Russian or American Kettlebell Swings?
มุมมอง 251ปีที่แล้ว
Although there are no movements out there that are inherently “bad”, there are certainly exercises that will give you more bang for your buck. At Axistence we’re fans of both maximizing our athlete’s time in the training center as well as minimizing risk. For this reason, we program the Russian swing over the American.

    I'm planning on doing something like this with a heart rate monitor. The plan is to get up to 90% of my max heart rate, and let it drop to about 60% before starting again. After hearing Dan John brag on Maffetone training so much, I've also been doing circuits of a push, pull, and leg exercise while trying to stay in the range of 180-age and 160-age. One such workout is 4 pullups, 8 dips, and 12 jumping lunges. KB snatches and thrusters are a good pair too.

    Easier said than done. Broke my wrist and have been in a cast x 4 weeks. All I can really do is walk, and even that is sometimes too much. I’ve noticed that when I exercise, my arm is super swollen by the end of the day, which makes my cast very uncomfortable. If I do nothing all day, there’s no swelling.. Listen to your body and keep your eye out for trends before you exercise

    just sprained my thumb and cant grip or press without bad pain. so i bought a ankle strap that girls attach to cable machines for leg and glute movements. I attached it to the wrist of my sprained thumb. Now I can do pretty much every upper body movement to maintain size and strength until my thumb heals. give it a try if you are in the same boat :)

    Obviously you can train legs and other body parts with an injured wrist. I came looking for a less obvious, isolated biceps exercise for an injured or fatigued grip.

    Truth is, you won't be Ronnie Coleman squatting with a broken leg, but some injuries you can definitely work around with modifications. And even if you have to stop training a group of muscles for a while, moving the rest of your body is always going to be beneficial for your overall mood and sometimes even for your physique too.

      Bad wrists run in my family and whenever I forget about it, they sprain. I usually train with free weight stuff. Your basic compound movements and whatnot. So when this happens, I simply wrap my sprained wrist and work out with mainly machines to reduce the risk of spraining them further.

    I'm convinced drinking is the culprit but I recently quit alcohol for 50 days and didn't see any weight loss. I know the scale isn't a good indicator of fat loss but that really discouraged me. I mean it wasn't easy staying sober that long. I mostly lift so would you say to increase my cardio?

  • @9am516
    @9am516 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    is it actually a myth? i have been avoiding my left arm bc i dont want the uneven outcome. id rather lose the gains in both arms together. -hardest part of the injury is not the pain itself, its the depression and loss of motivation knowing you cant keep lifting like normal. I just broke my hand like the video and started hitting the gym again 4 days after the surgey. i know if i dont go ill get fat and probably mad/depressed. i love the gym, been doing abs, cardio and legs only.

  • @christopherfotos
    @christopherfotos ปีที่แล้ว

    Regrettably, this is in fact bullshit. Your body is a system that has FEEDBACK. If you reduce your energy in, the body will adapt to that new level of energy consumption in a matter of weeks. The math Coach Ryan shows ASSUMES that there’s no feedback here and that your body is stupid. This is typical of people who never struggled with obesity personally. Disappointing horseshit.

    • @AxistenceAthletics
      @AxistenceAthletics ปีที่แล้ว

      @christopherfotos, Thanks!.. I think? Obviously the math isn't as simple as this, which is why I stated that fact probably 5 times in the video :) Your body does indeed have, as you stated, "FEEDBACK". After a month or so, there will be adaptations. Also, most folks give up WAY sooner than that, and don't stay consistent, so they don't see the results they're looking for. At least one of our subscribers used this video to lose 76lbs in one year.... I'm sorry you felt the video was disappointing HS. I'm curious to know how many people you've helped lose weight? As per your channel, it doesn't look like many. I hope your future TH-cam comments are less trolly and more helpful. Thanks again :)

    • @christopherfotos
      @christopherfotos ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AxistenceAthletics Coach--sorry, I didn't mean to offend. You did start the video with a "no-bullshit" title. Your client that lost 76lbs sounds amazing and like he's one of the elite. I think it's less than 5% that can actually use this method and maintain weight loss. My story is I was obese by the time I was 5 years old. I decided that I didn't want to live that life when I was 15 and lost over 50 lbs. I still carry the emotional and physical scars of obesity. I managed to keep my weight down for about 10 years using this lower energy advice--but it doesn't work in the longer term due to a body's hard needs for minimums on protein and fat intake (when I cut those too low it led to binging). The only sustainable way (I've found) to keep weight off (more than three decades now) is to take out carbohydrate; eat to satiety (high fat and moderate protein); and incorporate fasting (24, 36, 48 hours or longer). I hope the people you have helped find what they need to stay healthy. I did note in your response that you state that most people can't do this method because they can't comply--this does fire me up--it feels like you are blaming the victims of poor advice. I've come to see obesity as the result of our poor food system--not an over indulgance in energy. Is it really the client's fault that they can't do this? You seem like a top line coach--and I bet your clients are awesome too. Do you really think it's their weakness that your advice isn't getting most of them there?

    • @AxistenceAthletics
      @AxistenceAthletics ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christopherfotos I appreciate your response and the sharing of your story. As coaches, we can only do so much. The lack of compliance is true with every human (myself included). It's not anyone's fault. Some people will do what needs to be done and some won't. This is human nature. It sounds to me like you were someone who wanted to make a significant change so you made significant changes! In the end, everyone's weight loss journey is their own. Some find success in lowering carbohydrate, some don't. Some find success in eating a vegan diet, some find success eating a carnivorous one... Fasting, eating one meal, eating 6 meals... You'll find an example of people that lost weight doing just about every diet and exercise program out there. Ultimately, what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. What is absolutely true for every weight loss case, however, is that in order to lose weight, a person must be in a caloric deficit. Personally, I'm a fan of building as much muscle as possible (in a sustainable way) and then maintaining that muscle as long as humanly possible. Combine that with mindfulness around eating, and that's the best case scenario. Thanks again for your comment.
