Match Fishing Basics - Using EVA Foam Winders - Storing Hooklengths Using Foam Rig Winders
Match Fishing Basics - Using EVA Foam Winders
EVA Foam winders are perfect for storing multiple long hooklengths. They are great for storage of things like feeder and waggler hooklengths that can be to long to store in normal hooklength boxes. If used correctly they can hold many hooklengths on one winder without the problem of line tangles.

    How do you know what size silicone to use for different floats please?

    • @JP.MatchFishing
      @JP.MatchFishing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't believe there's a written rule on the exact sizes to use, But generally the finer the float stem the smaller the silicone diameter you can use. As long as your silicone holds the float firmly on the mainline without it moving to easily you should have no problems whilst fishing. Hope this helps 🤞

    Thanks for the video. When would you choose a spread bulk as opposed to a bulk together above the hook length? Thanks

    • @JP.MatchFishing
      @JP.MatchFishing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would personally only really use a fixed bulk pattern for some margin rigs and jigga rigs. The spread bulk helps to create a curve in your line when fishing on the deck aiding with bite indication. Jamie Hughes has spoken in depth about this on other videos. Hope this helps, thanks for watching. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣

    Is there a general rule of thumb as to when to use a 4" hook length or a 6" when pole fishing? Thanks

    • @JP.MatchFishing
      @JP.MatchFishing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think there're many different reasons to use different hooklengths. Things like bait presentation, target species, rig type can all play a part in selecting your hooklength. I know some of the bigger channels have covered this topic in detail, but the most important thing is using something that you have confidence in. Keep it simple. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

      @JP.MatchFishing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the video, why would you use a 6" hook length in the margin when it's probably less than 4ft deep. Only asking because as a general rule of thumb I would use a 4" hook length for depths of up to 4ft and 6" for anything deeper. Thanks

    • @JP.MatchFishing
      @JP.MatchFishing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I prefer using the longer hooklengths in the margin as I believe the carp can become spooked sometimes if they bump into a heavy bulk of shot whilst feeding, also your bites will normally be extremely positive so I don't think you need the shot as close to your hooklength to see the bites. This is only my opinion, if something works for you, and you have confidence in it, don't change it!!! 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

      Years back the UK government actually banned the use of lead split shot bigger than No. 8 to protect wildlife from lead poisoning. Although nearly all shot are now non toxic I personally never use a split shot bigger than size 8 on a still water. The use of smaller shots now seems to be more common practice when fishing commercial waters. Hope this helps 🎣🎣🎣
