Is Soul Burger the Most SLEPT ON Album of 2024?
Quick question before the diss tracks. Are Drake's releases from Dark Lane Demo Tapes to For All the Dogs warrant a case for him getting a new contract?
you're talking from both side of your mount, i understand that, i understand, drop a hit called i understand that
All kinds of problems with your takes here but Imma try and keep it respectful. 1. Insulting: I went through the whole lawsuit, please don't assume we didn't. If you want to build a channel (and maybe you don't) it's not a good idea to treat your viewing audience as idiots. 2. Illogical: UMG destroying one of their biggest artists doesn't make senses because it impacts UMG's bottom line. Whatever they gain in signing him for less would be lost in diminished income from the artist they supposedly devalued. Make it make sense how this would be good business practice? 3. Inconsistent: You say that objecting to the lawsuit because it would be "bad for hip hop" is wrong (because 'we' who object are not really 'hip hop') and in the next breath you say the lawsuit could be good for hip hop and artists. Because presumably you are hip hop? How might I be as qualified as you? Again, insulting. 4. Inconsistent: You criticise content creators as "only being about getting likes and money", don't they have families to feed too? It's ok for Drake to protect his income, but not content creators? How do you draw these weird lines? 5. Thinking it's not ok to sue and claim defamation over a rap battle that Drake freely participated in and defamed his opp himself despite the warnings, is not pro-label. That's narrative crafting. It's called morals. I can't rock with this perspective, sorry. I'm not scared for him, we all make choices and we reap what we sew.
First thank you for leaving a comment, I really appreciate it. I can't do this without viewer input. 1. I’ll start here, I was raised by the mantra “If it don’t apply, let it fly”, having that type of attitude got me a long way and I typically feel like most people in the world feel that way. My intent is not to question your intelligence but to challenge the talking heads who spread BS to an audience who don’t read this stuff. In all honesty, my takes are more at the major talking heads in the space because it is more happening than just a hip hop thing and they know it. 2. I wouldn’t say destroy but more of a humbling. My POV (whether wrong or right) UMG is a corporate entity that loves MONEY. Getting one of the biggest global stars to renegotiate a slave deal helps them in the short term until they can figure out how to use AI or build another Drake for the future. Sometimes certain people (not you of course) are short-sighted in thinking that Drake is a rapper from Canada that only serves the USA music. Dislike him or not he is still a global star and other markets outside the US will still buy his music and concert tickets. A devalued Drake is still a Drake that can bring in millions of dollars to a label that can easily hit a button and make people forget this whole thing even happened. 3. Again like my uncle always used to say “Boy, if it don’t apply, let it fly”. A little background about me, in March of 2015, I started an internet radio station called BYNK Radio that was a platform for independent hip hop and RnB artists, completely self funded. I wanted independent artists' music to be played outside of streaming, get spins on their songs and I got licensed so they could get paid some royalties. I gave a lot of independent artists their first interview on that platform and you can listen to them here: open.spotify.com/show/4BLwCWich63aawFEExJnRj?si=e0b97a49bae84fff I never believed in telling an independent artist to pay ME for an interview, I never believed in asking an INDEPENDENT ARTIST for payola to play their music, I never believed in asking an INDEPENDENT ARTIST to pay for promo on my platform, I even helped connect some artists to producers. I love music and I want artists who are trying to be independent to win. I’m not saying I’m hip hop but I damn sure live next door. I am one of those people who believe artists need to be independent because labels have too much power and whether you believe it or not, Drake taking this as far as it could go could expose a lot of what the business does and maybe that will give some of the up and coming artist a chance to stay independent with their music not be in a slave deal like one of the biggest artist in the world. Anti Label does not equal pro Drake, that’s a narrative for the internet trolls to play with. 4. NEWSFLASH: IT’S OK FOR EVERYONE TO GET PAID. Creators have families to feed, but don’t think for one minute that corporate entities won’t come for what they have built and don’t think that these same content creators won’t sign a contract that will forever have a percentage taken away from their overall earnings. Attention has become the new currency these days and it’s cool to be popular but it’s even better to own what you built and sell it at YOUR price point. Some of these content creators still get excited about playing a song first and not getting one penny from a billion dollar corporation. I just want creators to be smart before companies like UMG storm in and start giving them 360 deals. 5. Yeah you got a point but the legal speak in that lawsuit is coming from a lawyer that has to try and win against one of the biggest entities in the music business. We tend to forget that the language that’s in these lawsuits are lawyers not Drake specifically. Drake tells the lawyer what he recalls in the situation with UMG and the lawyer has to make that into a winnable case. Even if that means saying things that the public doesn’t agree with. The lawyer doesn’t work for the public interest, he works for Drake interest. If I hire a lawyer to win a case, he better do everything in his power to win. You’re right he freely engaged in a rap battle that gave him an L, but IF and again I will state IF, these practices happened to keep him from negotiating a better deal, he should feel a way. I think I said this in the video, we never understand what’s happening in a situation until it happens to us. I want people to get what they are owed, not just Drake but all artists. My delivery or my takes are not for everyone but they are mine and not everybody is going to like them but I try to be real with my true supporters. I’ll end with this, anytime a major artist has tried to go against a label it has not ended the best for them. When I say I’m scared for Drake, that’s me thinking about the “conspiracy theories” I’ve read from the past. It’s multiple ways that it can end for him and not all of them are good. Thank you for the conversation. Have a great day.
