Filming Hatty film herself with her new Hover Air X1 Pro on my DJI Mini 3 pro
Hatty got a new toy and I felt left out, so dusted off my Mini 3 Pro to film her filming herself. Her first flight with it, just testing out the different modes. She can't wait to try it out properly on a bike ride.

@@E-ZeeRiders I blame you. 😁
@@ForestCyclingAdventures guilty!
As cool as it is there I bet struggling with damp cold weather is annoying
@@InHomeHappy yeah it's not great. Been foggy like that for several days now.
❤
I struggled in the hills yesterday, probably conditioned for Everest now
Hills have always been my nemesis, even when I was reasonably fit last year. Not ideal considering where I live is nothing but hills in every direction!
Good to see you out Tom, and also out together. Here’s to 2025 and more of you and Hattie’s lovely scenic rides.
Thanks Neil!
Wish I had the confidence for these speeds. I worry too much about hitting pot-holes
@@bobsy852 my biggest crash was at the beginning of this year., I have a video of it on my channel. Only doing 20mph or so. My hip and elbow still hurts a lot from it even 10 months later. Crashing hurts, not matter what speed you go.
Hope you don"t mind me asking but why not an e-MTB ? Seems like doing those rough tracks lend themselves to an e- mtb with dual suspension
Weight really. My e gravel bike weighs less than a lot of non e mountain bikes. I do a lot of hilly road riding, where the extra weight would be a hindrance, even with a more powerful emtb motor. Plus I just like drop handle bars and the geometry of a road/gravel bike.
How long/far can that be ridden on full power on the type of terrain we see in this video?
There are so many variables it's hard to give a concise answer. Rider weight Rider power Outside temperature Wind.. Tyre type and pressure.. All will play a role. However yesterday I did a 23mile ride, which was about 1hr 40 mins, mostly on full power in the same area as this video and had 34% battery left when I got home. I don't think I've yet seen my battery below 20% and I've done 40-50 mile rides but on those I tend to switch the power modes up and down as needed.
Great video. I have the SLe and whilst it does not have the speed of my non electric road bike on the flats it definately speeds things up significantly on the hills and gives that bit more motivation to head out when you’re living in hilly terrain.
This is a great ride for me as I am thinking of buying this bike (They don't allow test rides in my nearest dealer shop!!!!). Just a few questions if you don't mind, which CGR AL e bike is this as there are three on the website? Also which tyres are you using as they look like really good all rounders? Thanks!
@@sturdeehouse it's the enthusiast model with the 12 speed mechanical 105. Tyres are the standard schwalbe G-one that come with the bikes although mine are 40mm and they now spec 45mm on the website. They have been fine in everything I've ridden mostly except mud. I have the same tyres on my standard Cgr too.
@@ForestCyclingAdventures That's really useful I appreciate your answer. I would probably put slightly thinner tyres on it (around 35) I'm thinking of getting the exact same bike for commuting through London every day, a thirty mile round trip completely on roads. Do you ever feel when riding on roads that you could do with an extra gear at all?
@@sturdeehouse can't say I have no. 12 is plenty. I tend to travel at about 20-25mph on the flat on road and have never felt like I'm spinning out. Only on downhills doing 30mph+ another gear might be useful.
ayo who that female you riding behind you? yo is she single? tell her I ride an ebike too (Surron) but i'd like to ride her if you know what i mean yo
I brought a Orbea Gain 5 years ago and has changed how I ride When I feel fitter I dial down the assistance or turn it off But it’s there if you need it X35 is a real bitch to change rear wheel X20 is a lot easier
It's not too bad changing the wheel, just a nightmare if you loose the bolts and you need to carry an odd size allenkey on the Ribble. Id like to try the x20, as some say it doesn't drag quite as much as the X35 and the extra torque would be nice. We went to the Ribble shop in Cribbs Causeway the other day to drool over the new allroad bikes. The allroad SLRe with the x20 looked very nice indeed. Shame it's £4k for the base model though! 😮
would one off these bikes fit on a turbo trainer?
Yep should do. , it's not really any different to any other bike. Just take the rear wheel off. Need to unplug the motor first but that's all. You'll need a quick release skewer to attach it to the trainer, as on the bike it's two separate bolts either side of the dropouts though.
Unfortunately the GoPro footage hides just how steep the road is. Never mind. It's made up for by the heavy breathing😅. Where was it?
@@FiveMinuteVelo That is the Mork Hill to Coldharbour road, Cockshoot hill. It's not horrificly steep, about 13-14%, but having just done the Mork hill which is about a mile at 7-10% it certainly burns the legs!
You haven’t posted a new video for a while. Hopefully all is well with you
All good thanks 👍 just very busy with work and other life stuff that we haven't been able to do any of the more exciting rides we have planned yet. Kinda boring just filming ourselves riding the same local routes over and over again for the sake of it. Hopefully soon we can get over to Wales to do the nice route I have plotted there and we still want to cycle around the Isle of Wight this year too.
