Hand Quilting Without a Hoop - Sew With Me 1
I am amazed that you used permanent marker to draw the pattern on the fabric and managed to sew it so that none of that marker shows on the outside or inside of jacket. That was very brave of you! Love your work and thanks for the video!
You, sir, are incredible! What a magnificent work of art. Please don't ever compare yourself with others. Thank you for sharing this beautiful quilt and your amazing talent and process. I love it!
Your artwork just blows me away. You are truly an extraordinarily gifted artist. I have made a few quilts so I have some sense of the kajillions of hours that goes into these amazing pieces. Thanks for sharing on a venue we can all access. Really enjoyed your video!
Your quilt is so beautiful, and the sew-along format is refreshing. Thanks!
Love to watch your painstaking process. BUT why dont you use a fabric stick glue to baste? It would save you the time pinning and basting and you dont use up your precious thread? Saving time and money always is a good deal
I stitch along with you and it is like sewing with a friend. I get mine done as you get yours done. We both nibble away at it daily and it gets done! I have 3 handwork projects active, I work on 1-2 a day, in between working full time and doing other projects. I see PROGRESS weekly. It gives me momentum but does not overwhelm me. I love these Sew With Me videos. I am learning new ideas and approaches to quilting, doing art quilts, trying to get what is in my head, to fabric. Thank you for bringing us along with you.
You certainly deserve recognition for your fantastic works of art.
Your quilts are extraordinary.
It came out so perfect 😮I really enjoyed watching the whole process and I learned too. 😊
Thank you thats beautiful 😮.
Watching how you hand quilt...may make my hand feel better. I rock the needle and I am working on 90 motifs. I use a hoop. Been quilting for 13 yrs. I think I am going to try this
Just found you I love your work, very inspiring. I have been hand stitching for a couple of years. I have yet to make a quilt sized project. I have made several small things keep up the great work.
Your quilts are breath-takingly beautiful. Congrats! 😊The masking tape is great & I get it but how do you do those perfect CURVES at equal distance from each other? Thx for this great video! Wishing you all the best!
I loved this. I like Tsukineko fabric inks to shade on fabric and for details. Posco pens are good as is Pitt pigment pens for very fine details. All are made for fabric, light fast and permanent. I have Dyna flo sampler, I haven’t used them yet. But now will give it a go! Thanks
this is incredible!!
What are you sewing on top of?
Your quilts are absolutely ravishing!!
The only wrong way to quilt is to not quilt at all. If your method works for you and you are happy with the results, then it is the right way.
Ir you wrap the thread over the needle you won't have to use 2 movements to make the stitch
Iron your applique piece to the shiny side of freezer paper, then baste it a little...great sharp edges.
Hi Brent, I'm a longterm, 30 yr, hand quilter! Also a painter. Have a border to finish & I'm going to try it without a hoop! Have you tried freezer paper applique before making the quilt sandwich? Want to ask what kind of binding do you do? And what are you recording with? Love the artistic style... 😊
New subbie. Love ur work
Brent, I really loved your video. Your explanation of the quilting stitch was so easy to understand. Seeing how you stitch without a hoop is great. I’ve been working on a Christmas quilt that I made long ago. I’ve come to the edges where I can’t use a hoop. I’m going to try your method. Thanks for your video and I’ll be watching for more .
When my sister got to know I like to do quilting and she just said this is the work old ladies do hehehe. And my husband call me tailor 😢 So yes non quilters don’t understand our work or worth of quilts
Wow you are an artist of quilts beautiful beautiful love the colors you chose as well ❣️
Your quilts are fantabulous Brent and a feast for the eyes. I couldn't stop smiling as your pictures of your quilts rolled by. Thank you!
You have come a long way. Very proud of you.
I just started hand quilting and I’m having trouble picking up the stitches on the back. You make it look so flawless! Do you have any tips. Thank you 🙏🏽 and I love your work. Keep winning 🥇
You are so right. I will not ever sell my quilts for the same reason as you.
Is that you, playing the piano?
You Sir, are truly brilliant! Well done! Huge fan here.
I know it has been a year... a hoop would greatly help with avoiding the puckers!
My quilts are entirely hand pieced, and hand quilted. They are my own designs, and are not for sale! I have told people: I will teach you how to make a quilt, but I will not make one for you (same goes for my historically inspired hand stitched clothing). Most people have no idea how much time is involved.
It’s beautiful.
That is why I love to hand piece.
Love your work and the process is interesting… I do lots of EPP and save tons of time and irritation by threading multiple needles at once. Also, shorter thread is actually smoother to use, and makes the process more liquid. And ergonomic
Brent, how clever and efficient! Usually, there’s lots of pattern pieces involved. I like that your method is one piece of fabric. Love those welt pockets. You are a very talented artist.
Brent you should paint your basement walls in an artsy style. Collect others left over paints and do some peace signs and 70's flowers 😊 it won't be creepy anymore 🤗 LOVE THIS QUILT❤
Thank you, Brent. I just finished quilting a king-size quilt on a frame. I have two more to do and am interested in doing at least one without a frame. Your quilting stitches were quite clear, but my question is, HOW do you lay out your layers and BASTE your quilt? I will soon be 70 with a bad back, so the floor is not an option. Thanks in advance for your reply.
"Wow, that's amazing. Your skill set is so impressive!" is what I'd like to hear!
I was amazed by your beautiful quilting. I am also a quilter and have been wanting to learn hand quilting. All of the tutorials haven't helped much. Then I ran across your page. I very excited to try it! I subscribed to your channel and I will be watching your journey. You are very talented! Also a great teacher! Thanks for sharing!!❤
I use a wet toothpick to fold the fabric over. I learned that technique about 30 years ago from Becky Goldstein. I think her name is of piece of cake quilts. When you use the wet toothpick, the fabric just folds right under.
Brent! You deserve millions of subscribers the way you work is truly refreshing outside the box. Use your noggin and stay off Pinterest kind of thing. I love what you do. I appreciate the tips too how you mark your quilt for hand quilting. Long arm quilt, but I got tired of doing it and started hand quilting. But I hate having to follow a template and follow someone else’s design yada yada yada. Thank you so much for watering my seed!
I can’t draw, but I do have an old projector that works perfectly! I think I might just start with basic organic shapes. And hand quilt that first. And then the next one be a little more complex but not much lol
I left quilting after about 30 years honestly because I had made every single pattern there was to make and every fabric line there was at the time. Watching you work ads a much needed seed that I thought I had run out of. Thank you for showing me how you work it’s fascinating.
People give thousands of dollars for a canvas painting that looks like a someone spilled their paints on it. A quilt is the same art just different material and many more hours spent...
I just found you! Please make more quilting videos talking and quilting! I LOVE this!
Wow stunning……
So very glad to find your channel. Im am a happy expectant subscriber. I too use my hands in many different hobbies, and quilting is one. I want to hand quilt my latest love. Will try to send you a pic. Any advice would be welcome.
It's why I never sell a quilt. They're all made for someone particular, and I put what I know about that person into the design, the colour choices, etc. I'll never make something generic enough to go to just *anybody*. Besides, if it's all about the money, it take the joy out of the process, puts pressure on me to complete it as quickly as possible, and would mean I'd never make another hand-quilted hexie quilt.
