Put a Pedal Steel On It
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 ธ.ค. 2021
This channel is in part my practice journal. It documents my progress as I learn the pedal steel. I also hope to inspire interest in pedal steel and share how versatile and beautiful it is.
Send me a tune. I'll put a pedal steel on it.

Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground Pedal Steel
Happy Halloween, believers. This is a beautifully soaring solo played behind Willie Nelson. He takes his time the whole tune, and really weaves in and out of the vocals. Also uses a lot of single note lines.

Crying Time Pedal Steel

A perfect melodic recap here by Curly Chalker to Crying Time th-cam.com/video/VJPwfkosk60/w-d-xo.html He not only nails his solo, but does so in front of Ray Charles and Buck Owens. I think his tuning is set up differently than mine, because the first few moves I have to make are awkward compared to watching Curly play it live. Tennessee Whiskey Pedal Steel

A short live solo by Patrick Gulley to Tennessee Whiskey th-cam.com/video/NQaLJ4og-3c/w-d-xo.html What he plays is short and sweet. Patrick picks the right notes, lets them ring, and really exploits the characteristics of pedal steel. Consider liking, subscribing, and commenting if you enjoy these videos.
It's Five O'Clock Somewhere

It's summer and feels like the right time to learn Paul Franklin's solo on It's Five O'Clock Somewhere. It's pretty iconic and classic. His choices are simple but really add to every song he is on. The guitar was just for fun. Consider liking, subscribing, and commenting if you enjoy these videos.

Barely holding on here, to George Jones' My Baby Left Her Jinglin' John (For Foldin' Fred) th-cam.com/video/_j6I2NPidHw/w-d-xo.html I can't find who the steel player is on this tune, so please help me if you know. The tempo is so fast and they absolutely nail the solo. Consider liking, subscribing, and commenting if you enjoy these videos.

Learning a live solo by Paul Franklin to Bartender's Blues th-cam.com/video/06PxCc969Xg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Tk7c6UUJWLdxTTWi&t=130 Paul Franklin's sustain and lines are so smooth. More of his solos to come, and more George Jones (even though James Taylor wrote this tune, George really shined on it). Consider liking, subscribing, and commenting if you enjoy these videos.

Dude, FINALLY someone plays some Jones!! Any way you could play Rockin’ Chair??? 👀🙏
Would you ever help a steel player learn what you are doing in this passage? Awesome
I would be… what did you have in mind?
I guess for starters. What chord changes does the passage add to the original chords? Do you do lessons?
Good work. I would love to see the footwork but Ill take what I can get.
Thanks for mentioning footwork, I didn’t realize it was interesting to see. Will try to include.
Good touch
Nice👌🏻
Beautiful ❤❤
Kee going young man;👍
Beautiful song :0
I love this song :)
I need a full performance. I went looking for other covers but yours is the best.
That is really kind of you, thank you 🙏 This clip was somewhat impromptu, but I hope to have a full version of this to share.
why am i watching this at 5:00 o'clock?!?!
Fate??
That was sick
Thank you 🙏
Love this!❤
Where's a glass of wine to go with this?😊
This one is BYOW 🍷
I like this one!👍
Me too :)
Paul Franklin is a top dog and definitely the guy to imitate. Good job working on the solo.
I agree, he is a fantastic player, thank you.
Cover is absolutely sick but the ai art is an eyesore. Would love to just see your hands at work, you're clearly talented.
Thank you, that’s very kind. This one is a bit out of the ordinary for my channel, and I found it interesting to see how AI would interpret King of the Hill prompts. It was also a gift to my wife. You can expect to see the focus on the playing moving forward. But possible some outside the box videos from time to time.
good performance my friends!! Love your guitar sound🎸
Thank you
Beautiful
Thank you
My dad LOVED honky tonk country, and my mother was a classical lover. I think I found something I could have played for both of them❤ Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Wow, that is so genuinely sweet :) I’m happy this brought you that connection.
Holy cow I LOVED this! Thank you for posting it!
That’s very kind, thank you for checking out my take on Chopin.
I think the singing needs to be louder it’s kinda hard to hear the words
Good callout, I can bring vocals up in the mix for future videos.
Makes you listen again

So Cool! Loved that episode of King of the Hill too! Great tunes, I always wondered how they got that slide guitar sound in those older country tunes, I just figured it was a regular guitar with a slide, but that is apparently not how it's done!
Thank you. I’m sure some older country tunes used a guitar and a slide (depends which ones you are thinking of). Many used a lap steel or pedal steel, as they became popular and more widely available.
Love it. Great steel guitar play and paying tribute to the undisputed Queen of country music. Well done. Next, let’s here some good old George Jones
Thank you. I love George Jones, that’s a great request. I will definitely do some of his music.
@@pedalsteel I will be looking for it. You have great taste in music and you are polite. I will subscribe.
I genuinely appreciate that
Hell yeah. I love this song and you sound great👍🏼
hell ya!
You’re just too good.
This sounds great! I think you are getting better and better, Sam!👍🤩👏
Cool Bro. Thanks 🎶👍
Good!
Well done! I would love to learn pedal steel someday
Nice. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Nice!!
Love your cool shirt besides the music!😊
What a vibe!
Very cool!👍 Alright, now I request that you sing while playing the pedal steel guitar, Sam, as I want to hear your voice!😉 Merry Christmas 2023! ⛄🎄🧑🎄🌟👼✝️🙏🌲⛄
i respect the skill, but not the tone. it has to be pitchy, like the steel on buck owens or ray price songs.
Thanks for your input. Can you give me an example of one of those tunes, so I know what you’re referring to?
@@pedalsteel a good couple that i can think of is "i can't stop my loving you" or "under your spell again." both by buck owens. and then i got a couple by ray price, like "touch my heart" and "healing hands of time."
Thank you, I will check these out. I appreciate the insight.
Great playing! I also have a Stage One PSG. I am pretty new to the instrument and was wondering how you think it compares to other guitars? It is the only PSG I've ever been on so I don't have a reference. Is it a "Pro" quality instrument? Also, I'd love to see a lesson about the right knee levers. I can't quite figure out anything useful the use them on.
Thank you for your compliment and your question. The biggest limitation I’ve faced so far with my Stage One is a buzz going direct from my steel into a DI in a recording studio. The buzz is a bit undesirable for what a studio engineer wants in terms of a clean sound to mix. Otherwise, I think it is a perfectly good “Pro” quality instrument. I’m planning on upgrading my pickup and will demo that on TH-cam to see if it eliminates the buzz. I will try to incorporate the right knee levers in an upcoming video and demo how I’ve used them so far.
Need more volume.
You’re right. I had not figured out a good audio setup in some of my earlier videos, and perhaps should redo them.
It's nice playing. Please, play some more Songs, But full length.... ❤😊
Thank you, will do. I’m working on the full solo transcription for one.
Love it!
Thank you buddy.
Sounds great Sam!
I love your Y2K shirt
Awesome!!
EXCELLENT choice of a tune to figure out. Buddy plays it on C6 but it is cool to see you do it on E9. Why is your video flipped?
I thought it was a left hand steel, but the stage one logo is flipped. What is going on??
I recorded this in selfie mode on an iPad. It must reverse the orientation, this wasn’t intentional.

@@larryhern2562is this a request? What tune?
@@pedalsteelI’m guessing together again
Cool, what Peavey amp is that? Thanks
I'm using a Peavey Session 500 Mark IV Series.
Great job, need more recorded volume.
You're right :)
