    In my opinion, it didn't appeared refined enough. I am not a purist. If you are going to work with clay, bring it up to its highest potential. The final product looked unrefined and lumpy, especially on the border of the jar. Not my style but, I am sure it still appeals to a great number of people. Did it go on a kiln? What are the dark accents shown in the vase at the end?

    Hi Yoon. Such beautifull work! I am challenging myself to work with bigger amounts of porcelain. You talk about the porcelain being pretty dry and I found out that is indeed easier. But this hump is coming out of an extruder. How do you perfectly wedge a porcelain that is so dry? I struggle with that , also physiqally.. Any tips?

    • @yoonlab
      @yoonlab 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, thanks for the kind words. It’s really difficult to hand wedge dry clay so I use pug mill. If you don't have a pug mill machine, you can hand wedge smaller amount of clay and put them together on the potter's wheel

    Hello. This was an excellent demonstration. I will try to apply the lesson in future work. I've been making pots on the wheel since 2019. Mostly by watching tutorials like yours on TH-cam. I live in a rural community. They love my pottery. But there are no advanced pottery schools here. Please, if you don't mind, this is very important. Where did you go for training in South Korea, and would it be possible for an American to study there? I have been researching places to work as an intern for a pottery studio. Thank you for any advice on how to find one.

    Amazing! Thank you for sharing this. Was this filmed in Moondobang's studio? And is your technique the standard technique taught across korea? I noticed he also teaches the same method. I always run into issues with the outside hand. There seems to be too much friction and its also hard to get the clay up from the very base. Maybe a wrist flexibility issue? Which fingers are mainly touching the cylinder?

    • @yoonlab
      @yoonlab 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it was filmed at Moondobang and every artist has slightly different techniques across South Korea but the principle seems to be the same

      Great suggestion!

  • @paulm965
    @paulm965 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm so concerned with not using much water that I tend to get too much friction mid-pull on these tall cylinders. Looks like you're using a sponge with your inside hand... is there quite a lot of water/slip while you're pulling, and then you're just soaking it up afterwards with the stick sponge? Thanks for the video!

    • @yoonlab
      @yoonlab 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually use plenty of water or slip during the pull and remove excess water and slip using a sponge or a rib tool while shaping the walls at the finishing stage

    • @aharonkolatch2886
      @aharonkolatch2886 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Using water when centering/pulling is critical, but if you want to use less, don't sponge it on. Use slip from throwing, and then get your hands wet. That will loosen the slip and keep it sliding. Once you are done pulling, no more water. Like she said, use tools for shaping. What helps the most is centering quickly and minimizing pull. Don't cone and dome a dozen times. The idea that it wedges on the wheel is nice, but it's water-logging the clay before you start. The less moves spent in the high water usage early steps the less water you will need to add.

    I just subscribed because you are a genius! using a clear glass vase to show the position is brilliant. Not that I wouldn't have subscribed anyway but that one little thing is thinking outside the box (Or cylinder if you want a bad pun). Also impressed you are working with approx 5kg of essentially chewing gum (how it feels to throw with porcelain) and no offence to those working with other clay bodies but at least I know you have the credentials to be doing a 'how to' on TH-cam if you are going with that. A great channel it seems for the more experienced potter. Thanks

    Wow this field really needs a technical video series or this art is doomed I don't need a video about how a product looks want info on actual raw ingredients and alternatives weights measure actual technical information. I've literally learned more about pottery from bushcrafting videos than every video on ceramics on youtube so If you could make a science based approach series would be lovely as every video so far has been Karens saying oh I use this product did.
