The Digital Revolution- Part 3- Timing Fidelity
In part 3 of the "Digital Revolution" series, Shane Walton with University of Ultrasonics explores the principles of timing error that may occur when converting analog A-Scans to digital, utilizing different Digitization Frequencies and Sampling Rates. Simple, nominal testing frequencies are considered here. The UT practitioner must be aware that a range of frequencies are typically present dur...
Phase Coherence vs TFM on LOF and Porosity
In this installment, Shane Walton with University of Ultrasonics compares TFM and Phase Coherence Imaging results on everyday weld flaws- lack of sidewall fusion and porosity. The component under examination is carbon steel material, half- inch thick, single V weld geometry with a 37.5 degree bevel. Typical API- type weld sample.
The Digital Revolution- Part 2- Sampling Theorem
In part 2 of the "Digital Revolution" series, Shane Walton with University of Ultrasonics explores the history of Sampling Theorem- starting with Harry Nyquist and his principles that are still in use today in the realms of telecommunications, digital music production, and of course- Ultrasonic Testing.
The Digital Revolution- Part 1- Intro to Digitization
In this first video of the "Digital Revolution" series, Shane Walton with University of Ultrasonics introduces us to a few of the digitization principles associated with UT testing instruments. Digitization Frequency, Sampling Rate, and other topics are discussed.
Phase Coherence vs TFM vs PAUT on HTHA Damage
A real world sample containing HTHA (High Temperature Hydrogen Attack) is examined using several techniques- 0- Degree Linear PAUT, negative 30 to positive 30 L- Wave Sectorial PAUT, Conventional TFM, and Phase Coherence Imaging TFM. Phase Coherence Imaging (PCI) was recently introduced on the OmniScan X3 instrument, and is shown here with a 5L64 transducer, contact, on a 3" thick sample.
ScanBuddy Line of Weld Scanners
Kevinn Morgan and Shaun Meerholtz with De-Tect Unit Inspection recently dropped off a full kit of ScanBuddy weld and corrosion scanners for me to test- drive here at the University of Ultrasonics. The scanners were easy to setup and use, seem really sturdy, and are very competitively priced. One box of scanners could tackle a large range of PAUT, TOFD and TFM applications.
