We discovered that our old brand logo was not well-understood in the community (people didn’t know what MFCU stood for) and felt that M1 captured our commitment to Members FIRST. The more people understand who we are, the more members we will attract, and that’s good for all members because growth strengthens our credit union.

What even is M1?

Whenever an organization changes the look of its logo or brand, it takes some time to get used to and we appreciate that. Please know that the new brand came from a lot of discussion among staff/members who believed we could do a better job of telling the Members First story, of capturing our service culture, and of differentiating ourselves from other financial institutions. M1 is like a nickname-a snapshot that it’s all about putting the needs of members first. The more people understand who we are, the more members we will attract, and that’s good for all members because growth strengthens our credit union.

We know it can take time to get used a new look and feel of an organization that’s part of your daily life. We spent a lot of time in discussion with staff and members to find that look and feel that would better capture our vibrant culture and help Members First stand out. Whenever an organization changes the look of its logo or brand, it takes some time to get used to and we appreciate that. Please know that the new brand came from a lot of discussion among staff/members who believed we could do a better job of telling the Members First story, of capturing our service culture, and of differentiating ourselves from other financial institutions. That ‘retro-chic’ vibe in the logo was, in fact, intended to capture the spirit and energy of the ’70s, now updated to reflect a futuristic approach to financial services.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I am honestly surprised to hear that any members were asked anything about this because I am often at the Broadway branch in Mt. Pleasant and NOBODY ever asked me anything. It's like I said, an emailed survey, a questionnaire or maybe had you chosen a few different designs and had us choose option #1, #2 or #3, etc., I wouldn't feel so left in the dark about this major decision. I know opinions are not going to change anything here, but I have been banking with this CU since it was called Central Michigan Community Federal Credit Union, (or something long like that), and this is honestly the first time I feel so unheard. Our current logo and its color are fine. There are so many other areas Members First CU could have made very important and valuable adjustments. The logo was not it. A few years ago, I was in with a loan officer and we were discussing the logo. I remember thinking how cool it was that I had never noticed how the "F" in the current MFCU logo surrounds the entire thing. Maroon is my favorite color. I am honestly so sad to see this logo go. Such is life.

@@membersfirstmi your old brand did the same. Looks boring and unappealing now. So if that what your commitment is? Then you nailed it.