11:38 his argument about his Mansion being attacked is from the not like us cover art
yeah I read that but Drakes mansion has been in magazines before the battle and the cover art did not give an address.
You have a unique perspective but I wonder will this put everybody's lyrics under a microscope. Including his own, this will be fun to how it turns out
UMG is a billion dollar corporation of course they will put Drake's lyric under a microscope if they want to win this case. Lyrics have been a centerpiece in court cases here in the last few years, so I guess we will see.
You are mad
Also the world is not ready for Ghost Rappers, but I can't wait because I am pretty sure it is already happening... The diss tracks and the hypocrisy are going to be both epic and confusing...
What tf you think tweaker is by that goofy basketball player is. 😂
You know what??? That is a good point!!! 🤣
Great video as usual sir. Man, yall Kanye West fans have to be tired... Like cmon dog, this guy has been lost it.
😅 yep
I think people let the 2018 Grammys tarnish their view of cardi b too much. When you go back and listen, that album is still heat; super excited for her to drop the follow up Edit: for the UK scene, keep a look out for Cristale as well! She's dropped some dope singles and hopefully will release an album in the next year, you can't box her in
Cardi's debut album aged well, but she's got to stop pump faking and drop this new album. I want to hear a new full album from her and see if she still can hang with how rap has evolved. Thank you for the recommendation! I will be looking her up today, let me know what other up and coming UK artist I need to be checking for. It's time I start letting people know.
I 100% agree. Why is it always hip hop that HAS to be innovative and “try” new things? The gatekeeping issue letting whoever in the culture is already hard enough, and now you incorporate AI into it will make it a million times worse. Sounds like niggas have ran out of things to rap about so now they are about to get lazy.
I'm tired of the BS, labels have figure out a way to replace artist and people like Kanye and Lupe want to usher in our downfall. We got to keep hip hop a artist driven genre as much as possible, if we don't our genre will be the first to be fully automated. Thank you for the comment
Another good year for Kendrick Lamar Duckworth who will prove everyone wrong about the Super Bowl. He’s going to prove that he’s The G.O.A.T.
He ain’t do shit 😂
🎉🎉🎉😊
Should of done it 10 years ago
100% agree my guy
BY FAR his worst. He should Just focus on his drug dealing as opposed to his music. He’d make more $$$
Lip baby
Thank you lol I fixed it 😅
I love that you recalled the Jay lyric. That’s telling. I like badass but I would admit To having an intrinsic New York bias. Big Kenny fan. But the hype aside, I love a New Yorker repping New York especially amid this LA hype. It reminds me of the kids that used to open the class door that he didn’t belong in and shout something inflammatory like “yo, all ya in here soft- can’t none of ya beat me”. And it applied to whoever took it to heart. I think Kendrick passes on badass though. I think he has his hands full and may look at that like a “who cares if I reply” type deal or, “I’d be giving you more light than deserved”. Joey my boy but I can see it easily being dismissed. I loved it though when I heard it. Made me wana grab a baconeggancheese and put my Arizona tea by my timbs. Appreciate you g!
Thank you! I honestly think it's time for New York put some real rappers in the forefront. I think Joey will get a response from the West Coast but it won't be Kendrick maybe somebody like Symba, but I like when hip hop gets regional its going to be a great 2025
Agreed! Much like a bunch of non mentioned artists responses to the control verse taking issue with the king of NY claim from Kendrick back then. Hoping it becomes something. I definitely like that regional based sound, from everyone.
