    The problem comes once you put it on. I ordered 10 travel bags to try out and I liked this one by far the best when packing it. Was sure it was going to be the winner, just had to not be the most uncomfortable thing in history when I put it on. Unfortunately it was, in fact, the most uncomfortable thing in history. And this comparison was mostly against other backpack duffels, not even travel backpacks. Stuff like the osprey transporter, patagonia black hole, etc. The Seg45 was SO much more uncomfortable than any of them. The main issue is that it sits REALLY high. I'm 6ft tall and the bottom of the bag was more than a 3rd of the way up my back. The "hip belt" was half way between my nipples and my belly button. This not only feels weird on your back, it causes the bag to tip backwards and pull a lot harder on your shoulders. There is also one lone piece of stiff material in the whole bag, which covers half of the bottom. If the bag is not JAM PACKED (I had it pretty packed, my not quite zipper exploding packed) then this piece crumples. It also happens to sit exactly where the bottom of the bag touches your back, so you've got this hard crumpled thing digging into your back right where the most pressure is. Felt like someone was jamming a fist into my back and just holding it there. It was actually remarkable to me how uncomfortable it was. Even compared to other backpack duffels.

      @This-Stylish-Life 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, no luggage passthrough unfortunately. You could potentially rig up the backpack straps to act as one, but I feel like this still wouldn’t sit great on top of a roller bag. You’d be better off with a sub 35L imo.

  • @buttsexandbananapeels
    @buttsexandbananapeels 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It needs compression straps at that price point. No way that zipper will keep it structurally sound for very long with a lot of traveling.

  • @centerpeel5123
    @centerpeel5123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The weight doesnt matter on this bag. If your airline restricts the weight for your carry-on then the size of the bag is too big for that airline as a carry-on anyway. When it comes to weight and comfort then the thing that matters most is how well the harness system works. This one is excellent as you demonstrated. Id rather carry this pack fully packed out than a 30L bag with a bad harness system. My zipper was super tight when i first got it too, but by the end of the trip it was fine. The zipper pulls did lose the shrink wrap and i will be looking to upgrade them i think. If you carry this bag you do need to have a plan for your tech if you have to check it. I carried a camera bag too that had a space for my laptop (made by wandrd). When i got to the airport, the matador got put inside an osprey airporter that i strapped on the outside of the matador with the compression straps. Then the camera bag got carried on with me. I think this is the best large carry-on that you can get. There are so many different ways that you can pack it and set it up for different trips. I love it.

      It’s continued to be a great pack. I’ve used it on a few more trips and it is holding up well with no issues. I think as a lightweight packable daypack the flexible back padding is better than anything else I’ve used in that class.

      @@azncargod689 Sorry for the late reply! I ended up looking into this and then forgot to reply. One of my favorites was the YNOT Deploy X that was made of X-pac and had dual water bottle holders. Unfortunately, it’s not discontinued, but you might be able to find it second hand. The one downside for it was that it lacked any internal structure, so it benefited from more careful packing to create structure. Other ones that I haven’t tried, but want to, are the AER Go Pack and the Waterfield Packable Backpack - if you want something that looks less outdoorsy. One other thing that I’ve been doing lately is using the ULA Dragonfly as one of our carry-on bags (usually with my son’s clothing) and then using it at destination as our daypack - it’s a good middle size that I think it fits both tasks well and is super lightweight.

      @@This-Stylish-Life no worries! I did try the beast 18, but found its shape wasn’t ideal for my carry and for a tablet. I returned it and picked up and Aer Go Pack 2. I have the same pair. I appreciate you're going to the full effort to soak to shrink. When I was a kid we took our raw/unsanforized denim and just washed it---hot, hung them till they were mostly dry, put them in the dryer to get out ALL of the shrink. This is heresy, of course but I'm here to say it works, there was no marbling or untoward marking. This "hard" wash gets out every last bit of shrink. The "trick" is to buy them not one but two sizes up. From your description you and I are the same size (I'm a bit shorter), mine were tagged 38 and are now a true 34. I think your method is by far safer but I think there is still some shrink left in those jeans---keep them on cold and don't put them in the dryer 'cause you will get more shrinkage.

    I like the bar soap holder works pretty well have had positive experiences with it. They also have a pocketable towel that apparently dries off pretty quick but they're too small and also prefer the regular thick towels, I can see a use case for it but too small. The pocket blanket is interesting that comes with its own built in stakes to keep in place and would be nice in theory to use at the beach, parks or in the woods?

