Craft along - using a large envelope to create a little flip book in our accordion journal
Another idea for our little accordion book of ideas using envelopes. This time we'll use a larger envelope trimmed and folded, glue its flap onto the edge of a page and create an extra little booklet inside our book.
Super happy with how this one turned out, decorating with a few leftover book illustrations it all came together just perfectly. Love it when my plan goes out the window and something better comes in!
I also digress (as usual) and show a few other envelope ideas at the end.

Don't know what to do in your journal? Take a look at these!
มุมมอง 1.6K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Here I try to answer the question "but what do you do with a junk journal?". I'm guessing the person asking this question might be used to the idea of a diary with blank pages suitable for writing, and the mishmash of papers and pictures in a junk journal seems confusing, when it is in fact an invitation to keep a visual journal in a whole new more creative way. I've kept many journals over the...
Frankenpages - a quick and easy beginner junk journal tip
มุมมอง 7614 วันที่ผ่านมา
We are being deafened by cicadas here so this was really a test to see how loud they were while recording. I think it's okay! and wasn't really planning to upload it but thought maybe someone somewhere might find this useful. It's more of a show and tell than tutorial, but making frankenpages for junk journals is one of the best scrap busters I know, and heaps of fun. You can make any size page...
Secret removable journal pages hidden inside an envelope flippy flappy thingy!

Craft along with me and my cat Loki as I hide a mini journal made with an envelope and some scraps in Penel's ideas with envelopes journal...how long will it take her to find it? This is also a nice way to use some of the lovely images we have collected instead of hoarding them away in a drawer. #craftalong #useyourscraps #junkjournalsforbeginners #envelopeideas #catmeow
Let's make a journal topper - easy way to dress up a cover!
มุมมอง 12921 วันที่ผ่านมา
Penel shows a simple way to dress up a plain journal cover, whether it's a junk journal you've made yourself or a store-bought plain journal, it's an easy way to personalise your book. Use more scraps! All you need is some card, some fabric and odds and ends of smaller scraps to collage on more interest to the base. You can use your sewing machine or just a strong glue to create a unique and me...
Edith Holden altered book flip through
มุมมอง 6928 วันที่ผ่านมา
A long time in the making, here is a flip through of my first finished altered book. After reading Edith Holden's biography I decided to transform it into a special journal featuring her beautiful illustrations. I used images from various other Edith-inspired books, a knitting book and a little diary as well as Nature Notes and Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. I'm very happy with the result ...
Envelope ideas - use up those tiny scraps!
มุมมอง 32หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick little video showing a few more ways to use envelopes for our little book of ideas. This time using the smallest of scraps to make our own tiny envelopes, as fold-down secret writing space and as tuck spots or belly bands. I love these two techniques - using up scraps and creating extra writing space are both so satisfying. I also show my favourite super easy way to store ephemera.

Making a glass centipede - this one worked!
มุมมอง 26หลายเดือนก่อน
Yay, this time I managed to complete the centipede and it stayed in one piece...no booms here. This video is sped up as making a glass creature like this is a slow process and in real time often takes me a couple of hours to complete. #glasssculpture #lampwork #centipede #playingwithfire #moltenglass #flameworking
Scrap buster - what to do with all those leftover envelope bits from our envelope ideas book!
มุมมอง 35หลายเดือนก่อน
It doesn't take long to accumulate scraps does it? Only two ideas in my little book and there was already a lot of leftover bits on the desk. Sound familiar? Sometimes it helps to just sit and play with what's in front of you instead of rushing on to the next idea. You can almost hear my brain grinding away as I face my pile of scraps and figure out a few extra uses for all those leftover bits....
Making and breaking a glass centipede - watch until the end
มุมมอง 53หลายเดือนก่อน
I was trying to do a video on how I make a glass centipede...it turned into a video of how to break a glass centipede! Bug went boom!! It happens and you have to laugh it off, glass has a mind of its own and even when it is something you have made many times it can still go crack and sometimes bang! #glasssculpture #lampwork #playingwithfire #exploding #centipede #breakingglass
Envelopes! Let’s make a bellyband/bookmark with secret journaling space for your junk journal
มุมมอง 40หลายเดือนก่อน
Craft along and use up another junk mail envelope or two! Working into the little envelope ideas book, we'll make a belly band with a difference. This one has a pocket to hold extra paper for journaling. At the end I show how to turn this into a bookmark (something I've always meant to do and haven't until now). Perfect for making a note of something you want to remember while reading your book...
Let's make a little book of ideas - #1 using junk mail envelopes in junk journals
มุมมอง 750หลายเดือนก่อน
How to use all those little accordion books we've been making? I've decided to turn them into ideas book, by category. Today I start on my first one which is going to hold all the envelope ideas that I like to use in my journals. Craft along, as I show you how easy it is to turn a junk mail envelope into a very useful little piece of ephemera that can become a page in a signature, a flip or a p...
Craft along - October

