it!
@pianistdariavasileva thank you 🙏 🎹🎶🩵⭐
I love your transcription! It would be nice to play some Brahms on that concert piano though. 😊
oh, definitely!
, I like it too. I paid it very slowly and sadly
I know this one but I don’t want to be the smart arse that gets in first ☹️🤫 aaargh THE internal conflict within . It would be GREAT if there was a DICTATOR telling me what to do ..
hahahahah I absolutely love your answer!!:) such a great movie, isn't it?
@ it is and it makes me feel old knowing the answer . I was a bored kid on a Sunday unable to go outside cause of the weather watching old movies in the late 70’s.. I always thought that the MGM intro music had bits that sound the same as this song . Love your playing .
This was Scriabin’s favourite etude!
Bach is always something else... For me he's more than just a composer and his music is much more than just a music. I mean that fugue... It's like Heaven. His music the reason I've been listen to him each day of a last three years or so. It's make the world a little better and place. It's like some sort of meditaton to me. Even started to learn to play the piano as an adult. What a Devine Harmony, what a crystal melody and a mix of emotions. Thank you for your brilliant and emotional performance and may God bless you and your loved ones.
thank you for your infinite kindness! Bless you!
A very difficult etude! I've learned no.4 and no.7, but this one still scares me, It's really nice though.
i believe that the key for this one is to make some arrangements between hands, then it becomes a bit easier to learn and to enjoy!
lovely arrangement!
you are very kind!
I’m obsessed with this Etude. Along with Sonata 5, it hypnotizes me and lifts me out of this world. Two sides- touching to the core of the body and emotion while simultaneously removing me from worldly things. (great playing btw)
i feel you so much!
Дашенька, прекрасное исполнение, чувствуется этот строгий немецкий стиль, будто клавесин звучит 😍
спасибо тебе за доброту!!
Ah I would have loved to see this, but im away in uni right now… how come this never happened when I still lived in zurich 😢
where are you studying now?:)
@@pianistdariavasileva I’m in the UK studying in Bath right now, I’ve only been away for two months but I’m already missing stuff in Zurich 😅. Good luck with your concert!
Quelle jolie interprétation ❤
Beautiful✨🎶✨
Thanks for listening!
Very Strong. Your German accent is WORKING! 😉
😂😂
Brava❤
You’re very kind!
Beautiful, very emotional. Thank you for posting!
Thank you, you’re very kind!
That fugue is a masterpiece!
Absolutely!
I like it how you interpret
You’re very kind!
Gratulacje!
I know the feeling LOL!
Music truly transcends borders
Very original! Is there a full version?
coming soon!
I'm not a specialist in historically informed performance. ⠀ Throughout my life, I’ve played a bit of harpsichord and organ (while studying in Russia), but I was never truly attracted to these instruments. ⠀ Yet… I love Bach. He's one of my favorite composers, both to play and to listen to. By the way, do you also have a difference between composers you like to play and those you like to listen to? 😅 ⠀ So, I’m not confident that my interpretation is “correct” in historical terms. But I am confident that I managed to put my soul into it and tried my best. ⠀ And whether you like it or not… I guess that’s just a matter of taste. :)
Sounds incredible!
happy to hear that!:)
That was exciting to listen to!🌹
happy to hear that!:)
I love the style of Bach music , the Baroque period is one of my favorites...It is very exciting to see and hear this piece. 🎹⭐✨🕯️ The touch and execution you give it is incredible 👏
you are very kind!
Eine Schönheit wie ein musikalisches Naturerlebnis 💯💫
Schön gesagt!
Klasse !!!!
Lovely. Our favorite theme. You and it deserve a more tuned piano.
i agree :)
Any tips on playing Bach's jesu joy of mans desiring. I struggle with Bach's voicing always
which arrangement are you playing? i haven't played any, but maybe i'll still be able to help
@pianistdariavasileva imm playing myra hes's version
very impressive double trilling !
that is nice to hear - it is very painful haha :)
Easily one of my favorite Scriabin pieces.
Скучно ему)
no piece portrays passion as great as this one and you interpreted it with passion indeed💯
i am thrilled to hear that!
😻😻😻
Erstaunt ebenso wie alles erglänzt unweiter will im Klang.
This piece is tonally rather overloaded, with a sustained forte that would possibly be more audible in an adequately orchestrated form. It's often too noisy for piano. I, at least, would play it in a much more graduated, ‘piano-friendly’, audible, acoustically less stressful way. But despite its unquestionable mastery, it's not my kind of music.
I can totally understand your opinion!
@@pianistdariavasileva Thank you and, by the way, it was not a criticism of your playing, but remains a matter of taste with such excellently trained pianists. Personally, I am much more in favour of Chopin's opinion of avoiding sustained forte in the piano - also contrary to the composer's instructions in such musical works, for example. And I bow to your dedication.
@@Cherzad-Semojait’s soooo nice to read an objective and constructive feedback , even if it’s partially negative :)) so I thank you for this! All the best to you
@@pianistdariavasileva Oh thanks so much too, how strikingly enchanting. Wish you all the best even more
Can you publish your transcript? It is so tragically beautiful.
thank you so much for your interest! it is actually published (digital version) - you can find the link in the video description. All the best to you!
🎹⭐🙌
I must admit I was not familiar with this piece. But I’m so glad I subscribed so that it came up in my feed. Wonderful performance, Daria!!🌹
i am truly happy if you liked it!
So nice so talented !👏👌😍💐❤️🙏😘💐
Me encanta tu interpretación. Dicha obra es quizás una de las más complicadas de Scriabin. Bravo, Daria. ❤❤
gracias!:)
@pianistdariavasileva Un placer escucharte.
@pianistdariavasileva He escuchado una de tus composiciones sobre Scriabin, maravilloso. Soy estudiante de piano y me inspira seguir en el arte al verte tocar.