Thanks , I do like to see the rides from areas which are new. The riders enjoy it more and it comes over. I’ve also gained inspiration to have a few long weekends following similar routes.
Cycled it today on my eblke awesome have Cycled it on a regular bike many times and it's a right killer
I wouldn't get up there on a normal bike, just happy the ebike has given me the ability to go places I otherwise couldn't.
Did This run a few days ago with my wife on our mountain E-bikes & we're both in our early to mid 70s & we're going back again in a few weeks to have some more fun around this wonderful area which is 1 hour from home .
@@paulaj2829 it's our local quick little blast route. We sometimes mix it up by doing it in reverse or add in some extra bits too. So much great gravel and tracks around here you will be spoiled for choice!
Have u chipped it yet??
@bastogne315 No, don't think I'll bother. I generally ride above 20mph on the flat, so it wouldn't be useful for that, and on the hills I'm usually below 15mph, so wouldn't be useful for that either. I'm happy enough with how it is standard.
It gives you higher top speed but less torque for climbs. Better off not doing it
Just ordered one of these 🤞
Hope it turns up quickly! Ribble seem to still have issues on delivery times sadly.
You can't boast the fact you have ridden all that elevation and be on a E bike. Your misses on the other hand, now she's a rider.
Show me where I've boasted? And I was still putting out 2-400 watts and my max heart rate of 170... So I'll boast all I want on my own channel, cheers... not that I have.
Hi I have an orbea e gravel just bought a range extender ,My longest ride was 92 miles that's before I bought the extender ,I was always watching the battery level I have only done three rides using the extender it's fantastic no range anxiety. I put my 92 mile ride on my TH-cam channel and one I have just done with the extender
I haven't done any really long rides on it yet, probably 30 miles at most but I haven't been worried about range. I tend to turn it off until there is a hill so I'm often only using 30-40% of the battery. Will be interesting to see how it copes in the Welsh mountains when we eventually get time to go ride there.
Omg your cycling is so smooth and your going that fast i wanna do that too one day❤
Grab a bike and go for it! It's fun! 😁
What power meter do you have on the cgr ?
On the ebike I have the 4iiii precision 3+ crank, on the standard CGR I have the 4iiii precision 3 standard crank.
Congratulations on your purchase, we bought 2 in December and they have been great - even took them on holiday to Spain 👍 Just a note, I had the same issue with my 4iiii power meter, 2 x 1mm spacers should fix it (if you haven't already. Also, I had a spectacular fall in the wet, if you went for the Riddler tyres - just be careful on cornering in the wet, I slid right across a junction and narrowly missed a logging truck which was turning left just after I'd turned right. Has knocked my trust in the tyre and they are also very easy to puncture with thorns etc, we've had 3 flats in 6 months (after about 3yrs with none). Enjoy your ALe and hope it serves you well!
Thanks! yeah, i got some spacers and its all good now. Ive got the schwalbe G -one tyres on it, same as my non e version of the cgr. They arent the best, but seem ok in the wet. Ive been very lucky and only had one puncture in all the years Ive been riding. I had a big crash in February on my road bike, which is on a video on my channel, still recovering now after all this time, so I'm very keen not to have another! Funnily enough, that was the same day I got the puncture, after the crash and completely unrelated to it! I unwittingly rode through a load of hawthorn thorns that had been left on the road limping myself and my bike back to the car.
I learned early on not to skimp on bibs. I look out for sales on Le Col myself. Still expensive but great for big rides with lots of hills.
Yes I've always spent money on good bibs. I've got several from castelli, sportful, siroko, Le Col and Huub. Not sure why I wore these for this ride, I think it's because I usually wear the cheap pairs on zwift as I only usually do an hour or so and they are fine for that, not so much on longer rides though! !
Interesting - I had a Orbea Gain x35 Al e-bike which I got as I didn’t think I’d be up to riding a muscle bike. I got very fit riding it because it was so heavy and a rarely moved below 26km/h except in climbs. I found the green eco setting essentially took the weight of the motor away. I bought a muscle bike to ride with a club and haven’t looked back. On the hills, I am sure Hattie was trying to keep up with you and you were able to go faster. One thing you’ll find with the e-bike is that you can do base fitness - zone 2 outside. Just put it in full power on hills and keep your power consistent.
I've been riding "normal" bikes for a long time and I have the non electric version of the Ribble CGR too. There is no way I would have made it up there without the little extra boost level one on the ebike gave me. It's only an extra 150watts or so, but it means I can keep just below max heart rate and not blow up. On the flat, I can ride a normal bike at 20mph+ all day long, but I can't climb long hills, never have been able to in all the years I've been cycling.
