yo im using the script and its working perfectly ty! finally i can shiny hunt those mons bc adding new friends on 3ds is kinda difficult nowadays + its not even guaranteed you get the pokemon you want have you found one that gives you all the oras mirage spots? ive been looking on github but i only found pksm scripts that are already built into pksm on the current versions of it and idk why but i tried the pksm scripts and theyre not working recently tried switching date to reset them and obviously theyre locked now since thats what happens when you try that but i doubt that lock stops the pksm scripts from working right? anyways if you have a fix for this id be happy since i also wanna hunt uknown

Huh, I looked it up and apparently, at night, Pikachu's level at the Trophy Garden in Diamond and Pearl is lower (Only 16), and no other pokemon besides the introduced ones are above 17. So you could isolate Castform *completely* if you only hunt it at night with the repel trick.

The best option is Pokémon GO actually /j I got a shiny Castform in that game one day when it was raining and transferred it over to my Pokémon Home, never thought how annoying it must be to get in the mainline games lmao.

didnt know shiny castform was so rare, makes me happy i dont have to go through that effort, i got mine from pokemon go.

Did my comment get deleted? Must have been me posting a link. Anyway, good video but there’s a patch that exists for the games that makes this process way easier and lets you have the Pokémon not obtainable with the dummy friends. I think linking the patch got my comment deleted so just look up friend safari patch.

It sucks that Castform never saw any updates with newer weather effects and terrain effects, though throwing in field effects would've been cool as well but that deviates from the concept a bit. Also a bit odd a sandstorm forme never existed.

They seriously need to revamp Pokemon like Kecleon and Castform... If Alcremie can have 63 different variations, then Kecleon can have a different appearance for each type, and Castform can have a Sandstorm form. :/

i love castform so much and ive given up on hunting my own shiny, but thankfully someone i knew had one from pokemon go so i still got my baby, sadly cant get all the ribbons on it though.

This was a really fun video to watch. I got my shiny castform back in January using the Gen 7 SOS method and took just short of 400 encounters. Was a really fun setup though, researching what I had to do myself, with no real guide on the internet (until now that is!) Interesting to know all the other methods:)

Please forgive my ignorance but isn't easier to breed it? Just catch it once and hatch the rest for a guaranteed Pokémon species on the attempt. Even mix the two methods when the opportunity occurs.

Shiny hunting in ruby/sapphire actually becomes a trade-off. If the battery is dry (or you're in emerald), then you always have constant rng states, which means that if you reset the game you can aim for the same frame. But if you play with a full battery, there's greater variety in the rng so you can just soft reset

I just did the tutorial and it worked like a charm. Of course, you need a homebrewed 3ds, go to the download page... They will tell you to put a file into a folder. It didn't exist so I created one as required, pasted the file, then I went to check and everything fine. Looks like is a patch to add a friend for every type of safari. I just bought a second hand 3ds so it fitted so fine. Thank you so much.

TLDR; Castform was 50% likely with your specific setup. For the encounter calculator, every single patch of grass has the same number of encounter slots. A certain amount of 10% slots, a certain amount of 5% slots, etc. The rates for each Pokemon comes from combining the different slots. So for example, if a Bidoof is in two 10% slots, a 5% slot, and a 1% slot, it will appear 26% of the time. BUT, each slot has a different, fixed level the Pokemon will appear at. Back to the Bidoof example, let's say the first 10% slot is level 10 Bidoof, the second 10% slot is level 10, 5% is level 11, and 1% is level 11. A level 12 repel trick will make no bidoof appear. But a level 11 repel trick will only block the two 10% slots. The 5% slot and the 1% slot are still active, meaning you can still encounter Bidoof, but only at level 11. To calculate the new odds of finding Pokemon on the route, you take the percentage of all the slots it still appears in over the total remaining percentage. So since a level 11 repel trick blocks two 10% slots, but allows a 5% and 1% slot, the new odds of finding Bidoof are (5+1)/(100-20), which is 6/80, or 7.5%. Additionally, the game doesn't replace the blocked encounters. It still can choose a level 10 Bidoof as an encounter, but blocks it from actually starting. This means that you encounter Pokemon less frequently when using a repel trick. For the Bidoof example, since the repel trick blocks 20% of the total encounter pool, you only encounter 80% as many Pokemon as you would normally in the same number of steps. The trophy garden works in a unique way, where the daily Pokemon replace the Pokemon in a specific encounter slot, slot 6 for today's Pokemon, and slot 7 for yesterday's Pokemon (slots start at slot 0, so slot 6 is the 7th Pokemon in the list on the calculator). Since you reset for Castform and never changed the Pokemon after that, Castform is in slot 6. Slot 6 is normally a 5% Pikachu encounter slot at level 18. Since Castform replaces it, it is now a 5% Castform slot at level 18. With repel trick, the only Pokemon left are the 5% Castform, a 4% Pikachu, and a 1% Pikachu. This makes Castform a 50% chance per encounter. Judging by the screenshot of the Pokemon in the calculator, the 14.29% number you got seems to come from replacing the 5% Pichu slot with Castform, and raising the maximum level to 18 in that slot, but keeping the minimum at 16. Since it is placed in the incorrect slot, and the maximum level was incorrectly adjusted, the erroneous 14.29% number is what you get when hitting "GO!" in the calculator.
