8/10/24. Southall 5.30 race Horse: Hostelry No. 3 Draw. 8 Colours. Orange & Green Jockey: J P Sullivan This is the most fixed horse race that I've 'ever' seen, the horse & jockey were in a really good position to win this race, but the jockey decided to do nothing, except try to prevent it from advancing by bouncing up & down on it's back when the horse was doing nothing wrong. Opened up at 8/1...

A rare interview with the witty (and slightly tipsy) Margaret Powell, this carries on from the Angela Baddeley interview.
Angela Baddeley interview on The Russell Harty Show

A rare interview with Angela.
She's pretty. "Rose Buck"
Such a refined lady being interviewed by the complete opposite!
He was a school teacher at a private school. He was a friend, and the teacher of Richard Whiteley, I can only assume that he was responsible for getting him on tv.
Harty was an awful interviewer! I’m surprised Baddeley agreed to go on his show.
💜💫
Golly! Angie spoke a bit like Johnny Rotten - she was from a Westham white-bread family, though. What a great actress in one of the best TV creations ever to come out of Britain.
Harty was known for his coyly staged rudeness, but he comes across today as merely insufferable and uncouth.
He was an ex school teacher at a boarding school. Basically, just some guy off the street, nowhere near the class of Michael Parkinson.
The hopeless and idiotic Harty .
Russell give up interviewing your crap at it
Amazing how gentle and unshouty this is.
Lovely Lady! ❤
Awful interview! Angela Baddeley deserved better....
He asks weird questions. It’s awkward to ask yes and no questions in an interview.
What a wonderful person.... I loved watching her. Thank you for sharing this interview.....
I'm just reading her books. They're very entertaining and great fun. It's nice to have the chance to see her on TV.

I’ve just finished her first book, commenting here in nov 2024. I enjoyed the book very much, and it is so nice to see Margaret. Many laugh out loud moments in the book. Were the follow-up books just as great as the first?
@vintageprue8728 I enjoyed all the books, but I found the third one particularly entertaining.
@@peppercat8188 thank you so much, I appreciate your reply. Margaret is a very entertaining witty writer, she seemed like a lot of fun.
Thank you for uploading this interview. Angela Baddeley owned the role of Mrs. Bridges.❤She is charming off-screen too.😊 Mrs Pattmore on Downton Abbey appears to follow the character style introduced on Upstairs Downstairs by Angela Baddeley. I enjoyed watching both series. ❤😊
Charming and delighted woman and a wonderful actress. Give me those times any day over today's. 🙏 ❤
Upstairs Downstairs was the greatest thing ever seen on television.
I agree.i like Downton abbey a bit but Upstairs Downstairs is a much better drama.the characters complimented each other so well.the episode when the king comes for dinner is marvellous .I often watch it.
Ms Baddeley was, in reality, far more 'Upstairs' than 'Downstairs'. If memory serves, in one interview Angela Baddeley recounted that she based 'Mrs Bridges' on a cook employed by her own family.
Dreadful, pointless questions. She was very gracious.
Watching the series on prime atm
What a lovely lady and so interesting why didnt she do more interviews shes very relaxed and funny too god bless her always RIP Angela 😢
Gone to Glory 🌈 R.I.P 🕊 and Sorely Missed by Many ❤💕
Russell was a total bore.
Harty is a tosser.
Ruby my girl your making me all behind like a donkeys tail.😀
She was delightful.
Harty is not a stellar interviewer. He did not bring out the best in Angela. Very much a missed opportunity. Did he wing most of these interviews? An insult to her talent.
What a wonderful lady! Xxxx
What a very pretty lady!!!!
Upstairs Downstairs one of the best dramas ever made for British TV.
Asking Ms Baddeley whether she was really a good cook, then enquiring whether the highly experienced actress might go to work as a waitress when 'Upstairs, Downstairs' ended. What impertinence from Mr Harty. I never enjoyed his interviews; I was constantly on edge, waiting for yet another of his faux pas.
Agree. His interviews were rather awkward viewing to me. I could never relax when watching them as he always seemed so aloof to the person he was interviewing. I wondered if it might have just been an erroneous assumption on my part. Interesting to read that other people had a similar reaction.
I often wondered if Mrs Bridges character wore padding. Her arms seemed very slender by comparison. 🥰
In the interview, she admits to padding!
Mrs Bridges n Ruby were my favourite part of upstairs downstairs. Wouldn't watch an episode if they wernt in it.
I remember laughing once at Mrs Bridges attempting to cut pastry to the side of the pie dish and she was hacking at it like she was clearing a path through the jungle 😅
This is how interviews of ALL women used to be no matter what the profession. All about their bodies and other insane things.
She is so delightfully cheeky and clever. I enjoyed her books so much. I wish more of her books were easier to come by

she was a kid in the 20's?? she was born in 1904.
My God what a treat - never heard her in an interview.
Seems a lovely lady.
Enjoyed her book
How she sparkles! But what a dull fool of an interviewer.
An absolute twit and embarrassment
Waiting for this interviewer to ask an intelligent and dignified question to this wonderful actress. I don't think it's going to happen.
I was just thinking the same. Never really watched Russell Harty, but he was awful!
He had a certain style which worked for his viewers; it was a playful, insincere, cheeky attitude. Not every interview should or can follow the same rules! We're all very different and cannot be the same! Tv doesn't cater for individual tastes.
She is so charming. A lovely thing it is to see her as herself. Harty was a ghastly interviewer. The worst we had in this country. Until Clive Anderson.
@@Omnicient. Maybe one has to be Brittish to appreciate his approach, but then again Brits certainly do not have the market cornered on rudeness. Either way, I found it tasteless personally.
Again another inflexible mind set. For anyone who is flexible I guide you to the mighty Clive Anderson's interview with Dame Jeffrey Archer which can be seen on youtube. Now for the inflexible minds reading this the 'dame' is a spot of humour and I have had to explain what it is!
Russel Harty bless him ,but he is a boring interviewer he lacked drive .but no disrespect to him.
My grandma watched this series .she lived through two world wars so alot of what happened in the series like politics, war, fashions, poverty, class divide, and when the Titanic sank she told me a story that her family all cried sat around the table reading the news.she also made peg dolls for the wounded soldiers coming back from France her school hall was a hospital . I miss her so so much.i imagined her watching this series reminiscing her life living with her mum and dad in Blackpool at that time.
Brilliant actor "interviewed" by an intolerable twit.
Loved Angela Baddeley watching the re runs of Upstairs Downstairs great Actress♥️
Looks so so much younger looking than her character in upstairs vey regal dressed lovely looking lady 👏❤ always enjoyed her art and acting
Such a lovely person and I had no idea that Hermione was her sister. A sad loss I must say.
Harty was a dreadful interviewer and this last deserved to much more.
These wonderful characters that were such a massive part of my teens - we watched this every week. Memories of a tiny when TV was truly gold I was privileged to live through that period
Yes, I think I feel the same....just been watching an episode, which led to this interview, and it's making me feel quite nostalgic 📺
I liked Mrs Bridges with Ruby and ending up her and Hudson Adopting her and Ruby not appreciative of their help. Mrs Bridges and Hudson were both very kind and that was to all the 165 household. Both Great Characters and so well written.🇬🇧🎂🥮🍰🍨
Lovely memories and simpler times
@@janeokeeffe5297 absolutely I miss them a lot
@@ianpeddle6818 me too
Lovely Lady, her sister was Hermione Baddely, mrs cratchit in a christmas carol
