Cave diving at Santa Fe Spring
Conditions rarely allow for diving at this massive cave system on the upper Santa Fe River. The recent drought has allowed the tannic water to clear.

On 13 May 2023, Karst Underwater Research returned to Madison Blue Spring to continue exploration in a section of cave named "The Graveyard", approximately 7000 feet from the entrance. This video captures some of the new passage from that day. This dive and others like it are made possible through a special use permit with Florida state parks.

Ginnie Spring - Exploration of the Dos Equis Passage
มุมมอง 282ปีที่แล้ว
Years ago, 4000 feet from air, I noticed a small opening in the rock in Mainland that seemed to have potential for further exploration. The time finally came to check. Over the course of three dives, I managed to navigate a bottle off restriction, followed shortly by another, more serious restriction, before dropping into a larger passage untouched by humans. The passage is named for these two ...
Madison Blue - New Exploration

Karst Underwater Research divers have been exploring a new section of the underwater cave at Madison Blue Spring State Park. This video shows a section of the cave named The Graveyard, which extends 8,000 feet from the nearest entrance at depths of up to 140 feet. Reaching this area requires navigating multiple restrictions. This is the first time this passage has been filmed. This dive was con...

Karst Underwater Research cave divers Matt Hansen and Chris Hartmann visited Madison Blue on 20 March 2022. The goal of the dive was to document a fossilized dugong skeleton deep into the cave, but after some gear malfunctions on the surface, the plan was reduced in scope. The music is Eastminster from the free youtube library. Eastminster by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons A...
Enchanted Forest Cave Dive, Eleuthera, Bahamas

We found and explored this underwater cave just off-shore of Eleuthera, Bahamas on 4 Jan, 2022. After a few dives and survey, the end of line is at a linear penetration of 1750 feet from the entrance, with a maximum depth of 130'. This video was taken during the initial exploration, and shows the first few hundred feet of the cave. Later, the nature of the cave changes dramatically.

    8,000ft from the nearest entrance? How many bottles do you have to stage? I'm surprised they're doing this on open circuit and not rebreathers. Also, there was already line laid in this video. Were these exploratory divers making their way through already charted sections to begin exploring new sections?

    • @confuted
      @confuted 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between primary bailout, safety bottles, and deco tanks, there are 14-16 tanks in the water for two divers. We're on rebreathers or that number would be much higher. The line seen in this video was laid in the past few weeks, and has only been seen by a few people. The video ends just before the fresh exploration for the day started - we can't film while also running line and surveying.

      @@confuted too bad you can't use DPVs. This seems like a seriously advanced exploration. I'm not a cave diver nor a diver but Dive Talk has me fascinated about cave diving. You guys should send your video over to them. Can get a lot more views for the cave diving community.

      @@GuncladSaiyan DPV use is allowed on permit, which KUR has. Most of this footage looks like a DPV mounted camera, and you can spot one at 3:33 on the lead diver.

    Thanks. Dosn't seem too tight if you can do it on backmount.

    • @confuted
      @confuted 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's right at the limit of backmount for an extended section. It's much easier and faster to pass through in sidemount.

    • @McNamaraDiving
      @McNamaraDiving 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most definitely right at the limit of backmount. Probably couldn't be done with a lot of backmount rebreathers or people who aren't slender, there are quite a few restrictions where you can't look up and your face is sideways against the rock. One of the worse ones is 20 feet long and 16 inches tall.

    Its very cool i didnt know they opened it back up for divers. It was closed when i was a kid. A few guys in late 70’s-early 80’s got lost and didnt make it out i guess. My boss in high schools first job was in the quarry. I think he was there 5 or 6 years while it was still in operation. But he said the tunnels and shafts run under west rutland into center rutland. They shut it down because it was getting to expensive to haul the marble out.