@@mattesteves8110 same here, I want to hear more variety in hip hop and when it's regional it give me more options to listen to.
She cried meeting lil Wayne but he can’t smile at a cheerleader
Wtf is in top of your head 😅😅😅
Because black people acting like annoying dumb Karen's ever since this battle, yall look stupid
TYLER ON TOP
Definitely my favorite album of the year
@@harrisonsworld6142 that's dope
Oooo. Hot take. I agree though. Love dot and I enjoyed the album but there’s more bias to the over all story since April or whenever the beef started which made this what it was in terms of sensationalism. Loved the sza record, loved the pac flip, loved a lot about the album but I agree that people saying it’s number one is almost as crazy as saying not like us was the best song of the year. Though I love it and we all love it. Hats off to you sir.
Thank you because a lot of people called me crazy for this take.
Of course. It’s brave of you but I think subjectivity in art is tasteful when you can use objective truth. Love the content overall bro. I’m definitely tuned in.
@@mattesteves8110 thank you so much
Bro you titled to your own opinion with that being said good stuff 🙏🏾
thank you! I really appreciate it!
Denzel is one of the best real rappers in the game right now
Exactly!! HE NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION!!!!
Facts, one of my favorite artists
I'm so hyped to see him perform his new album live next year when he tours in Germany. Bought tickets immediately. Although I also hope he plays some songs from melt my eyes see your future and my all time fav unlocked. Love Denzel and his insane talent.
Same here, I'm going to see him when he comes to the UK in June. Melt My Eyes was such an underrated album, he's one of the best out but I just don't understand why he doesn't get more recognition
Since 2018? Nah since 2013
you know what you right!
Yea I agree straight fire album long waited for
I definitely would like to see what samples and hooks new they got
🤝🏾
Nah ur V2 take is completely valid. I personally liked V1 quite a lot despite the mixed reactions and I held out hope for V2, but it severely disappointed for me. The only songs I genuinely like are my soul and slide, compare that to V1 in which I genuinely like every song to some extent, great songs like Burn, beg forgiveness, problematic, Stars and back to me are leagues above anything on V2 besides slide.
you are completely correct, I loved V1 (still playing it) I don't think it's anything on V2 worth listening.
jay z ik thats u
You would love for your daughter to be like and dress like female rappers ha?
It dont add up to me. She said a guy approached her talking about she fit the look that P Diddy like. Then say Jay-Z rape her first then diddy but only sue Jay-Z. Then the next day she said he came pass her mothers asked her to come with him nd she said she can’t her mother going be mad if she leave out but u was just out all night I’m pretty sure to at least to 2-3 am
all of this is lawyer games, the amendment came out after it was a back and forth between Jay and Buzbee. I honestly need to see some real facts come out from both sides. Thank you for your POV
Honestly i hear glorilla music all over the place so no surprise never heard of the other girl
If you like rappers give Doechii's "Alligator Bites Never Heal" she is heat.
@bynkmedia I'll check it out
Get rid of that 🤡
Brilliant idiots with charlamange I’d say he’s pretty close to the culture
but is he really? I mean he hasn't really had much to say till now. Andrew use to not comment on hip hop topics in early BI pods
Man everybody talk about everybody stop it
As always excellent observation on the whole situation and I agree with you. Excellent video sir!
@@LordCaim3K3 thank you
Very dope and fair take on Andrew. As a fan of his this was a horrible take but I also agree with anyone getting jokes and he might be right with some of his criticism about rappers but the subcontext of everything he said about Kendrick is just nasty.
Thank you for the comment. For me none of this didn't land and maybe I wasn't the audience for the joke. The thing with Kendrick to me was way over the line and he gotta deal with that when the time comes, but my opinion (and I hate saying this) he looks like he's playing the engagement game like everybody else. It's plenty of time in the show where he was saying "I like the album", "I'm a Kendrick fan" and so on but the places he was going outside of that was not good.
@bynkmedia oh yes this is definitely a hustle everything situation. His moves on Twitter is crazy 😂
Dude when was rape funny? This is beyond hip hop he fantasized about Buck breaking that's the focus. The whole they do it so I can do it. That's like saying the house is on fire so why can't I pour gasoline. It's a dumb argument.
Thank you for your POV. I get your point, and he's going to have to deal with the repercussions that comes with those comments.
Kendrick has entered the chat 😂
