Tal-y-llyn Railway : Tywyn to Nant Gwernol July 2024
The latest of my Talyllyn Railway videos featuring a steam engine I hadn`t seen before this year. This time the actual name of the engine is the same as the line it runs on. Recorded with a Panasonic Lumix TZ70 in 1080pHD mp4 and edited using VideoStudio. Music as usual written by John Tapp and played by Middleton`s String Theory (UK).

John Firth Tribute
มุมมอง 78ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a little tribute to drummer John Firth (of Middleton, Manchester, UK) who died just after Christmas 2022. John was one of the team (which also included Danny Hardman, Roy Costigan and Phil Moore) that organized the Pete Cowap Dusting The Plaque tribute concerts held at the Olde Boar`s Head in Middleton. The first clip is from the 2008 concert with John playing drums with Middleton band ...
Rochdale Rushbearing Revival 1986 - Super 8mm silent film

Filmed in 1986. A short silent record of the Rochdale Rushbearing parade of that year. Sadly, the Super 8mm Agfachrome film is affected by the blotches of mould that seems to be common in Agfa movie films of the period.

John Kirkham with Dark Horses

This is a tribute to drummer John Kirkham who died recently (August 2015). It`s from a 2002 gig at the Corner Cupboard pub in Glossop, Derbyshire with his friends in the band Dark Horses. The line-up also includes the late Tony Crabtree who played with John many times over the years.
Little Red Clothing Pigs - 1979
มุมมอง 429 ปีที่แล้ว
My final year college movie made to demonstrate some knowledge of cartoon animation in order to get work in the industry. Produced at what was then the West Surrey College of Art & Design in Farnham, Surrey, UK. Restored from the only 16mm print which had gone very red, as they do.
The Fiendish Fu To Yu - 1975 (16mm restored 2015)
มุมมอง 1939 ปีที่แล้ว
An amateur animated cartoon from 1975, seen here in its restored 16mm Kodachrome form. A parody of the super-hero and Fu Manchu genres. Too much going on for its own good maybe but it was fun to make. Music sound loops supplied by partnersinrhyme.com, a generous group of people producing royalty-free bits of music you can download.
Tony Crabtree with Dark Horses - Corner Cupboard 2002

Recorded at the Corner Cupboard pub in Glossop, Derbyshire February 2002. Dark Horses featuring the late Tony Crabtree singing and a lovely guitar solo from Dave Thoms.

I did not know Tom but if he was friends with Pete Cowap, He would have been a friend of mine for sure ! I knew Pete back in the 60's in The Bahamas. He was a fabulous musician and taught me much as a young guitar player myself. I have missed him as a friend ever since. May Pete and Tom rest in peace and forever jam in eternity !

A friend of mine picked up a CD of Tonys after watching him play a gig at the Elizabeth hall in Olham during the beer festival. He gave me the CD. It was one of Folk songs he had recorded which included Arthur Mcbride and other classics. I was gutted that i lost it and would love to hear it again. If there is anyone out there that has it get it uploaded or send me a message and i will do it. His beautiful voice should be remembered.

This was actually a combined Anti Nuclear Campaign - CND demo. But, the Anti Nuclear Campaign seems to have been forgotten by both political, and social historians in the UK. On a lighter note, both Killing Joke and, The Pop Group were great that day.

I played this many times with Victor B when No Change transformed themselves into the Blues Train - last played with Victor at Dot Bromley's 60th in March 2009 (Gary Bromley was a long time stalwart with Victor), a gap of just about 26 years! Before that me and Steve Scott - The Trend - used to go to the 'big' Surrey in Glossop and for 20p entrance fee be entranced by Victor and a whole load of pro musicians playing the blues - Norman Beaker, Paul Burgess (10 CC), Lol Creme, Muscle Shoals Brass Section and many more. In a pub! In Glossop! Invitably there was a fight outside - sometimes optional and sometimes not - Glossop was a frontier town for late teens in those days. I later played with Victor in the pub myself, some of those memories include Cliff White - landlord extrodinaire - flicking the main room lights on and off in excitement - and Alf 'Alright Mate' fromPeak Auto Spares from over the road doing trumpet solo's. The lead guitarist, Nick 'Sparky' Clarke went on to form the legendary North West region band Yessir - have a look elsewhere on TH-cam, they were great. These were some of the best days of my life...............................

So sorry to learn of John's passing. I have been trying to track him down for the last ten years, and do a gig with him. We were friends until I joined the Army in 1962, and I was probably the first guitarist to work with him, aged fifteen, in and around Oldham, playing songs by Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent and others. Even then, he was an outstanding drummer! R.I.P. John.

So sad to hear on BBC Radio 4 this morning of the sad end of Tony Crabtree on www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04xrv9z - well worth a listen on the iPlayer. I met Tony playing in a bar in San Antonio, Ibiza, and we became friends. I will never forget him saying "Give us a look", and investigating my face with his sensitive musical fingers ...... I feel a song coming on!

Rose Tait Thanks for the tip about the Radio 4 programme. I`ll certainly have a listen to it. At the time this video was made Tony wasn`t drinking and, as far as I could tell, wasn`t taking drugs, but he told me he had cirrhosis of the liver and was staying off the booze for a few months. Of course, if you have that disease you shouldn`t ever drink alcohol again and he was intelligent enough to know that so you could see the self-destructive way he was going. Not a happy man. As you say, a sad end.
