United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 ก.พ. 2016
The Centre for Conscious Design (CCD) is an international collective promoting the emergence of healthy built environments using Conscious Design principles.
The organisation is dedicated to advancing the Conscious Cities Movement, acting as a gathering point for individuals and organisations to inspire, share knowledge, network, and collaborate.
In supporting the development of the movement, the CCD works to advance education and research at the intersection of science, humanities, architecture, and urban design.
Our aim is to enable our fellows, members, and others to actively participate in promoting health and well-being within their communities through the built environment.

Are Intercultural Differences Properly Addressed in Scientific Research? | Hugo Spiers
The Lighthouse | 17th Nov, 2024
We believe that asking ourselves questions is a form of shedding light, expanding our awareness, our consciousness. Asking a question is a provocation to observe, to inquire, to test, and ultimately to learn and unlearn. In this spirit, we invite you to collectively contemplate our trajectory as a society, to reimagine ourselves through our relationship with place.
Lighthouse events gather the CCD community to set a path of inquiry for the field of Conscious Design and the Conscious Cities Movement. In this event, leading figures in the neuroscience of spatial experience will invite us to explore science’s blind spots. What are the questions that aren’t being asked, and why? What do we stand to gain from exploring the lesser known, and how might we do it?
The questions raised will be gathered and presented as points of departure for upcoming research, writing, and events for the future, including at the following year’s Conscious Cities Festival.
Three of our Lighthouse Fellows, Susan Magsamen, Colin Ellard, and Hugo Spiers will each deliver a short talk. Afterwards, all participants will be invited to smaller breakout rooms where you will have the opportunity to connect and share ideas and provocations.

Aesthetic Experience as a Basic Good | Michael Spicher
มุมมอง 907 หลายเดือนก่อน
We need to reorient ourselves to the value of aesthetic experience. Aesthetic experience is sometimes considered an afterthought or something for the elite. Beginning with an overview of the history of beauty, the most prominent aesthetic property, Michael will walk us through how beauty and aesthetics had a downfall in the 20th century. If we believe aesthetic experience is a basic human good,...

Did you consider that there might be something "interesting" for the rat in this south-west corner of the box? Did you rotate the experiment apparatus in other directions and see if the rat’s brain activity shows the same result and is still oriented in the same absolute direction? Otherwise there might just be a good smell in this box that attracts him.
This is a good question - yes many experiments have been to try and dissect out what information the animal uses - smell being one of the obvious possibilities as you suggest, since rats have an excellent sense of smell. Strangely though, smell has a weak influence and is easily overriden. Even for rats, vision seems more important than anything else. (The system doesn't seem to use magnetic orientation either).
Hello I am a student of psychology, intersted especially in environmental psychology. And I think this is a very interesting and useful video, to inform not only the researchers interested in this field but also the citizens, about what research is being carried out around a topic as significant as the relationship of human beings and the urban environment and how this information can be used to improve our cities. I am mainly interested in the interaction that could be given between structures and groups and individuals, and how this could affect urban design. Taking into account that the technology is advanced towards the possibility of having an interactive environment. Thanks for this great video.
