@bradgezen Thank, you! I only do this for 50 percent of my shoots. I find that it's rare to have 1 cable, haha. I typically have like 5 cables for audio and video, etc..
@Matthew_Chung I just mean rigging out cameras in general don't get to do it too much and don't have much of the stuff for it
@bradgezen it's a slow process! You definitely don't need half the stuff I showed in the video. Small cameras allow for different needs for every shoot.
@Matthew_Chung that is very true!
How do you get touch focus to work?
@brettalexander.studio In camera, It's under touch operation in setup tab. The monitor I used is the monitor + app which allows me to trigger that without having my lcd flipped out.
Typically, you tap the part of the image you want to track, but of course, you do this by having the built-in screen opened.
Nice rig, man. Very clean. You should add a list of the parts you used (and their links) in case anyone wants to replicate it.

100% agree and definately reflect on what @MrZerosami2 has commented. The cineback is a cool unit but there are other (cheaper) alternatives to this same rig. Great stuff Matt, cool to hear a realistic opinion on here.
hey bro great video , just a shame you were not able to pump the light harder , ending with the window blown out in the start and end
@shaunmaia6498 yes. I do mention that's why you need a 300w or even a 600w to battle the sunlight. I guess if you get a clean shot you can mask the windows and lower the exposure of the windows.
But I would allways expose for the skin as blown out windows are less important then a face that's to dark in most cases .
@@shaunmaia6498 Of course it depends on the scene. I've seen some people put shower curtain over the windows to diffuse the clipped highlights.

Another audio tip worth doing when it comes to mixing/editing is De-essing when it comes to spoken dialogue. Saying words with high energy sibilants can break viewers' immersion in a video and tire their ears, annoying them if exposed to sibilants for too long.

Thank Matthew for this HONEST review of Cineback. As of today, October 8th, 2024, yours is the ONLY one that says the Cineback is basically a D tap splitter, very heavy compared to other camera modifiers, and it makes it difficult for the user to press the Mode button on his camera. This is exactly what I need to know to make an informed decision of buying a camera modifier.
@@mauriciolee7349 no worries! Happy to help
Dunno Matt, I have the FX30 version, it does fit tight but that is good. Still, there is enough clearance to use all the buttons, no problems at all and I am bug guy, like 1'90(m) and 100kg+.
@@cristiat I might just have fat thumbs!
Great engagement. Simple fact of the matter is you CAN use an iPhone to shoot. Don't think they ever told anyone user their setup except they show what's possible. I know it's your opinion that "the point is to be minimal", but shot on iPhone simply means an iPhone was the camera. I have rigged up my phone sometimes because it's easier to shoot that way and I didn't have the funds to have a good video camera yet.
That's fair. I do see iphones working really good with bts footage.
Was this video necessary ☠️
Well, it seems like it worked. My channel is smaller, so I guess I can talk about anything
@@Matthew_Chung well fair 😂.
And why do you rig a RED bro? That should be cringe too in your way of thinking
Not really, red and other cameras physically require a lens. The iPhone already has a lens, and slapping a lens on top of it ruins the measurements of the lens.
Bro, you can get nice results too by just adding a filter, a good third party app and knowing the best angles. In some cases you can use negative and positive fill. They rig it up in cinema mode to make it seem as good as a Red or Arri.
Of course, you can use filters. I'm just saying that an external lens is a bit overkill
You're totally right. It's always cool seeing what they can do with the expensive gear, but when you add on extra glass, perfect lighting, etc, it takes away from the real world implications. Not to mention, an old 2010 Canon Rebel would look just as good with the same attachments and lighting.
Makes no sense to go for a phone over a red or fx6 😅
To clarify some of the comments: The iPhone is not what makes it cringy. What makes it is the not so smart financial decision to rig out a phone when you can go for a mirrorless or compact cinema setup. Of course, the iPhone is impressive, no doubt. Just kinda beats the whole point of a "phone camera" Hopefully this clears up.
Title & " Clarified " are so cringe too... so lame ... tsk tsk tsk
@tanjingwei9483 if it works, it works 🫡😉
bro you completely missed the point.
I mean if you really have the budget. Would you rig out a 15 pro instead of a red? Iphone is good. Don't get me wrong. Just use it as a phone.
@@Matthew_ChungExactly 👌🏽👏
First, your video is under-volume. Second, the video has many awkward silences. Third, it is poorly edited or not edited at all. "Shot on iPhone" isn't cringe; in fact, it proves how well you can push your iPhone or any other smartphone to go cinematic without requiring any lens or attachments. Watch one of "fpt."'s latest videos where they complain about the new iPhone 16. I hope this will change your perspective on iPhones and help you improve the quality of your TH-cam videos.
Will work on that thanks.
Still living in 2000s & thinking shot on iphone in Cringe ?🤣
You clearly didn't watch my video. Iphone is not cringe. Rigging out a phone when you clearly have the budget for a camera is what makes it cringe.
I truly dont notice video better than what a iphone x can shoot
True! If we talk social media, iphone is completely fine.
It's increasingly common to hear "Oh but they're using this expensive light and all this expensive gear and this expensive rig..." Yes they are because they would have use it anyway regardless of whether or not they used the iPhone. The idea is that when the iPhone is used in a professional setting, it can be used as a professional camera. You don't have to, but it's something you can do. Most of this commentary comes from people who already have a camera, some of us don't have a camera that can shoot 4K HDR 422 10-bit LOG. Point a camera that is less expensive (Body and lens) than the iPhone 16 Pro ($999) and can offer the same (or better) results. New up-and-coming filmmakers, remember; getting the job done supersedes the gear you use.
exactly, people act like since they're not using the bare iphone they didnt actually take the video on iphone, its like saying you arent really using a camera if you use attachments.
@@immfi yeah but if you are attaching lenses and rigging the camera then you're saying that the iphones lenses are not good enough and if you are going to be alltering the camera anyways why not use a better one?
For me at least, I would not sacrifice sensor size and lens choice even for the price of 15 pro. Similar to a used gh5 or s5 which both have better sensors. Ofc af is better on iphone but still.
@@NikaLominatze Don't you attach lenses to a camera anyway? Don't you attach adapters to use lenses of different mounts (FE > PL)? What's the difference? By using lenses of different mounts, are you saying the lenses made specifically for your camera aren't good enough? 😵💫
"some of us don't have a camera that can shoot 4K HDR 422 10-bit LOG" THAT PART
The funny thing is when you add an external lens to the iPhone the LiDAR sensor thinks you are trying to take a macro shots and will swap between cameras and wont focus. Am I missing something or are these guys getting a much better camera app than what ships with iPhone?
Blackmagic Camera App is pretty good.
Its just apple marketing at work, same as they pay movies to make good guys have iphone and badguys anything else
It works honestly.
your haircut is more cringe
Yeah haven't got my cut in a while
“This camera is possible to achieve this”. It makes sense because if you take out a $12 fujifilm camera from 2006 with all the side gear, it wouldn’t look like the shot on iPhone stuff. Also when a movie uses a camera, it’s not just the camera we all know. So the advertisement isn’t lying or anything. It is still shot on the phone and they pushed it to the max like all pros do with every camera. Still impressive imo
@SheikAshii ofc but at that point, use an actual sensor.
Yeah every pro can fabricate a completely custom and ridiculous lens setup on to their shitty platform to make it look passing.. No they can't news flash no one but apple is going to have this equipment for their "shot on iPhone"
Yeah shot on film is also cringe. It doesn't matter that you are shooting on film when the lens you are using is upwards of 20-30 thousand dollars for a film camera. See how ignorant your point is. The whole point is of how good the film is that you are shooting on. In this case, it would be the sensor and the imagine processing.
Lenses equally matter. All I'm saying is if you have the budget for a expensive lens, mind as well shoot on a better format
Do you use nd filter and which one u using 😮

