Langston and Zora Clip
มุมมอง 6839 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short clip from Langston and Zora, based on the life of Langston Hughes. Tricky one to light because it was a candle lit dinner scene and we were filming at 10 am on a sunny day. The space had a lot of natural light and so I had to black out all the windows, including one in the ceiling. I used a Pavoslim 120c as the key through an artificial silk. Camera was an Alexa 35 with Leica Summicron ...

I try to cut reels for every project I do that give you some sense of the story while just highlighting visuals. Here's a short film I shot a few months ago on the Alexa 35 and Atlas Orions. It was a really fun project to work on, loved the whole cast and crew! Pioneer Part 3 | Shot on FX3 and Alexa 35
มุมมอง 1.3K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of my favorite parts of the project was shooting all the transition shots. I listened to Hoyta Van Hoytema talk about how they shot all the Oppenheimer transition shots and thought I''d try to create a few of them myself. It was a fun process of experimentation. I shot this on Sony FX3 and ARRI Alexa 35

Your work is a huge inspiration for me. I have almost the exact kit you used to make this. With all the newer, better gear coming out, it's so tempting to think I need to upgrade to make better stuff, but you clearly prove otherwise. I can grow a LOT without changing gear! Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words, means a ton! I really appreciate you taking the time to say this, made my day. Looking forward to seeing all the magic you create pk4 I'm subbed to your channel!
LOVE the sound design!
Thank you very much! Means a lot!
Curious what mic / recorder you used for the V.O.? Was the sound FX stock or personal library?
I used the RODE NTG3, I didn't have a lot of hours with the subject so I had to record and shoot his interview in the arcade space, there was a ton of background noise, machines whirring so I did have to clean it up a bit in post.
Yeah I love this I'm glad I was actually looking up black magic cameras because This came out perfectly And you graded it well and the storytelling behind it I liked it. I really felt like I was watching an entire movie or small trailer. Good work
Thank you my friend! Means a lot!!
you use 45mm only ???
Yeah! Just the 45mm on this with a +4 diopter and in one or two shots a +10 diopter
@@storylitfilms wow
Can we get the RAW footage braw of some clips please
Hello my friend! Which shots would you like? I'll upload them to my website for download!

Amazing! What lens was this on?
Thank you tons! I am shooting on the 12-35 Lumix f2.8 and then a few shots in the interrogation room where an Atlas Orion anamorphic 65mm
Perfect ❤
Thank you!

Incredible footage! I tried to download but the folder is empty
Thank you so much my friend! Really appreciate your kind words! Ahhh someone trying to download may have accidentally deleted the contents, it's happened few times before. Let me see if I can reconnect the folder.
Alright I think it should be back up!
@@storylitfilms Thank you!!
This is fantastic! It looks amazing! For someone with an fx30, would you recommend the 45mm or 35mm Blazar Remus? I’m trying to get away with just using one lens.
Thank you for your kind words! means a lot! With the fx30 I think you'd find the 35mm better in many ways. To me it looks better, but you also have way more of the "swimming" or better called "fishbowl" effect. The distortion on the edges is wild! The advantage of the 45mm is that it crops in the field of view so you wouldn't see as much distortion. If you get the 35mm you'll definitely need some lens correction in post.
Thank you!
Hey which lenses are you using 😮
Hey my friend! I shot this mostly on the Lumix Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 with a few shots on the atlas Orion 65mm
dude, great work
With your lighting skills and the Alexa you made those cheap lenses shine.
Means a ton my friend! Thank you for watching and for your kind words! I really wanted to try these lenses on a handheld shoot because of the distortion on the edges. It was a good test for me to see how they perform. They do have a really great 3d pop to them! They don't fall flat at all. But the distortion is heavy on them!
Dude, here is someone who can do more than just talk specs. Looks amazing. Never thought that a Tokina lens can kick ass like this. But then of course it's the colors and that secret ARRI ingredient that is just magic. What do you think is the secret ARRI sauce?
Ah means a lot! Thank you for your kind words! Those Tokinas are pretty special. They create a really nice image. I don't use them as much though because they're so heavy and big haha. Im also trying to spend more time with Super 35 lenses if I can. I agree those Arri Cameras are special! Their dynamic range, color science, sensor technology, subtle sharpness, skin tone and color reproduction is top of the game. I absolutely love the Alexa 35
What lutz are you using
Hey there! This grade was a blend of various things. But I often like to use Juan Meleras film unlimited lower grade.
this is just perfect
Thank you so much! Means a lot!
Your videos are so amazing, you really know what you´re doing.
Thank you for watching and for your kind words! Means a lot to me!
Love the color grade on this! So warm and nicely saturated. Great work. Also, great edit and visual storytelling. I would watch this all day.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! Means a lot!
What is the name of the software you used for the overhead lighting layout?
Hey my friend! It used to be called "Ci-lovers group" on instagram but now I believe its called "Diagram masters" they have a kit that I believe costs $20 or so
Fabulous work!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words Brian!

