MacLennan Scottish Group at the 2014 Europeade in Kielce, Poland, dancing their main solo item in the Arena. POV is too close to show the full group and the dance, but I think it gives a good lively and busy impression.

Holy mythical bird shite Batman...
i lick my duter i love her
Such a simple dance, but I remember dancing it with a bunch of people who were not used to it, and we all fell about laughing at the remarkable number of mistakes some of us were making. Great fun, and a great memory.
It would be great to see this type of DANCING again !!

Update and explaanation; while the competition was being prepared, we decided tha\t this video should be for the Judges Only. I put it up here just so it could be transmitted to them, then made it Private again, until the competition was under way. It is now PUBLIC again. Please remember, that this is not much of a Performance; it was to help the judges tell if the verses were singable.
OMG! We used to do this dance to this song at Primary school in 1998/1999ish aha :)
apologies i didnt realise i had replies to my comment, its interesting that the song goes back to the 17th century but i always thought it was called 'youre the one for me' we did country dancing at primary school, new road school in sowerby bridge to be exact,i remember us singing it in the school hall, sowerby bridge, the town is famous for its rushbearing festival and morris dancing, usually around 1st 2nd september, and there is a pub called the rushcart
Absolutely fabulous! How did they manage to visit Estonia without announcing that on Strathspey server? ;-) How dearly i regret of not knowing about that event...
Hellow I like this clip because you sing one of my favorite songs "Molly Mellone".
Not as clear as it was on the iPad. It loses quite a lot when reduced to MP4 format.

Sorry, folks. there were supposed to be all sorts of captions and credits.
Sorry; something odd has happened; after the video has played, it seems to have been loaded again without sound. I will try and sort that soon.
a few buckets are tipped onto the wide-mesh, then any brick, slate, stones and other large stuff go into the skip. The rest is examined in the smaller-mesh frame, and anything of any possible interest isplace in another bucket (out of sight in front of the skip) for later examination. Recently quite a few coins have been found.
A joy to watch, Great footwork
Lots of fun. I love the Macdonald of Sleat part of the demo.
Great footwork & covering, but what I like most about this group is their enthusiasm and their bouncy pas de basques and slip steps. Too many RSCDS group are stuck in the Miss Milligan approach to technical steps and academic approach in SCD. It is not surprising that beginners drop out from boredom. Any social dancers would do well by emulating the style I see here and in the Macdonald of Sleat demo by the same group.
Thanks to all who have shown interest and commented. Do have a quick look on SPOTIFY, where there is a CD called "Le Petit Ours Brun" Vol 111, which is full of French children's songs. You can have a listen free or pay to download the tracks (or as many as you like) legally, and no doubt somebody will sell you a CD. (Amazon & eBay do not appear to have this exact item - mainly printed books)
it's a popular song that had been sang by the imprisoned, during the Franco-Dutch War, 17th century.
Muchas gracias, oleiros.
Congratulations and greetings from Galiza. Galicia is not sPAIN!
The Irish in England shouldn't "forget" their roots (the island of Ireland). The Yanks don't forget. sláinte
The recitation was done (beautifully) by Ronan MacGabhann. Good man, yourself!
That was sweet.
Ah! Poor Dad; missing all the fun! Next time, come and join us, both of you. Thanks for getting in touch,
my dads just in the other bar drinking a pint at the end of the bar I dare say lol
Jackie is on at about 0m55.
Thank you Ann (and Ron!) Please do Share the link with any Merseysiders you are in touch with. Please note that this video is NOT "all my own work" but was (very professionally) made as a commission for the Carl Bernard Bartels event. It still make me laough alound every time I view it.
This was sent to me by Ron Fitzpatrick in Australia. I think it is really great, showing the Scouse humour at the end. I,m lucky enough to be able to read the time on the clock from ""över the water""
Thanks for responding, Terry. I do hope you have used SHARE to send this to every scouser you know (and some you don't!) What we need next is Joe Anderson's Giant Liver Bird up on Everton Heights. One in the eye for Angel of the North.
me too...Bosworth School, Harold Hill, Essex circa 1972 :-)
@craigfromboro same here! That's why I came looking for this hahaha! :-)
The tune used for this dance was originally written by MOZART (I believe) and became a (rather raunchy) FRENCH song called "Aupres de ma blonde" (try Google) about how I love to Sleep alongside my fair-haired lady! The dance calls for the music to be played seven times through, and only this tune will fit, so that is why we play it in a few different keys, to avoid aural boredom.
can anyone sort me more info on this song,is there a version released on cd?i used to dance to this in 1987 or 1988 at primary school found it by pure chance thankyou very much uploader i been wondering what this song was for 23 years its one of them tunes u cant forget :)
Hey Becca; I can't tell from "aaaaah" whether you love or hate doing this dance in your school. I do hope you enjoy doing this kind of dancing.
Unfortunately, the nearest we can get to the Liver Birds is the top floor (by special arrangement) then out onto the promenade deck. But then you can only see a Bird's Tail peeping over one corner. You get a good view of the Back of the other Bird from only 100 feet away, but the closer you get the less you see. Come to the new Museum of Liverpool in the summer, and you can stand beside a (sort of) full size replica. NB I did not do this climb; this is just copied from a TV programme.
This was one off my nans friends xxxx
thankyou Bozen
var ygood thankyou for Bozen
Grazie, Fer. Borgosesia vanno al festivale nombrato "EUROPEADE" tutti gli anni. Le conselho visitare gli videos de "europade" de molte anne, perche e molto possibile vedere questo gruppo. @gbj1941 Oh thanks very much. Normally whatever I hear John sing . . . I fall in love lol :P
The song is "Unforgettable" ("That's what you are" ) recorded by Johnny Mathis (and many others)
what song is this?
Thanks for the visit and the comment, Guy, This is a very English, very old, most unfairly ridiculed and very worthy form of folk dance. You will find quite a few more Mersey Morris videos on youtube, along with other Morris "sides" (as the teams are called) Try merseymorrismen in google and you will soon find their page.