Time for another spread in the little accordion journal, only a month since the last craft along but better late than never! This month I was lucky enough to visit the Chihuly exhibition in the Botanic Gardens in Adelaide and have made a little scrapbook style page with some images. I just love having this visual reminder of the week that was, and hope you're enjoying working into your journal ...

ive always loved journaling, and it wasn't until the last 5 years i've really used it as a coping mechanism to deal with all the thoughts and wonderful things in my mind..I'm obsessed with your journaling style , thank you for your time , thank you for mentioning Lynda Barry as i have not heard about her being from New Zealand
Thank you for sharing these thoughts here, I really appreciate every word. I have a couple of Lynda's books and love them, but Syllabus has probably had the most impact on my journaling.
08:30 i would be so interested in a read through of some of these journals… like the month to a page journal, even some of your morning pages would be great; i’d love to do something like that but honestly could see myself struggling so much! thank you so much for giving us a little peak into these :-)
@@er-ha thanks for the ideas, this video has been getting so much love I was wondering what else might be interesting to everyone.
Love this video so much! Thank you for sharing and inspiring me!
You are very welcome, and thanks so much for your feedback!
This is what I love about journaling! Being able to reread things to jog memories and dump all the thoughts in my brain.
Exactly! I think of these as my memory banks.
I love journaling. It saved my life. I regret not journaling more during the pandemic, but I was fighting for my life!❤
@journalologyandcoofficial glad you made it through, even without journaling! Like you, it has really been a life support system for me too at times. I love it.
How cool that you’ve got your family’s wonderful history in the journals!!! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. ❤
So happy you liked them, they are pretty amazing.
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely. Thank you!
My pleasure, so glad you enjoyed it.
This is exactly why I journal! I love the idea that a future generation will see how life was first hand from their own ancestors perspective! Would love to make friends with more people who feel this way! I’m running workshops in England with this in mind!
What a lovely thing to do, wish I lived closer!
What a treasure trove you have! How beautiful. Many blessings to you
Thank you, I do! And thanks for your kind comment
Wonderful!
Thank you!
I totally like your ideas and espescially the fact that your pages are not overloaded. They are whimsical and you could still use the journal for writing and memory keeping. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much! I like to write (a lot!) so always leave plenty of room for that.
amazing!! I have One page of my paternal Grandmother's handwritten thoughts, and treasure it.
After filming yesterday I started to read my Mum’s travel diary I showed and it is so precious, her adventures as a young woman that I never knew about! Aren’t we lucky?
thrilling!

What is that scraping noise in the background?
Hi Paula, I think the noise you mean is the kookaburras having a good old laugh…
Love your journal 😀

Just found your channel and I am enjoying your soothing videos very much. The little black cat Christmas Card looks like it could be a Louis Wain illustration. I love his work and he was a very interesting and eccentric man. So many treasures in the gift from your friend.

These look great! Love the tip about opening up the acetate after putting it together - must try!
@@JacqsScraps thank YOU for the fabulous idea! These are so much my style - no frou-frou flowers in my journals 😂
These are cool! I don’t have that die cut machine but they would be easy to cut out. Maybe a dried flower or fern would look good inside. Will you put the specimen slides in a nature journal? 🙂
Thanks, the ferns are a good idea. I'm not sure what I will use these ones in yet...possibly a more science/anatomy themed journal as that's what I enjoy making 🙂
🐦 🕊️ Remarkable employment. I stand inclined toward, oxidized paper. Amazing orange. I loathe, the crested green bird as unaware of its cognomen. 🐦🕊️ #JunkJournal 🐦🕊️
@@BrandonSeerattan thanks for your comment 😄
I like what you did, but how did you make your frame?
Thanks! The slide frame was cut using a die (Tim Holtz Sizzix Specimen Thinlits 3665930). You could also make your own with card stock and cut out with a blade and ruler, or even use an old slide if you have any.
My goodness, you have a soothing voice. Great journal idea.
Thanks! hope I didn't put you to sleep😀
I'm new to journal making and this inspires me - thank you!

Hi there! Just happened upon this video and enjoyed seeing your interpretations of the last few days of the JJJ challenge. I, too, completed this challenge for the first time. You created some beautiful pages. I also liked your list of reflections on the benefits of this activity.
Thank you, it's nice to know someone is watching! Hope you had as much fun as I did working on all the prompts, I really liked how it made me try lots of new things.

Love that photo of grandad, what a nice find for your journal ❤
it'll be a nice surprise every time I look in there...
Wow, I had forgotten just how many dreads I had put in your hair, it looked so fabulous!
Might have to do it again, would definitely appreciate the facelift effect more now!
@penelements hehe, well we have said we need to use all the things, pretty sure we still have a bag of wool sliver somewhere....might have to wait until winter though!
Hehe it took me almost the whole video to work out that the background noise I could hear was cicadas 😄
😅 that’s so funny, they are so constant here right now I didn’t even notice.
Thanks to @madpapercrush for her video - no sew journal made with a tab binding - which inspired me to try this!
