I’m Sam,
I’m competing in the Welsh Rally Championship in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta R2T. This is my (and my co-driver James Seymour’s) first time in a multi-venue championship, and also our first time on gravel!
I began competing in motorsport in the F1000 junior rally championship. In our first year (2021) I achieved first English driver. In my second and last year in the series (2022) I came second in the championship, winning several rallies.
So far in the 2023 season I have done one rally, the Plains. The reason I had only done one by May is because I needed to pass my road driving test first! The Plains was a great experience for both James and myself, we came 2nd in class on several stages, which for the first time on a gravel event, we’re pleased with. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the boost pipe blew off and we were forced to drive in ‘limp mode all through the afternoon.

Rainworth Skoda Stages 2022 - Driver: Sam Mason - Co-driver: James Seymour This video is stage 4 we were 2nd in this stage and 2nd overall too and only by 12 seconds by the end of the whole event. The times between 1st and 2nd were so close throughout, it was brilliant fun! 1st and 2nd were also around 1 minute 30 ahead of 3rd! Just goes to show how much the competition makes crews speed up! - ...

Where did this guy learn to drive , poor clutch and gearbox
Sometimes at high speed you can get rear end drift with the GT6 beautiful looking car though especially the MK3.
Is that a different engine or a tuned one? If so how can I do it to my ‘72 gt6?
It is largely standard but it is running triple webber carbs. Still only 100bhp though!
@@SamMasonRallySportwow! Gear shifts weren’t great, but I understand. Is there anything else that has been done to it because I want to do those mods it sounds beautiful!!!!! ❤
Haha no I agree. I was going for a quick run in this one so double-clutching would have been smoother but I wasn’t after smooth I was after fast and that’s not fast😂 the reason was is that Shelsley Walsh is such a steep hillclimb and the car is so slow I need to keep as much momentum as possible so I just went for a quick shift. There really isn’t that much modification done to it, the Webber carbs are the most significant. It has an aftermarket exhaust so does sound good but I don’t know the brand. Sorry

Downshifts into second gear sound horrendous. Brings back memories of my ‘68 GT6 not long before I replaced the transmission.
That was my fault, terrible downshift! Not normally like that but my shoes an peddle placement mean I find it hard to heel and toe fast in that car!

Is it stock, or did you add any performance parts to it for the event?
It is not standard, it had been modified to do road rallying. It has had some minor work done engine wise but still only around 100bhp!
Do you mind sharing what you have done/replaced/upgraded when you get a sec?
