Waltham Abbey: The Church of Harold Godwinson
Who knew that you could go visit the (purported) grave of Harold Godwinson, the last king of Anglo-Saxon England, on the London Overground?! Waltham Abbey is a fantastic town with many other historical sites, but I had eyes only for those gorgeous pillars.
I kind of want to do a reel about that Doom Painting, but you may be tired of Waltham by now...

มุมมอง 44K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Built in 1060, Greensted Church is the oldest wooden church in the world, and possibly the oldest wooden building in Europe, a remarkable testament to early English craftsmanship. However, it also raises some questions. What does it mean for a building to be the oldest of its kind, and do later renovations make its status less chronologically distinct? Let's discuss! I’m so excited to share thi...

My beloved late grandmum was born in 598 !
The only time the Virgin Mary visited England? That’s ridiculous.
Give you 1 guess who ruined most of these ?? VICTORIANS
It’s amazing.
I'm glad you popped up as a suggestion, I love this church and it's been on my bucket list for a while now.
What about All Hallows-by-the-Tower?
I really enjoy watching your channel. Always interesting and informative. Keep up the good work ❤
Oldest street in Europe from 1100 is in Bergen. Norway
Perfect use of Oblivion music.
THE RESIDENCE OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WAS FOUND TO HAVE BODIES BURIED UNDER THE FLOOR DATED AROUND THE PERIOD THAT HE LIVED THERE.
Love your reactions!! Ha ha
Wow, wow, wow!
Unlike America where we want everything new..and cheap and unlasting. Your country is beautiful!
580? Incredible!
Hot wells of Bristol sounds like a euphemism
If those walls could talk
Belle le vetrate.
Destroyed in 1540 by..........mmmm.
Ahh the Victorians - always remaking the past in their own image.
"Hopefully the residents have more modern plumbing." In Britain don't be sure.
Uma cidade bonita 👏👏👍🌹
Yes they all lived like kings,as opposed to the peasantry!!!
Medieval fresco on the dome and walls are beautiful
Love your information. I recently visited The Church of St Martin In Canterbury while there on holiday after seeing your video.
Destroyed by Protestants
(Slaps roof of one of these houses) "This bad boy can hold ten thousand ghosts in it, with room to spare."
This was such a pleasure! Thank you, viewed from West Virginia, USA 🇺🇸 ❤
Hmm I FIRE YOU SAY 😮
Plenty of English churches outside London older than that.
Pretty much it smelled like New York or LA., so everyone can get an idea.
Fascinating and clever!
You've got to find a more interesting hobby if your letting this prey on your mind 😂
ThanK God Britain isn't a holy land, otherwise ISIS would be trying to blow this up.
Is that where they filmed part of the film called The Nun 2
How beautiful! ❤
I've watched too much comedy and thought this was going to be a bit (sorry!), but ended up incredibly enriched with some new info to investigate. Thanks!
Jarring to see, but I respect their point: “Don’t get too full of yourself; under fine clothes or rags, we’re all just flesh & bone.”
Beautiful.
Meat? Did they not follow the monastic diet? Nothing that walks upon four legs.
You're so beautiful. ❤❤❤
Take it from a Peterborough boy it’s pronounced as “Botulf”. We know our saint
❤
Hate to be pedantic, but needleworkers don't create tapestries. They are woven, not worked. Pickickness aside yet another fabulous vid❤️❤️❤️
You’re right! 😂 poor phrasing on my part - I’ve never known much about that side of history
Hey, hey, hey... I feel I might be responsible for this one! 😊 Yesss.... Well worth the visit, wasn't it? #ToldYouSo
❤
So amazing!
Haunted 💯
Recently I visited a church with paintings made around year 1500 and while most were scenes from the Bible or pictures of saints, there were also couple of devils riding horses while humans were touching the horse's testicles because...well, I guess there must have been a perfectly logical reason that made sense to people back then.
Brilliant vid, as per, makes me look up these places. Can't help myself though...Trump lie dating back to the 12th century. I've gone and made it political
It's weird that the same people who mock the simplicity of Mediæval art will applaud Impressionist art. Bizarre. Mediæval art is beautiful, and I love it.