    • @This-Stylish-Life

      Glad to hear about the soap case! I think I’ll put it to some use with camping this summer. I do often pack a towel on beach vacations, but I’m with you on that one that I prefer a full-size. My go to is the Outlier grid linen - packs small, but still highly absorbent. The blanket has an interesting use case too. Overall I’m happy we have companies like Matador that are pushing development of high-quality and lightweight travel accessories.

      I agree it’s not ideal, but this bag does carry the weight well especially if you are looking to max-out that carry-on size. • @udayshome1793
      @udayshome1793 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@This-Stylish-Life Yes, of course ... it's totally based on the individual's preference on fitment & weight distribution. I was just letting mine known. By and large, I think 7kgs is carry-on compliance safe-weight. If the bag is 2kg, you get 5 kgs of actual stuff. My Ospray Ozone 46's weight is 1kg which immediately allows me to add 20% more. But even then I don't carry the Ozone anymore. If I need to bring my laptop, I use my Minaal Carry-on 2.0 (1.4kg) Otherwise - which is most of the time - TNF Kuhtai 34 (800gm, good from treks), TNF Basecamp Duffel XS (970gm, best tying behind a scooter or tossing on top of a public bus), Tom Bihn Synapse 25 (822gm), Tom Bihn Smart Alec (860gm) for everything in between. Basically, if someone is using more than 35L, the carry-on only flexibility seems to fade. However, you can look into Gossamer Gear.

    • @This-Stylish-Life
      @This-Stylish-Life 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say it’s not great for long distances. There really is no internal structure beyond what you pack and the shoulder straps aren’t super padded. If you keep the bag light then it’s not bad, but generally I’ve been using it in duffel mode more often than not. I think the Matador GlobeRider is a much better option for a 45L pack if you’re going to be carrying it for extended periods of time. Or another option if you like the segmented organization is the SEG28, which I haven’t tried but I understand it has a more robust harness. Hope that helps!

      If you prefer a structured backpack and plan on carrying a laptop I think the GlobeRider is the way to go. Especially if you plan on actually carrying the pack for long periods of time. Caveat being to check the dimensions if you plan to fly on smaller local carriers and don’t want to check it. The SEG is lighter, but doesn’t carry as well in backpack mode - I prefer it as a duffel, but then your laptop is on the ground and there is less padding overall for tech. A third option, if you can squeeze in everything you need for 2 weeks, is the SEG28. I haven’t tried it, but my understanding is that its organization is functionally the same as the 45, but the backpack harness is more robust and structured. Let me know what you end up picking and have a great trip!

    Does a 16 inch macbook pro fit?

    • @This-Stylish-Life
      @This-Stylish-Life 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, it definitely won’t fit in the thin sleeve and I would say it likely wouldn’t fit in the pack altogether. If you’re looking to fit a 16” check out the larger version. You can tell it’s the bigger version with the d rings on the shoulder straps and the Velcro side pocket.

    Be careful with the straps, The woodland canvas bags have apparently been plagued with issues of ripping seams. Whomever they contracted this release out to dropped the ball.

      @FactFinderGeneral Hello, where did you get the information from? Do you have a Goruck “waxed canvas” backpack yourself? I also have an M22 in the Woodland version. I also have some problems with the seams here.

      Good to know, thanks. I just got my pack back from Goruck. They ended up sending a brand new bag, so hopefully no future issues. Definitely don’t want to have to baby a goruck bag! The warranty process went pretty smoothly, but I’ll keep the channel updated if I run into further issues.

      Looks like the venture, because the zipper is different in the Lite

      This is actually just labelled as Sling 7L on Bellroys site. Different from both the venture and the lite.

      The Rofmia Backpack V2 is probably the closest thing I’ve seen: en.rofmia.com/product-page/backpack-v2 Another interesting dyneema bag is the Mile One from Black Mile: blackmile.co I’ve never had the opportunity to check out either in person though unfortunately.

    This bag is a killer. I love it for work and travel. I removed the ice pick elastics and added S binder clips to improve the security on the zip. I also added a matador speed stash to the front for my phone and wallet. What makes this bag for me is the hip belt: it’s thick and super comfy. A 13 inch laptop also fits in the water bladder compartment. Only gripe is trying to get out things from the bottom. About to take mine on a one bag 8 day trip to Perth.

      Awesome, how was your trip?! I just got back from 3 weeks on the Gold and Sunshine Coast. It was great to escape winter for a little while. I agree the pack is super versatile and carries very comfortably- especially for a packable bag. I tried the speed stash and just never found it comfortable. But, it’s such a perfect addition that I wish it worked.
