I watched Gravity Falls while it was still coming out on Disney and even had a tiny watch party with my best friend when Weirdmageddon first aired.( (As much as I could while in high school😂) Years later after my mother passed, to spend time with my dad I offered to show him Gravity Falls and he loved it so much that he still watches episodes while he Channel surfs. He even wanted to cosplay as Grunkle Stan! Even now, in 2024, my husband got into the lore of Bill Cipher and then wanted to watch the show. We recently got The Book of Bill and we've both dove head first into the Fandom(for me I never left, I got Journal 3 soon after it came out) and have been enjoying the heck out of rewatching the show and finding new details and codes. I can't thank you enough Alex for giving me such a fun world to enjoy with the people I love in my life. Thank you to Syosset Public Library for this amazing interview!

This book is another great example of Disney's virtual signaling, saying one thing but doing something completely contradictory behind everyone's back. There is one picture of Cipher doing an apology video while playing a xylophone, which is an obvious reference to Colleen Ballinger. This could be a sign that they stand with her victims, right? Well, here comes the virtual signaling: they invited her brother and sister-in-law to a Percy Jackson event, even having the stars appear in one of their videos. They are just as guilty as Colleen was; they participated too. However, Colleen took the majority of the blame and attention. Everyone in her family participated in the traumatization of children.

Wonderful interview! I've listened to the commentary tracks for Gravity Falls a couple too many times because I can never get tired of listening to Alex talk lol, so this was really fun. I always love hearing his tangents on where he drew inspiration from- the connection he made between Nikola Tesla and Ford in a previous interview, and now the connection between Robert Durst and Bill- so good (and a great question that prompted it!). "What is something Bill says that is a lie literally, but is a truth metaphorically?" I can't wait to find out. And the way he described his writing process as just "tuning in" to character's voices- I think that's the first time I've heard that, and it makes me wish I could steal his brain haha. Thanks to him for the experimental chaos bouquet, and thanks to you guys for this vid :)

Apparently, this book looked out at me-fairy tales have been spun for thousands of years and remain among our most treasured stories. Now, a diverse group of acclaimed YA writers, weaves familiar works with unexpected reimaginings. I thought they were visualizing the 3 time structure but then I got the whole enchilada. It is funny when you reach the middle.

I may not be the target audience for these books (a straight dude), but GOD am I glad I picked them up! I loved the characters in both books, the settings, all of it! Andrew has such a talent to bring a world to life with its characters, environment, and the supernatural elements. It's also such a breath of fresh air to see supernatural elements be unique and distinguishable! I loved the use of spirits on the second book so much cuz it actually felt like something different, something new! And idk how tf he did it, but Andrew's the first writer to actually get me invested in the characters' love story. Like- it's a whole new concept for me- I always hated the love story between the main character and some other person I barely bothered to remember. I was always like: "STOP KISSING AND GO KILL THE BAD GUY!!!" But in Hell Followed With Us and The Spirit Bares Its Teeth? I actually cared for once! In short, I love these books, and I can't WAIT to read everything else he's got cooking!

Thank you for making this podcast. It was great to get to know Andrew better. I just finished reading The spirit bares it’s teeth. My best friend gave it to me as a birthday present and both of us being queer and neurodivergent ourselves had an incredible experience reading it. We cried, we had to stop because it was too much to take sometimes but we also feasted on queer rage and love. I think the best thing of this book is that I had the chance to share a piece of horror trans autistic fantasy with my dear friend. I’m so thankful for that. Can’t wait to read Hell followed with us. 🏳️‍🌈❤️