beautiful film, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words!
What was your lighting setup for this short film? Lightmat and tubes?
Ok. I've found an answer in previous video. (:
Hey hey! For this project it was the ambient light + an aperture mc to wrap the light on talent. I also used blackout curtains to block unwanted spill!
Wow one of the best footage from Blazar. Still can't what to get Blazar Nero adapter for my set of vintage lenses or one Blazar Remus 45. But from what i've seen - Remus is better in terms of distortion/softness/oldschool anamorphic feel like from LOMO anamorphic.
Thank you for watching and for you kind words! Means a lot! Yes the Remus lenses are very special! The cost + the image is a lot of bang for buck! Looking forward to seeing what you create. Which vintage lenses will you be using with the adapter?
@@storylitfilms Standart set of classic soviet lenses from my grandpa - helios/mir/jupiters and some Nikkors AI-S. But from what ive seen even with vintage lenses like helios + blazar Nero the distortion on the edges and the "look" is a litle bit cleaner and more modern then from a Remus. Maybe you had experience with adapters such as Aivascope/Nero? I just don't understand how there can be such a difference if Remus is a combo of Nero adapter (front element) and a regular lens from Blazar which in theory should be very soft and look like something vintage
That’s two great vintage lens sets! Cool that it came from family too. Makes it even more special! I haven’t tried those scopes. Only scope I’ve ever used is the Schneider cinelux, I really liked it but the set up was cumbersome, so I sold it a while back. Yeah Remus has a nice little secret sauce. There’s quite a bit of distortion on the 35mm s35 but the 45mm has way less. I haven’t tried their 65mm but I heard it’s a favorite in the set.
Stunning work Joe!
Thank you so much! Means a ton!!
As someone who absolutely loves the cinematography and soundtrack in The Revenant, thank you for making this. This is amazing and very inspiring man! Well done.
Ah this means a ton! Thank you for taking the time to watch and share this comment, made my day! I absolutely love the revenant, one of my favorite movies of all time!
Also, what do you do for wb in this scene?
Hey hey! It was 4500k I believe! I might've bumped it to 5600k to get the tungsten color a bit warmer.
Stunning. Absolutely stunning
Thank you for watching and for your kind words!
very well done!
Thank you very much Tanner!
wow this looks incredible
Thank you tons Damien! Means a lot!
@@storylitfilms my pleasure I have this camera and im hoping to get the quality images you are putting out someday
@@omenmma617 Looking forward to seeing all the magic you make with it!
I'm curious how you color graded it and got that look with available light. I'm sure it's white light coming in. Did you just push your highlights over to the blues (simplified) to get the blue and orange look? You obviously had a lot of tungsten naturally in the room it seems.
Yeah that’s essentially the way it went in the grade. There was a heavy amount of tungsten inside. Running at warm 2700k. So I put the camera white balance at around 3500k for the exterior to have a stronger blue push. Then in post I pushed the warm/cool tone contrast and that’s what I ended up with.
Great work and storytelling!
Thank you very much! 🙏🏼
You missed a great opportunity with that out of service tag for the title Good Sir. The meaning and the red stands out to me. Him walking away in a long shot with focus still on the tag...ada, yada, yada.
Thanks for watching!
Great work! Which lens flare version of the remus did you use?
I used the silver, im a big fan of silvers across all anamorphic lenses.
@@storylitfilms thanks!
I'm glad this came onto my youtube feed, great storytelling with cinematography that matches perfectly!
Ah thank you for watching and taking to time share these kind words, really appreciate it!