@@ForestCyclingAdventures the green setting 100% is 150W. I think I used it at 60% of that which was 100 watts. The orange I rode at 80% which was 175 watts and the red at 250 watts 100%. It’s great we have these options as I remember as a teenager struggling with a 24 as my biggest cog on the back and maybe a 38 as the small ring on the front up West Yorkshire hills. I’m 57 now and imagine as I get older seeing an e-bike as a way of continuing.
On mine, level 1 on sport mode is 60%, level 2 in 80% and level 3 is 100% I read somewhere that the Orbeas use a slightly different way of putting the power out, but how true that is, I have no idea. I was looking at getting one before the Ribble came on sale and made it better value. For me the ebike has opened up longer routes and hilly routes that I just couldnt do before. It's made things much more enjoyable.
The gravel bikes looked like the perfect choice, even on the road sections 😁
The "roads" around here are the best gravel you'll ever ride! 🤣
Great vid and a monumental climb, kudos to you both.
Thanks! It was a fun ride for sure. Can't wait to do it again and see if we can improve.
Chapeau I’d be interested to know what you have set your motor map to. My wife has had her CGR ALe 3 weeks and I’ve adjusted it a couple of times. She seems happy at 50, 60, 90 but uses the Green 50% the most., although to be honest she rarely switches it on as it rides so good without power. I’m expecting delivery of mine next week.
Pretty sure I left it at default. It's on the sport setting, so I think level one is 40%. I'll be honest, I got massively confused with it and didn't really know what it meant, so just left it as it was!
The Sport setting is 60 80 100 This equates pretty much to my wife’s findings. She has hers set 50,60,90 and uses Green 50% for hills 4% to 7/8% Amber 60% for 8% and above Red 90% she has only used once on a local 12% hill and said it was capable of much steeper ones. I was surprised how much battery you had left, 87% I think, that is very efficient for a 3 mile hill that steep against the wind.
I'll have to check when I get home what it's set too. Maybe I did change it. I have 40% in my head for some reason. I've been impressed with the battery life overall. I haven't gone below 40% battery I don't think. I do tend to use the power sparingly though as I still want to put effort in myself. The motor is just an aid to ride longer really.
I just checked, yes you are right, it's on sport with 60,80,100. Still not entirely sure what that means as I read it was a percentage of set percent but I don't know what that percent is, or if that's even correct.
@@ForestCyclingAdventures I very recently had that answered from Mahle. 100% is the full 250w available from the motor. So, with the Sport setting you have 60% of 250w on Green 80% of 250w Amber and 100% of 250w on red. There’s all sorts of theories out there but that’s direct from Mahle three days ago. With 87% of battery left after your ride you were obviously getting a good workout too.
Is that the standard CGR AL you're on there? How does it compare with the e version on the same route? Does the lighter weight make a difference?
Yep, standard CGR AL. I haven't done that particular route on the AL-E before, as it's so flat it's just not necessary, but yeah you notice the weight difference between them for sure. The most surprising thing was the ride comfort. The AL seems to ride much smoother than the AL-E. I assume it due to the extra weight on the rear wheel that makes it feel rougher. It's not bad, it's just noticeably different.
How did you not hit the full power button? Well done Hattie.
I wanted too, but was being shown up by Mrs power legs 🤣
Fun fact the two Ronnies filmed the worm that turned with Diana Doors at Purton

Im with you on this one brother
Looks like a fun route. I’ve been meaning to take a look round there. I often ride a bit south of that, a loop from Thornbury up to Berkeley and back. Fairly flat and quiet roads but as you say, the surface can be a bit poor (especially on 16” Brompton wheels!). Thanks for the vid, enjoyed that 👍
Yeah we have done from the Severn bridge down to Thornbury a few times, it's lovely around there too. I have plotted a 100k route combining both areas, from the Severn bridge all the way to the Gelato place in Elmore and back to the bridge, it's just finding the time to be able to do it!
Thanks! Looks like a lovely route. I will be checking it out one weekend soon…
it really is, especially on a warm sunny day!
You have to remind your other half that when you're not using the motor, you have additional weight to carry and that gives a good workout. I have the CGR too, great versatile bike, on my longest ride didnt switch the motor on until 86km (because I'm old and forgot).
Yeah, she knows really, just likes having a little dig at me 🤣 she's looking at getting one too, so then she hasn't a leg to stand on. On the flat I tend to turn it off, as im riding faster than the motor and give anyway, just the hills I need it sometimes. Or if I'm feeling particularly lazy!
Ribble looks like its eating up the gravel. 😎
It was eating gravel like I was eating flies 😆
You popped up on a search for the CGR AL e, as I’m thinking of buying one. Great vid and you may have convinced me so thanks for that. After not riding for 20 years (just turned 60) I bought a Brompton two years ago and struggled, got a Swytch kit and felt like I was 40 again! Much as I love the Brompton, it’s not great for longer rides and I fancy a “proper” bike again and I think the CGR might just fit the bill.
