i'd like to add that it's implied that pikmin 2 takes place after pikmin 4 aswell you see, in his log, olimar mentions dreaming about being carried to the onion by the pikmin. but BEFORE that one, there is another dream that basically describes pikmin 2's intro cutscene since his later dream came to fruition, it's safe to assume the other dream is prophetic in nature aswell. coupled with the fact that pikmin 4 offers an alternative take on pikmin 1's story via moss being there, it's safe to assume it's a slot in replacement for 1
