Demonstrations of letterpress printing, foil stamping, die cutting and other production processes used to make wedding invitations, business cards and stationery. I might throw in an oddball video I thought would be interesting or that is one of my many hobbies.

My way of re-installing the brake drum return spring on a Honda Fit. I left out most of the cussing.

Boy, do I remember those! But no misfeeds? No bounces off the slow-down finger? I'm jealous!
It takes a little while to get it there, but it will fly on the right stock.
I have required this type of machine. Plz tell me where is it ?
I used to operate a platen at my father's printers. Nice to see one running
Hola Fireside. 27 noviembre 2022.
i remember standing next to one of those my grandfather ran. thanks for making a video of this. Never forget.
Thanks for watching! I’m probably going to re-record this one at higher resolution. Stay tuned!
I used to watch my grandfather do this for hours and hours. I also used to tap out rhythms on my knees to the old Kluge while my dad was out on deliveries. No wonder I became a drummer!
Well oiled sound that I really like
Very nice, I love letterpress work.
did you just glue the front/back together? Why not work/turn?
This one was two different stocks. White Lettra on the front and black Classic Crest on the back. Printing a large solid on letterpress is extremely difficult on a platen press. I won’t attempt it any more.
Nice 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Kluge started building feeders for the C&P'
In 1921. In 1931 Kluge introduced their own presses. You can a version the press in 2021. The open factory Kluge had a different cam for the gripper arms so they open faster. This made it easier for hand feeding.
This one was designed for hand feeding. It has a straight drive shaft and the cam change. I ran over 800 impressions today.
Nice! Thanks.
16 years old, 1st year apprentice in Melbourne Australia, I had to run one of these "HAND FED" was Shitting myself daily :( After about 6 months I got good & fast at it then progressed to the mighty heidleberg platen
Nice feeding - nice registration. Has OSHA ever called on you?

Do you have something on the rails to raise those rollers?
Yes I do. I cut strips of magnetic material and put them on the rails. I put two sided tape on the bottom too. Otherwise the trucks will shove them around.
As a longtime letterpress printer and former Kluge Sales Rep, I will say with absolute certainty, that no better automatic platen press was ever manufactured. It's versatility and overall capacity to produce quality printing on the most "difficult"and/or challenging jobs has never been excelled. This is especially true of the original "M OR LARGER 12"X18" SERIES" Jerry Polonsky, Jerry's Printing Service, Levittown, Pa.
When I got confident I could print 1000 No. 10 envelopes in one hour!
That's smokin'!
I didn't know Kluge ever made a press without the automatic feeder.
They sure did. These are not nearly as common as the Automatics. This particular press has a straight shaft for the flywheel, which indicates it was never made to have a pump. The timing of the platens are a bit different as well. The hand fed press has a period during the cycle where the platen stays open and doesn't move for a bit to allow the stock change. The Automatic platen does not have this rest time.
FiresidePrinting Thanks, I learned something today. Hey, I think (but not sure), didn't they make a separate automatic feeder that you could attach to a Chandler & Price or Colombia? I went out to their website a few minutes ago, I was surprised to see that they are still in business. Been 35 years since I was in the trade. I used to do camera and stripping and plate making for offset presses, also ran a few small presses, started on a Multilith 2550. Very similar to a 1250, but it was intended for very short runs, so it had a couple of dials that you could preset to stop when you had the number of copies you wanted. Also ran Chief 15 with T-51 second color unit and some trashy (fast, but wouldn't register to save their life) AB Dick stuff. I did do some letter press too, of course I ran Chandler & Price (who hasn't?) and for a couple of years I ran a Miehle Vertical at a check printing place.
I think they did sell feeders without presses for a while in the early days. Then they went for the whole shebang. I had a Multi 1250 for a while. It ran ok, but I never sold it enough to get good at it. I decided to focus on letterpress.
Actualmente tienes trabajo? Saludos desde Nicaragua.
No, not on uncoated stock.
Do you need to use a powder spray when you are printing? ?
