    Cam degreeing is normally NOT necessary. However it would be helpful in determining if your timing set is the factory retard style or not. Its really not hard to do and doesn't require super fancy stuff you couldn't just get at your local China Freight. Every cam I've degreed, was dead nuts on it's grind.... so in most cases, it's really not necessary. So IF your timing set is an earlier straight up style, the gear would have been thinner in the eccentric area and the cam pin would have protruded through to grab ahold of the 1 pc fuel pump eccentric. IF the cam pin does NOT protrude through, chances are you have a timing set for a later retarded setup that has a 2-pc eccentric. Those 2pc eccentrics have a metal tab that inserts into the cam pin hole in the timing gear. That's what steadies it along with the cam center bolt. The bolt alone WILL NOT hold that eccentric by itself. Over time it will loosen and eventually cause the cam bolt to back out.

Not the prettiest pickup, and it left me stranded just outside of Washtucna in the middle of Winter; however, I still liked it. I had to sell it when I went into the military. Also, watch your audio levels. You were blowin everybody that watch out! lol Assuming you are using an editing program, keep an eye on the audio as you go along. • @OlysGarage
    @OlysGarage 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You will get better with time (videoing and editions) so don't worry so much about that. Just keep at it. Yeah i goofed up on my 460 when i built it. The compression height wound up being different from what the book said and I was kinda in a crunch. When combined with my D3 heads ended up being 8.7:1 which actually isn't horrible, but not the 9.5 that I was shooting for. At that time Forged was the only thing available that would have fixed it and I didn't have the money for those. Oregon cams is AWESOME. I use them all the time. I have one of his custom regrinds in my FE (10 years now) and love it. Used his cams in various others. The 460 I built wound up with a comp XE262 which is kinda noisy. It pulls like a freight train though. Around 275hp but 466ft lbs of Tq. It averages 12mpg in my 78 F150 SCab 2wd swb. No real complaints. I did however put the later football rods in mine, as i tend to get a little heavy on the foot with the rpms. Little extra insurance.

    The DOVE intake is actually a good intake for low end grunt and mid-range cruising. That D6VE had a spreadbore Carb on it. Could have been a 4350 model Autolite or a Holley Spredbore... it's scrap fodder in reality. That Streetmaster is just a single plane version of the S.P.2.P. (Dual plane), you really don't see many at all. WHY that one has such narrow ports? I have no idea... most other street masters I've had for other engines were not like that. I'd run the DOVE intake all day long. No, not all 385 series had guideplates, just the earlier ones. They went to pedestal rockers in 1973. '68-'71 Heads are the good ones. '73 was next gooder. Avoid '72s at all costs. D1VE casting in block was used until 1979 so you gotta go by the date code for actual year of block.

    • @Dr.Garage76
      @Dr.Garage76 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My understanding now.. is the heads are PI heads and those used guide plates and had larger valves than standard production heads, other than the CJ heads. I like the street master on my 390. It also had smaller ports. My understanding is that it's a 70s gas embargo era intake. Edelbrock did come out with porting instructions on how to port them for performance. Popular intakes for the EFI swaps. My plan is to run the Dove intake unless i find a deal on something better. Thanks for watching..

      @@Dr.Garage76 ah yes the P.I. heads. Thats possible. Need to pull the codes from the heads to find out what they are.. One thing to be careful of, its real easy to get too high of compression with the wrong combo. The nice thing about these 385 series is it don't take much to build power.
