John Duggleby: Live at Benevenutos
My friend Ron Dennis, caught me in the act on the patio of Benevenutos Italian Grill in Fitchburg, WI during summer 2024. He made me this representative sampling of my live show-- enjoy!

The Musical Fruit
มุมมอง 1453 หลายเดือนก่อน
Bush's Beans ran a competition with a $15,000 prize for a video jingle with a more kindly treatment of the old rhyme "Beans, beans, the musical fruit, the more you eat, the more you toot!" I wrote this and recorded it with my friend and sometimes musical collaborator Codrut Birsan, and Jude shot this video in his living room as we were joined by his two precious daughters. We didn't win, but we...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "WIDE OPEN"
มุมมอง 652 ปีที่แล้ว
In the midst of a tough few months, a road trip across the Great Plains in my dad's 1999 Ford Ranger seemed like a good metaphor for trying to keep the wheels on the road when you're blown Wide Open. Lyrics follow: WIDE OPEN By John Duggleby 1/22 This old truck’s equipped with pieces of a man I used to know His warning lights the dashboard, “Don’t drive it in the snow.” I’d call him when I get ...
“WATER DOESN’T COME FROM WALMART “ BY JOHN DUGGLEBY/SKIP JONES
มุมมอง 603 ปีที่แล้ว
My friend, Wisconsin folk music icon Skip Jones, is a big clean water advocate. Once when he was playing to a group of kids, he asked the rhetorical question, “Do you know where water comes from?” A boy’s hand shot up: “It comes from Walmart!” “Walmart?” queried Skip? “Yeah, Walmart. My mom buys bottles of it, and we drink it all the time!” When Skip relayed the story to me, my instant reaction...
NEW SONG: "ROSIE"
มุมมอง 2583 ปีที่แล้ว
I wrote this zydeco song a few years ago and play it live occasionally, but I've never recorded it until now. The timing is appropriate, because this year's Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans is cancelled for the first time in 32 years. So I'm bringing the party to you Laissez les bon temps roullez! Lyrics follow: Rosie by John Duggleby ©2011 Has anybody seen my Rosie, got big brown eyes and turn...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: IM FLYING
มุมมอง 2243 ปีที่แล้ว
Older people may sleep a lot, but perhaps it's because they're reliving their glory days. This song was inspired by one of my favorite "sleeping seniors", Korean War fighter pilot Lt. Richard Duggleby a.k.a. my dad. Lyrics follow: I’M FLYING, by John Duggleby, © 1/2021 You ask why I creep into hours of sleep, leaving you all for a while But under this sheath where I’m trying to breathe, I wear ...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: “DELICATE ARCH “
มุมมอง 2253 ปีที่แล้ว
This song was inspired by Utah's beautiful Delicate Arch, which adorns the state's license plate. Such wind-carved arches are created and worn away over time, and struck me as a great analogy for the fragile balance of many aspects of our lives these days, and how a fine line separates success and disaster. Lyrics follow: DELICATE ARCH by John Duggleby ©11/20 Way out west where the rocks run re...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "CORONA CAFE"
มุมมอง 1954 ปีที่แล้ว
Though the coronavirus is far from over, America is ending quarantining. Some areas are taking a cautious approach while others are flinging open the doors with no safeguards and rules whatsoever. If you partake in the latter, welcome to the Corona Cafe! Lyrics follow: Corona Café by John Duggleby © 5/2020 At the Corona Café we don’t care where you’ve been or are going You don’t have to tell us...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "TAKE A KNEE"
มุมมอง 3444 ปีที่แล้ว
One of the quickest songs I've ever written unfortunately current events have given me much inspiration. Lyrics follow: TAKE A KNEE By John Duggleby © 6/2020 For the ailing vet who paid his dues but now he gets blown off by Uncle Sam For the immigrant who picked the grapes and when the job is done, he’s told to scram For the inner city teacher who asks for books and gets the third degree For ea...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "WE'RE ESSENTIAL"
มุมมอง 1924 ปีที่แล้ว
My friend Jen Frank created a new advocacy group called the Essential Workers Party, and asked me to write a "Woody Guthrie-type" rallying song. I channeled my "inner Woody" and here's the result. Blessings to all you essential workers! Lyrics follow: We’re Essential by John Duggleby © 5/2020 We’re the doctors and the nurses on the front lines saving lives First responders, ppe makers too We’re...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY INSTRUMENTAL: "PANTASIA"
มุมมอง 214 ปีที่แล้ว
A melodic mashup of stuff I've never recorded featuring my beautiful handpan, which I call Amakua. Starting with a couple of Celtic ditties dancing around in my head, I'll morph into something in 5/4 time inspired by Dave Brubek's jazz classic "Take Five." iPhone doesn't do this exquisite instrument justice, but it will have to do until I'm sprung from quarantine!
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "FEET TO THE FIRE"
มุมมอง 2004 ปีที่แล้ว
This was inspired by the old Carter Family mountain gospel tradition, carried into current times, and a day of reckoning for a sinner I didn't feel I had to name. Lyrics follow: FEET TO THE FIRE, by John Duggleby © 5/2020 You know your daddy raised you well to travel down the road to hell Treading on the backs of the people Of all the monuments that you raised to beat your chest and sing your p...
NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "CARNIVAL MIRROR"
มุมมอง 834 ปีที่แล้ว
As a little kid, I used to love to go to the fun house and gaze into those crazy mirrors that distorted reality. A great metaphor for life, and some people never grow out of it. Lyrics follow: (Chorus) Take a gander in the carnival mirror, see your face a-glowing All your curves found the perfect place, wrinkles disappear Better watch it ‘cause one wrong move, all your warts’ll be showing You’l...

NEW JOHN DUGGLEBY SONG: "LEAN BUT NEVER FALL"
มุมมอง 1594 ปีที่แล้ว
This was inspired by a favorite tree in my neighborhood that teeters precariously over a lake, but never manages to fall in. I see a lot of symbolism in that!

Thanks, I'm probably too self critical. I don't do "music videos", and never even videotaped myself before the pandemic. I basically just sing into the iPhone. I much prefer playing live, which thankfully is happening again!

You're really productive these days John. Keep it up. May I suggest you include a list of the lyrics.

Thanks! I'm not sure that "productive" equates to "good", but it gives me something to do. I don't know whether most people hone in on the lyrics like us, but it certainly doesn't hurt. I'll do that.

I am in the Kootenay Boundary region of southern British Columbia. I am not a trained facilitator, and do this as a volunteer. I have accumulated a few drums and percussion instruments through the years and made some others with upcycled materials. I'm hoping to found a nonprofit community music society so I can get some funding for more instruments. There are so many people in our communities who could benefit from drumming but are on limited incomes.

I use 1x8 inch kids plasic frame drums by Remo, they're indestructible and last time I bought any, cost only about $12 US each, with a beater. Also shakers (some homemade) and tambourines. Good luck!

+John Duggleby I'm sorry I don't know anybody in Wisconsin but if you were ever to expand into Minnesota I work with MRCI, which is filled with wonderful senior/disabled folks! I would love learning how to do what you do so I could share this experience with my folks. again just wonderful!

Where in Minnesota? I'm in Madison, and it might actually work out if I could do a few in a day, especially in southern MN or the Twin Cities area. I also do nine different musical programs for this age group (singing accompanied on string/percussion instruments). If you send me an email to me@johnduggleby.com I'd be happy to send you a flyer on y many programs for seniors/disabled. Thanks!
