It's definitely a cheesy trick! I'm not 100% sure how it works but I think if they perfectly overlap Mario can pick them both up at once. I just sort of keep readjusting their position until it works. Comes in handy in romhacks more often than I'd expect.

@@AnkisethTheMonk Yeah bro, I swear I've tried as hard as I could to set their right position and nothing happened though. So I traveled all the way back just to pick up the button and the key afterwards, otherwise it would demand me too much time. Either way, the most important thing is to get in the secret area.

If you are playing in Snes9x, you could enable slow-motion (I did for the coin-snake puzzle, and set it to x2). I know this comment is a couple of months old, just adding in others run into this issue. Great hack!

Sorry for late reply but in case it helps someone else, pressing L drops a cement block under you to help you get to the munchers.

I struggled on that more than probably anything else in this hack. I think I had the wrong inputs stuck in my head and just got pulled into the death spiral where every death gets more tilting which makes me play worse lol. Still can't reliably do a midair spring jump. Glad you made it through!