I agree but it’s funny because I go to concerts and they take away my camera but I slide with my iPhone and external lenses and mic 😅so basically better with stabilized camera in my pocket but when people see me with a camera rig they say… no cameras allowed phone is ok 😮so it’s funny because my naked phone is better than my camera stripped down and I have an option to rig it once I’m in the venue no one bats an eye but once I’m vlogging with camera it’s not allowed but vlogging on the phone is ok ✅ 👍 everything is just so cringe 😂❤
I mean it depends on the workflow. Iphone is not cringe. Just the rigging.
@@Matthew_Chung I still use an extra lens at a concert 🥺

If you used a professionally camera you use all the same entree equipment what's the difference.
Same price as starter 10bit camera, different sensor size.
lol bro you’re cringe
Missed my point but thanks for watching!
You dont know what you are talking about. They don't use anything less for an Arri camera in terms of support gear. Infact , they didnt use any cinema glass or any lens for the apple event that was shot on an iphone if u check the BTS. They could have done that , but they didnt -. The whole point is to showcase how it stacks up to a cinema camera in a high production environment , They use the same "90% of support that actually does the majority of the work " for the Arri cameras as well . They don't use anything + for the iphone that they wouldn't use in any high production shoot. This is a high production shoot showcase , ofc they will use high production equipment , but you are comparing it to a low budget " i grabbed my iphone and went to the market w it to shoot something " . This was never the point. Also for ppl who does not have a second camera body but have spare cine glass, you can easily throw your iphone on a gimbal w a DOF adapter and some cine glass now as your B camera for a concert or interview . W apple log you can color match it very well to a Sony. You glance over these facts , this is not MADE to use in a high production environment , They are just showing that it does work there as well.
At that point, it's easier to use an actual camera, no? No doubt it's capable
@@Matthew_Chung sure but that is not the point the point is to showcase capability in a high production. Also as iv mentioned if you have glass but need a second body for an interview or a concert it’s literally capable enough to match with your main camera which is a game changer. And also ppl w no cinema gear can learn on an iPhone and slowly transition to a real camera while the iPhone can remain their B cam .
@@poti732 of course. I mentioned iphone is beneficial where you can take your big set up like concerts
@@poti732 I don't see whats game changing about it. You could record log on iPhones and other phones using third party software before, and most serious people will use the Blackmagic app instead of the native one anyways. You can go and grab any other device and make the same shots and hone your skills without swallowing the marketing hype and overspending on something that's pretending to be some kind of novelty. If they were serious about filmmaking and not just moving units, they wouldn't have neglected Final Cut for half a decade and gave us more control over the iPhone camera. But for now, the most control you have is with picture profiles, which are still way too basic and aren't even available for video.
@@poti732 no it’s not capable enough to match. The sensor is tiny and the camera has all sorts of noise reduction and artificial sharpening (both at which are extremely heavy) that make the image noticeable less appealing than a dedicated camera’s sensor. And the roll off is not nice at all. It’s something to use in a worse-case-scenario. I would 100% shoot an interview with 1 camera at two different angles to fake a 2-cam set up before I rig up an iphone as a B cam. I think Any “high production” that uses an iphone is doing so more as an experiment.
