Thanks for the kind words Cherri! Bobbie Gentry inspired a lot of folks with her music, then in the '80's, basically went "off grid", where she remains today apparently. (She inspired me too, because as a young boy when the song first came out, because I thought she was hot as a firecracker...and I was right, she was!) As far as what DID they throw off the bridge?....that's what has always been so intriguing about this song to me. I love songs that tell a story, and this one definitely does! The real cool thing about this one though is everyone has their own opinion about what the story actually is! Bobbie never divulged the full story, and left it to everyone's imagination to create their own story, around the "facts" she gave us in the song! THAT is songwriting, in my opinion. As an aside, they made a movie about it in 1976 starring Robbie Benson and Glynnis O'Connor that told A version of what the song was about. The movie was enjoyable...but it didn't tell anywhere close to the story my mind concocted over the years. What story has YOUR mind concocted about what the song tells YOU?
