It expelled the German population and renamed the enclave Kaliningrad. In 1990 at the collapse of the USSR, Lithuania gained independence separating Kaliningrad from Russia proper. In 1993 there was a treaty agreement between Russia and Lithuania to allow an access corridor for transit of goods and people between Kaliningrad and Russia. There have been no problems until this year during the Ukrainian conflict when Lithuania threatened to close the transit corridor. It has created a trap where if Russia crosses Lithuania to get to Kaliningrad, Russia will be portrayed as an aggressor...
