Welland Traction Engine wheelie 2024

Engine was stalling hauling a heavy roller. More throttle was applied which caused the engine to "wheelie". The front axle disconnected and the front of the engine dropped. A crew came out with a crane, picked up the front end, the axle replaced. The engine then continued without the roller. The recovery was not filmed due to a fire engine blocking the view.

It's Oliver from "Thomas and Friends"!😊 It would've been cool to see autocoaches make an appearance in the show. While it was cool to see Duck and his slip coaches (which is also a GWR type of coach), I think it would've been cool for Oliver to have coaches too, specifically autocoaches. Then, he and Toad wouldn't be lonely.😊

Why do I actually really like the concept of a Garratt wearing a Hancock 3 chime LB?
Awesome 6 Chime, from what I've seen its a Cut down Brass 6 Chime on a D&RGW Bowl. The whistle used to be worn by D&RGW #471 decades ago but Im certain it's not a Reading 6, but does sound very similar.

Never see too many videos of mechanical stokers running, ethier the doors are always closed or it's hand firing. Would had loved if UP hadnt converted the 4014 to oil. Seeing it feeding a 150 sqft firebox at speed had to be a sight, if you could see that is without light shaded welding goggles.
Why is the atomizer and flame aiming at the door? Wouldn’t that be dangerous? If the firebox malfunctioned and the atomizer turned off wouldn’t the oil spit out of the firebox and burn the crew?
Because that's the way the air flows when going through the train (when burning oil) when burning coal as God intended, the air comes up from the metal grates under the coal.

What is even the point of those extending stacks?
If I were to guess, I’d say it’s to let the smoke exhaust higher so it doesn’t affect visibility in the cab as much, while still being able to lower for low clearance tunnels.

Or, more likely there was only low steam pressure available for the demonstration.
A "Top Hat" exhaust stack is what this is called if I remember correctly.

That's the oil burner. UP 4014 was converted to oil firing during the restoration, as the coal mines that once fed its hunger went out of business while it was out of service. And the UP railroad had problems in the 90s with coal-fired engines starting grass fires along the track, which oil firing avoids.
No, it had standard butterfly doors when it was a coal burner. The coal would be fed to the stoker table just below the doors. That is an inspection port to check the fire without opening g the door itself and to pour sand in to clean the flues periodically when running.
Those stacks are ugly but at the same time they look cool
