welding table hack
มุมมอง 53ปีที่แล้ว
Useful when you do small then large things on the welding table.
Surface Grinder attachment for a mill.

Here's a video of my FAMCO 100 used as an accurate surface grinder by using an old South Bend parts lathe. I know to start against the rotation of the wheel but this is just scrap I don't care if it burns. But it shows a good strong motor. Sorry about the crappy camera work, I actually don't know how to do this very well. Watch in HD.
modifications to an Edwards 55 ton.
มุมมอง 4002 ปีที่แล้ว
I modify all my machines. Videos of other machines coming slowly. Let me know if this is a complete waste of time or not. I have no idea what I'm doing here. Ignore the stupid face at the end, I can TIG aluminum but I can't figure how to trim the end off this video.
Mods on a Grizzly 12 x 36 lathe, or to any lathe.
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
These are modifications you can do to any lathe, I had these mods on my south bend heavy 10 and my south bend 9". Fairly easy to make, but a welder is needed. Parts from McMaster Carr, Amazon and JC Whitney.
Oh oh. Just saw the thumbnail. Did you lambo the door on the Ford truck? How was that done?!?
Yea I did that and a lot more. I spent 27 years on that truck. I converted it to four wheel drive customized everything, 24" all custom hand built lift. did the car show circuit in the 80s and 90s. Then sold it.
Late to the game here but the info is brilliant. Slick idea on the power feeder. Still thinking on the power feeder gear reduction. That is a slick idea. That would make it a bit easier to use a VFD on the spindle and not have the feed rate change on facing operations.. Thoughts on the rack mounted low on the tailstock? It would add a twist if you use it for drilling. Digital caliper adaptation is also spot on smart. Three thumbs up!
Thank You. Yea I put the rack at the center line. Best I think. low would work if the tailstock lock is slightly on.
I’m no welder but as a woodworker with a small shop I definitely enjoy your organization ideas. Subscribed
Awesome, thank you!
I've got a small shop as well, definitely going to borrow the rollerblade wheels and lunch tray ideas. Thanks for sharing
Glad I could help, thanks buddy.
Iots of creative ideas and fixes
Great peek in, Thanks mt friend.
Awesome, you inspire us plebes who say we ran out of room to do better!
1:35.. and you gotta make sure your worm clamp is calibrated ☝️ 8:45.. hahaha. .I used these too..The bags that sheet sets (bedding) come in work too..
It actually clamps down nice and square, you just wiggle it a little and tighten, and it finds its home parallel and perpendicular.
What I didn't show that I should've is the two lasers rotate independently to adjust it.
Wow! Every nook and crany it amazing what you do with every inch! I'm impressed!
Dude,... thank you!
Cool idea. I just went through about a dozen or more of the stamped wrenches you get when you buy a router or die grinder, or table saw. That was three weeks ago.......Three weeks later I've already mixed them up again. I'll try the tape idea for the win! tHanks
Excellent, good luck.
Do you ever get tempted to paint the floor? I have painted concrete floors in basements and one in a storage space, however all the workshop space I don't paint. Meanwhile if you look in modern factories they have super clean floors. I'm wondering weather working in a brighter space would boost my moral. ....I'm tempted.
It was painted fresh when I bought the house 11 years ago. It's not doing too bad for this much time.
I really liked this video. Great ideas. I saw a few more that the camera passed over. I too moved one tool down under the bench top because it would only make on specific cut for me. tHanks for the video
Thank you, we do what we Gotta do don't we.
Great video, every tip n trick for organizing in limited space is a good one.
These videos are great. I just picked up a G4003 lathe. It’s great that you are sharing these tips. I have a lot to learn!
Typical Chinese crap
Thank you for sharing. Pretty much all the thing that I've been knit picking at for the last few weeks.
You're welcome, thanks for watching. Good luck.
The handle extension will wear your gibs out prematurely. The circular ring mount in the culprit. I replaced mine with a piece of .625 plate and made it a four bolt. The two bolts on the ring mount are a pivot point for serious deflection. I see you machine brass. I machine steel and can use a carbide parting tool without any lube or coolant. The gibs probably have assembly crud on them, if you have not taken it apart and cleaned it. I have a Grizzly G0752.
All clean and tight, no movement. And this is not a production machine those jibs will last 5 of my lifetimes so no problem for me anyway.. Thanks for the response I did flat file the jib, it wasn't perfect a tiny bow, maybe I'll check it again. But I do like the slow control with the extra handle.
5/16 grade 8 carriage bolts. www.amazon.com/dp/B000H5SHLW?...
33 feet x 25 mm for $7.89...not bad at all...thanks bunches.....
love the Tape Idea, being an old fart my self..... using the pinky finger for support does not work.... we used to use a teflon tape back in the 80;s on the Animation Camera I used in Hollywood.... it was used between the camera head, and the lens system... this was on a $30,000 camera.....and it was slick as owl poo on a glass door knob... going to check out your link to tape... Best Wishes....PB
Wow cool story, hope it helps.
hey Bob, new subscriber here......kool channel, cheers from Florida, Paul
Thanks pal.

Thanks for the previous info, do you have the numbers for what you ordered from Mc Mas----- please, the rack and pinion and what else is from them?👍👍👍👍
www.mcmaster.com/products/rack-and-pinion-gears/metal-gears-and-gear-racks-20-pressure-angle/ here's the page for rack and pinion, hope this helps.
I love and hate Amazon. Great TIG ideas!
I hear ya, and thanks
Interesting set up.
Some nice ideas, really like the welding rod organizer. Nice shop.
Thanks
Missed how you attached the rack and pinion to the tail stock end. Did see you have a pin to unhook it but what did you do where it's attached to wheel shaft? Have a Grizzly G-0709, really like it for the price. Great ideas, Now you need to make a lever for the carriage stop, and get rid of the allen wrench, 👍👍👍👍
A small eyeball fitting welded to a nut that fits hand wheel nut. The rack has a slot that takes the fitting in and has a drill bit cut and pressed into aluminum knob.
Love the rack and pinion, that's a great idea.
Thank You.
Good ideas, both. Thank You. I have a Taiwan lathe from the 1990s that must have been the inspiration for the Grizzly and similar. Either my motor shorted, or the relays did. Had a big arc and fire out the control box. That's been a head scratcher, but I think I finally have new relays wired correctly and a Grizzly replacement motor to hook up today. Of course nothing fits, you have to make it.
I have done the motorized feed on an old monarch in similar manner,. Hooked up an adjustable limit switch onto a carriage stop. Works excellent when turning multiple cuts to a shoulder.
Cool!
Great idea. Great work thx for sharing
I think I am going to throw up...
Great vid, thanks for posting, you have a nice shop.
Thank You
Can you take that dro off and reinstall it and make a video. Need wondering where and the heck to mount one on mine when I purchase the dro. Thanks
Price lathe please
about 5,000$ for the lathe and 2,000 for stand.
Well done!
Thank you!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks!
Thanks for sharing idol
