How the PURE4D 2.0 facial animation pipeline works
PURE4D 2.0 is DI4D's leading facial animation pipeline for digital doubles.
di4d.com/pure4d/
By combining facial performance data from a HMC (head-mounted camera) with high-fidelity data from a seated 4D capture system, PURE4D produces a scale and quality far beyond the capabilities of traditional animation pipelines.
It’s clean, highly detailed facial animation that doesn’t require complex rigs while remaining adaptable to any studio’s internal setup.
PURE4D has already delivered hours of facial animation for leading triple-A franchises, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 & 3 and F1® 21 & 23.

My head just exploded by this magic. Absolutely amazing. I can't even think about all the possibilities. Good job!!
Interesting project :) It does look like it has aged his skin by about 7 years though . Maybe the lighting is a little bit off so it really brings the natural wrinkles increases to the face more so than normal.
SO incredibly cool! Learned something new today. ♡
I LOVE Neils voice! it's quite unique and soothing 😊❤
ok but the unfolded texture looked creepy xD! Just kidding its an amazing technology!
Mesmerized.
The animation looks fantastic and it's a great showcase for the tech. ...The rendering...I think sometimes less is more. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe too much baked shadow in the texture, too much normal map impact, the shader. The skin looks so detailed, crisp and pronounced it reminded me when 4K TVs came up and everybody wanted more make up. I know, Ten24 can do detail but... holy shit ! :D
Those 4 X movies are going to be great >.>
i'm fine with this for use in video games. But do NOT let this replace real flesh and blood people in film and tv.
This is amazing.
They should replace that frigging annoying Nicole Kidman preview they always show at AMC Theaters and replace it with this!! This is gorgeous 😍
Wow 😮
very interesting... still very much uncanny valley effect when Neil is head-on, since it doesn't have the benefit of those shadows that are present in the profile view that hide a lot of what looks uncanny. and the eyes and slightly nudged-too-far mouth shapes are also elements I noticed, but I'm an animator so perhaps my eye is more critical of stuff like that.
Wow….this is extremely cool. I think it would be interesting to see full movies and games done like this.
We actually used this same pipeline for the faces in Modern Warfare 2 and 3! But there’s so much potential in narrative driven games.
@@DimensionalImaging oh wow, that’s awesome! I can’t wait to see where this kind of animation goes from here.
That is some impressive CGI work, holy moly! Took me some time to convince my brain that it wasn't just live Neil Newbon footage...
I heard BPS TV did this for The Animated Series!
This honestly feels like magic, so wonderful to see
argh
это жесть как смешно, и жесть как круто!!!
Clicked for Neil Newbon
Capture the full range of the actor’s facial movements….. *sees its Neil Newbon* this is gonna take a while. This is all amazing for us laymen like me who got caught in the algorithm somehow to see how this all works.
I'm a simple person: I see Neil Newbon I click.
Voice acting was a 100% but the facial animation was a bit...stiff an uncanny. There is some work to be done with the technology.
It's fascinating to see how this all works. I could watch this all day.
I have no idea what was that, I click as I see Neil lol
The level of details and the fluidity of the movements are scary - in a good way. The only thing that gives away that's CGI is the eyeballs when they're in close-up and in full light
Dear lord, imagine this technology for the next Larian games. I'm already drooling and my PC is already overheating.
Whenever Neil is in CG form, I still always see Kamski in him. Imagine a DBH2 with this level of detail for Kamski now.
i know him from bg3, and when i realised he’s also kamski my mind was blown lmao
This is really well made, but I don't understand people saying they couldn't tell it was cgi, considering it still gives uncanny valley vibes lol
what I imagine Kamski would be getting up to before creating Cyberlife 👀
Beautifully done! It took a moment to notice the CG, but it's still always the eyes that give it away first. But Holy Heckin Holly has technology advanced enough to do this and so wonderfully realistically, too. Between the motion capture studios and Boston Dynamics, I'm cautiously optimistic about the future.
It's pretty cool, but it still LOOKS CG, even if the mocap is pretty damn good. Reminds me of Death Stranding, in a way.
Abracadaver!
Took this 30-something's brain a second to realize this isn't Neil.... nicely done because the uncanny valley distortion wasn't bad at all for me! (It's subjective for everyone, just wanted to share my experience) Love technology
Oh my-! It's incredible! Congratulations to the team for their work. Every part of the video is so flawless, from the moment Neil is CGI to the moment the set is shown, it's so awesome! Neil's acting and speaking are brought out perfectly thanks to technology! Also, excellent casting! Another level has been unlocked with this video! Good job! 👏
i see Neil and i immediately i get fluster 🙈❤
I honestly didn’t know it was a motion capture animation until I saw the comments on the actual animation video of this. It’s pretty good.
This level of detail both fascinates and terrifies me. But mostly fascinates. I think.
wow
I didn’t even realise it was motion caption until I saw the comments it’s done so well
It took me 5 whole minutes to realize this is an animation and not real (I WAS SO CONFUSED)
That was so realistic. Like I almost thought it was actually him until I realized it was CGI. My goodness how far we have come with technology these days that it can almost fool the human eye.
This is beautiful. Such a lovely tribute to the acting industry and how important actors are. As someone who wants to become a professional actor, it feels so gratifying to see it all represented like this, and the casting for this is perfect. Neil is an absolute treasure. 🥰
We are glad we could help inspire you! Acting is central to everything we do.
This reminded me deeply of the movie The Congress. Which is not exactly a good thing 😬
so glad Neil was a part of this project! he's very suited for it.
So freaking cool <3
Why haven’t more people seen this, this is fucking incredible ❤️❤️
Let’s share it far and wide! 💪
@@DimensionalImaging Will do!!
I feel disrespectful watching this on the toilet now
This is incredible! Can't wait to see what the future holds.
