Comparing a few of the Mariuses from "Les Miserables" shows around the world. Comment which one you like best! Subscribe for more! None of the music belongs to me.
Michael Bell most emotion. Rest are too nasal & concerned about showing off range & gymnastics & emotions secondary. Bell doesn't care if he ugly cries.
It's a song for all of an age where everyone else has passed...
i cant be the only one that heres a swear right here 1:12:43
Micheal Bell for me tho a few others had followed very close behind. First time watching Micheal singing this I actually cried
Ramin Karimloo Gareth Gates and Adam Jacobs
I agree with the people who say Eddie’s performance is excellent. This is a song which embodies a great deal of emotion. Only his performance came close to portraying that emotion. I also agree with people who say that it would not have been an excellent stage performance. We would not have been able to see everything that he was doing on the stage. For the stage performances, Michael Ball was my favourite. However, I don’t think there’s a correct answer, just whichever performance speaks to each of us separately.
Michael Ball in 84 and in 94. Goat Marius. Dont like him as Javert though.
Eddie
Michael Ball. Hands down.
Michael Ball had the perfect balance of conveying the emotion and hitting the notes. Some nice acting from Redmayne though.
The one that made me rewind to see who it was, was Gareth Gates, a gorgeous voice. Michael Ball and Gareth. Streets ahead.
MB always been the best. But Eddie Redmayne is brilliant as well
1:08:15 feeeeeeeeeee
Why does race looks difference? Where is his blue blouse :(
is this the final performance? audience seems extra excited
I believe this was filmed during previews, as there were extensive revisions to the staging, script, score, etc.
I like how Ball was right after Jonas. He's like "this is how it's done"
Is that LES, Ethan Steiner?
It’s either Lewis Grosso or Matthew Schechter (this video seems to be from 2013), Ethan Steiner was Les for the tour at some point + proshot
Notice how letter from the refuge isn’t in here. That’s because it was added only for the proshot
for the tour*
WHAT.
@@brick7459yeah, thats why it isn’t on the soundtrack either LOL they kept it for all versions of the show after since the licence rights use the 2019 tour script
He's not on here, but Rob wins my heart. He's an absolute legend at singing this song and gets me crying every time. It's so unfortunate that I've never seen him perform anything before.
Eddie redmayne. The others are great at singing a song. But Eddie was living the song. ❤
11:54 damn morris got hit hard if he just crawled into a ball for like 9 seconds 12:06 morris and oscar bump into each other 😭 damn it now i have another musical that i need to watch live
5:36 and 5:50 legit sound like the same person 😂
Michael Ball
Not on your video but having seen many actors play Marius over the years the standout has to be Rob Houchen, his extraordinary ability for me even trump Michael Ball.
Hadley Fraser and Ramin Karimloo. Hands down.
Michael Ball was and will always be the only Marius!!!!
Michael ball is INSANEE
I'm a bit biased. Hadley is my favorite person. I think you can hear the heartbreak and guilt. I also love Eddie's rendition for the same reasons. I didn't like the casting decision for Nick Jonas. Not because he isn't good, just because I didn't think it was fair to put him with people that have so much more experience than him. None the less, Nick's performance of empty chairs at empty tables makes me cry every time.
People and talking about Nick Jonas but his voice was deeper than many there. And yet many sang deeper than Michael himself
You seems to like Broadway but you don't know some things about music, for example the basic, the difference between tone and ovtave. For example, everyone there is on the same tone but not in the same octave, no one was out of the right tone. And people don't have the same voice. Also you should know more about Broadway too, because people that you accuse that don't know how to be in Broadway was there since a child. @ShaileneWilcox1415
@shailenewilcox1415
There's boys with less octaves and boys with more. Everyone got the tone, everyone was great.
@shailenewilcox1415
why the fuck is Jonas here? he starred in the concert just because of boy band fan girls.
Eddie Redmayne acted it best, but Michael Ball sang it best.
Where is David Bryant’s version? He originated the role on Broadway, and his version is amazing
1:08:02 Jeremy’s look is almost terrifying😭
Who else watched the video because Nick Jonas was on the thumbnail? Was it just me? Okay.
i know Jonathan Antoine didnt play on stage but his version of this is so haunting and great....but i like Eddie as well cause i felt like he was singing from his heart like he was in pain losing his friends
Well it definitely ain't Nick 😁 I've seen Michael and Ramin sing it. I haven't heard anyone else come close, except maybe Peter Karrie. I also thought Gareth Gates did a decent job when I saw him in the touring cast.
There is difference between singing the song and showing the right emotions to the song. Eddie showed it the most.
Chris by far
Ramin, was absolutely the best!
Is it just me or is Michael ball the best Marius hands down ever…. So much gravitas in his voice. Depth, the rich tone.. the others sound like they’re singing from their throats, aside from Eddie who gives a very unique performance. Who knew Eddie could sing so well..
Eddie Redmayne is my favorite, though Scott Garnham elicits similar emotions for me. They both manage to elicit more feelings, from me. Most of the others are superior singers, but they don't touch me the same.
Bruh, Chris Mccarell just kills it. The juxtaposition of the sense of rage and grief is truly chef's kiss
i am a chris mccarrell stan, and him and michaels blew me away.
Michael Ball! No contest.
Chris McCarrell - 2015 did an awesome job!
Michael Ball hands down. Hadley Fraser is very very good as well. As is most other Marius. For the records, much as I like Redmayne as an actor, he just isn't Marius. At all. Casting him for that role was a mistake, almost as big a mistake as casting Nick Jonas as Marius. Ironically enough, in both occasions, the producers had Hadley Fraser in their hands, and decided, for some god-forsaken reasons, to relegate him to secondary roles.
Eddie Redmayne, ftw. All of the others failed to convey appropriate grief, messed up the timing, or both. Mostly both. I would have preferred a little stronger voiced "getting caught up in the memory" as he could "hear them now, the very words that they had sung," but the emotion was appropriate and the timing was perfect and the only singer who managed the stronger-voiced grief without distracting gasps also rushed the timing. Everyone else pretty much tried to express the emotion by hanging onto every note until it dragged the timing way back. Not terribly surprising, I guess, as sorrow tends to cause a drop in energy and lack of energy in a singer's world tends to lead to inadvertently slowing tempo and going flat.
Always a fan of Colm
