My Name is Alice B. Toklas
มุมมอง 30K4 ปีที่แล้ว
A film by Maira Kalman & Alex Kalman Starring Maira Kalman as Alice B. Toklas The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein illustrated by Maira Kalman Penguin Press March 2020
This film by Maira is just so dreamy to watch!
I just finished reading a biography on Gertrude Stein and this video just happened to show up. Now, I am inclined to read the biography on Alice. This is a hoot! Two women living in their own terms while making others famous.
Picasso was an idiot….agreed
Maira you make my heart sing! You're so delightful, and a great dancer too! So clever and funny. Just love you!
Thius is such a find and a treat.
Fabulous!
This is amazing ❤
I love this! I've already watched it several times and it is an absolute spirit lifter every time. Magical ❤
Because, men and women were meant to care for each other. Her partner's family took everything from her. They legally could, it belonged to their relative. Grown offspring and the deceased's family can be selfish and cruel. They were just waiting to pounce. Sad, but true. A.B.Toklas didn't stand a chance. When relations pass, the immediate family can be hard on each other too. You see where you stand, as a sibling, when a parent passes. The masks fall,so to speak. Just because the two people might get along, doesn't mean the rest of their family thinks the world of you.🤔
Brilliant!
delightful. i discovered you via The Scroll.
Haha the voice!
Wikipedia Alice. An interesting life, a tragic end.
Attended, virtually, the first Jewish Book Festival yesterday from The Museum of Jewish Heritage, Maira Kalman was one of the guest speakers and showed this video she and her son Alex Kalman created to promote her illustrated book. PRICELESS!
This is charmingly absurd. BUT I'm wondering why ABT has a sort-of-European accent? She was born and raised in the U.S.
I want you to make a Max in hollywood baby animation please!

Here, Alice is portrayed as a free individual. She was not. She died destitute. Over-romanticizing Alice is a disservice. Of course, the same thing happened to that great New Yorker, Helene Hanff. Her life, too, was romanticized in the film of '84 Charring Cross Road'. Men most almost seem to have someone to care for them. Why is it that women do not care for each other.
LOVE IT!
Who wouldn't want to see Alice B. Toklas eating a hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard on Fifth Avenue?
Love it!
