I remember living near SeaTac and my grandparents living in the flight path of O'Hare, and both were pretty loud, but it also depended on how high the airplanes were by the time they flew over 💖✈️✈️💖

Throughout the 80s and early 90s I worked extensively with both 707s and DC8s, both were great aircraft. Sound wise I’d have to go with the 707. However, I thought the DC8-63 sounded very similar, both having the ‘buzz saw’ sound. The CFM DC8s had a sound all their own!

...grew up in Milwaukee WI just north of the airport. We had both 707-320s for Northwest and DC-8 10s/20s for United tat passed pretty much over the house whne taking off and landing. The DC-8s were definitely louder as they had the JT3C-6 turbojets while the 707's had JT3D low bypass turbofans.

Of all the turboprop planes, this one in my opinion has the most amazing sound in the world.

Doesn’t both aircraft have the same Pratt and Whitney JT3 engines installed?

DC-8 has a higher pitch which makes it louder to my ears. Like the 707's forward take off "grinder" sound. Loved both aircraft. DC-8 was the better platform on many levels but Boeing had the market.