Certainly sounds like the CGR would be perfect. It can pretty much go anywhere and do anything, whether that's a road commute or rooty single-track. It's several bikes in one and the motor just is the icing on the cake. We did a 30 mile fully off-road route yesterday with 3000 feet of climbing and the bike handled it like it was nothing. I did the same route a few weeks ago on my non electric cgr and had to walk quite a few bits of it as I couldn't get up the rocky, muddy and sandy hills by leg power alone.
Another great video, I got the Suntour SP12 seat post to go with my Redshift stem makes it a much more comfortable ride with both fitted to the bike, also check out the Fidlock water bottle system
Thanks! I shall check then seat post out. I've bought a cheap elite custom race bottle holder for now. I've had them on all my bikes for years and not had an issue. The one I have now is so narrow at the top, you cant get the edge of the bottle in it. Probably why Hatty gave it to me 🤣
What pressure do you have in the tyres. A previous video I think you said you had 60 which seems very high for gravel and could be causing the vibrations. I test road a very similar bike and the dealer put 30psi in it. They were tubeless though
Currently just below 60. My non electric cgr has always had around 60 with the same tryes and has been fine, but maybe the extra weight of the ale is making it a bit rougher. I will be going tubeless as soon as I get a chance to sort it out. It's always a tough call as we do a lot of road and gravel in the same trip, so need to find a happy medium.
@@ForestCyclingAdventures I run GravelKings at 40 for 50 mile plus road/gravel rides
We received my wife’s CGR ALe yesterday. It arrived with 52 psi and it does feel firm even on the road. I’ve yet to experiment but I feel 40psi might be nearer for mixed but possibly less for the light gravel we have locally
Mine arrived with 60 so I just left it, and like I say, my other Cgr has always had 60 and felt softer. I shall reduce it a bit next time I go out and see. But tubeless is the way forward as soon as I get a chance to do it.
That didn't take long 🤣🤣
I think she was both impressed and disgusted at the same time! 😂 She will definitely be buying one soon, I guarantee it. She doesn't need it though, she's not a fat old fart like me 🤣

@kevshields1604 Thank you! I almost got the SL-E, but thought the Al-E would be better suited as we have so much Gravel and offroad around us. I may still get an SL-E in the future too though! 😁
So glad your Ribble has given you a new lease of life and given you a new level of enjoyment when you are out riding. Enjoy
Thankyou! It really has. Should have bought one years ago!
Congrats on the bike, watching the last video of you making that climb shows what a difference e-bikes make, not least in making the rides enjoyable. Thanks for the videos, the raw ride videos are a refreshing change from the instagram influencer style rides. Looking forward to more of them (on both your channels)
Thankyou! That's been the biggest revelation for me with the new bike. I actually enjoy the whole ride and I'm not worried about what's ahead. I said to Hatty the other day, there must be a niche for slightly crap quality and boring commentary bike videos instead of the over excited highly polished stuff TH-cam is full of.. well, I'm here to fill it 🤣
I have the CGR ALe too and the Garmin 530 often shows error messages, especially the low battery but just ignore them, rely on what the Mahle app tells you.
Yes I figured as much. Was doing it yesterday a bit too. I googled it and it seems a fairly common issue that has never been fixed! Saying that, my Mahle app doesn't work half the time either. I can connect but that's about it otherwise it just crashes or says it cant open any settings.
@ForestCyclingAdventures I've only ever used the Mahle app to track one ride, I use the Garmin mainly as it gives better stats and links with heart, cadence and speed sensors. I was tempted to link my garmin heart rate monitor to the Mahle app as that can adjust power settings according to heart rate but never bothered in the end. One accessory worth considering is the Garmin ebike accessory, as this can adjust power from the handlebars.
Yeah I saw the Garmin remote, looks interesting. Probably easier than using the 1040, which isn't too bad but is a bit laggy.
Great video and lovely bike, I’ve got an Orbea Gain, I think it’s the same system, it’s a great bike, I’ve just purchased a range extender for it, gives me about an extra 50 miles
Thanks! I almost bought the Orbea, absolutely love the green colour of those. It is the same system, although some reviews I read and watched said the software controlling it was slightly tweaked and perhaps didnt offer quite as much assistance as some other x35 bikes. How true this is, I have no idea. The only reason I didnt get the Orbea was price really. Ribble had a sale on and was quite a bit cheaper than a comparable Gain. So far no need for a range extender, I did 30 miles with almost 2000 feet of climbing yesterday and only used 35% battery, so I should be good for at least 60-70 miles I'd have thought.
Yes sounds about right 60 to 70 miles, I’m hoping to try some 100mile rides so went for the range extender so I don’t get range anxiety, enjoy 😊
